In this episode, I rewired the old Macgregor's guts with a new panel. I also added a 50w solar panel to the stern rail that I created in my last video. It provides enough energy to keep the battery topped up on the coastal cruising we plan on doing. I also show how to sand down the old rusty parts of stainless railing, though there are about a million ways to get that done.
As promised, here are the links to all the products I used.

Thanks for documenting your upgrades. I just got a 26S which needs most of the same repairs. I even have the same 8Hp Nissan. Seeing your videos convinces me that I can do it!

Absolutely! I had zero experience with boats and it's definitely a learning experience, but it's very doable with some motivation and youtube! Good luck and welcome to the club!

Excellent video! My 26d also needs rewiring and new panels. Will be adding LED lights as well. Thank you.

Thanks for making this! I just bought a 1991 Mac26, first sailboat, fixing it up now and should be ready to hit the water in a week or so! I appreciate the inspiration, you guys make it look so fun :D !!

It is a ton of fun! Even working on the boat is a treat to me. Glad to hear you're a Mac owner, too! They're so much fun and you'll learn to sail so quickly. Congrats and glad you enjoy the show!

I installef a thin film 50W just forward of the mast. Simply tied with paracord to existing fittings. Drilled a pass through SAE plug near the mast. I suggest people get a water rated charge controller with no display. Measure things with multimeter if you're curious.

Nice work. I just completed bottom and hull painting on my 92 26 s. I have done some of the wiring for mine. It a pain running them. How do plan to hide them? I ran most of mine in the corner of the bathroom from the bilge to upper part.

I ran most of the wiring up in little area between hull and deck and used existing wiring to keep it simple. The new wiring I'll try and hide in crevices here and there, but we shall see if I add anything besides some colorful lights for the v-berth

PS. I am a big IT nut and cancer survivor. Illness will pass. Sailing should be your escape from all of that!

Hey Ryan! Glad to hear another IT guy loves sailing and congrats on being cancer free! The 26d is too easy, honestly. I love it. We have so many plans for big trips. Being only a few dozen miles from the Bahamas is tempting, but we're going to gunk in the keys a few times first. Unfortunately my sister in law didn't win her battle. She passed a few weeks ago, right after we made the last video. Stage 4 pancreatic cancer isn't a good diagnosis and she lasted 10 months. That being said, my wife finds zen in sailing and we agree- the ocean is an escape from those tribulations. Hopefully you'll see spring soon!

Does the Mac 26 D also stay afloat if filled with water like the model M?
