Make sure he has multiple quotes from different companies before installing. Going solar is great, dont get me wrong. I have had issues dealing with Pink Energy aka Power Home Solar.
Fantastic review! Thank you for taking the time to put this together. I just went through a very similar install with 25 panels as well and a Generac inverter, but I also got a full battery cabinet with mine (6 battery modules) since my power company does not currently offer paying me for any overproduction being put back on the grid. If you run the system in "Self Supply" mode, the inverter will actually use the power from the batteries to supply your main power feed from your inverter if the panels are not producing enough. Check the user manual for this operating mode and you should see this as well. Just wanted to advise in the event you may want to reconsider the battery option for storing your overproduction power if your power company does not want to pay you as much as you would get by storing it locally and using it instead of pulling from the grid. Hope you have been enjoying your system and that it provides you many years of not having to pay the power company ;)
Appreciate your video... I am in No Virginia and I used Power Home Solar for my initial install on 4/2018 and they were great.... as you stated, quick install, did everything regarding permits, inspections etc. my system is bi-directional and do back-feed to the utility when my panels are producing more than I am using. I did have the inverter go out after a year and Power Home was out within a week and replaced it, and it has been working great ever since. Over time I felt my system was probably under-sized for my house and contacted Power Home to have additional panels installed... Again, great on architectural drawings, permits and all associated paperwork, then nothing.... When I made inquiries to an installation date, the people I was talking with didn't seem to know what was going on... This was the first time I came into contact with Pink Energy... Not sure if they are a subsidiary, installer group, whatever... but I started my additional panel install project in February 2022 and at the end of July 2022, they still have not come out to complete that install... After chasing them back a forth, I finally got an install date of the end of August 2022 to have 9 additional panels installed... Pink Energy and by association Power Home Solar have lost this sale... as of today I am cancelling my addition panel project... the whole point of starting in February as I did was to get the additional panels installed and take advantage of our summer months... In No Virginia, we don't have the endless summer you all have in the West... we are now, for us, into daily thunderstorm season, and I feel because of their delays, I have missed out on the prime solar generating season... and as you stated, the price of panels is coming down... I'll wait a while and perhaps try again later... Good luck with your install I have just came onto your channel and haven't had an opportunity to watch any of your other videos.... have you looked into a SENSE monitor for the electrical system of your home... if not, you will find it interesting.
Thank u for watching. I have had someone else tell me about sense monitoring too. When I add more panels, I will look into other installers as well before making a decision.
We had radiant heat barrier in our house in Massachusetts. It actually made our second story really hot in the summer and also made the house feel stuffy. We had it removed and added additional blown insulation. I dont have any data, but the house felt like it could breathe. The 2nd story was cooler in the summer. Thank you for watching!
All good points. Especially about Mead Lake. It is now below the 1000ft mark since you posted this video. I have not look at the updated stats for the great plains watershed in years. But it was down 50ft at the time. No doubt this has a direct relationship to the Colorado River and Mead Lake. There are other Solar Companies out there. I recommend doing ones homework before making any costly hasty decisions.
We were looking at solar panels as an option until we spoke with four individuals throughout the US that have had them for over a year. Even though they were told they'd have optimal coverage almost no power is produced and now paying electric bill plus insane expensive systems. I've yet to talk to anyone that doesn't feel they were duped.
Solar is not for everyone as everyones house is not a good candidate. I still believe solar is a great source of alternative energy. I do suggest shopping other companies though. I have had many issues with my installation. I have produced over 8 megawatts so far with my system. Remember that the roof of the front of my house is south facing. South facing roofs are best in the northern midwest. I also suggest folks to do thier homework. Know thier energy needs. Dont let a sales person undersize the system. You wont see good results. I suggest going for more than your current needs plus some. This is especially true if you plan to get an electric vehicle or your planning to grow your family. Good luck with your search and thanks for watching.
Thank you for the helpful video, Jason. I am considering the purchase of solar panels from PowerHome Solar and your video was helpful to me in identifying some potential problems. Very useful!
Don't DO IT! PLZ I have had panels from them for the last year they were terrible spent $60k/m not even savings $20/m and they're so under staffed I keep getting the run around look up reviews bbb ....

I spent time learning about how everything works. Lots of videos, spec sheets, and manuals. Its a big investment and want to know how it works. Thanks for watching. If you have questions let me know.
I had PowerHome Solar put in my system last year. They do great work but you have to check behind them because their engineers will take shortcuts. I will have to upgrade my panels because they don't make enough power to offset my energy bill. I was supposed to get 32 Silfab 330w but the inspector said they could only put 25 panels on the roof, so they should have used the Silfab 370w panels. Other than that I would have no problem recommending them. They gave me a really good deal when I upgraded to a full Generac Battery Cabinet ( 6 modules). So I'm a fan of PowerHome Solar. I'm in DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
I just had a pv link failure on one of my arrays. Powerhome said that this was due a recent upgrade and will need to replace. So, one of my series of panels are not sending energy to the house/ grid. Have you experienced this too? Thanks for watching!

I had solar installed in NC by a different installer. I installed 7.4kw for less than $23,000 pre rebates. The key item you share is the payback period. In my case my estimate was 10 years. Anymore than that and it is not likely to make economic sense. Solar installers can over charge dramatically as I found through my shopping. Anything over $3.50 per watt for solar only is over priced. Thank you for sharing your experience! Great content
@@pedrogarces6876 Ahh. I was hoping you’d be closer to me. I’m closer to the coast and haven’t been able to find any installer anywhere remotely close to me with decent reviews.
@@HiThere619 these guys work in the coast. Though, there is traveling time. They take pride in their work and made sure my system was operational. They can make it happen as their crews live across the Carolinas. I would stay away from the other players as they take forever and quality is sub par. Take a look at premium panels with at least 20 year warranty. Emphase or Solaredge are the leaders in the industry and have the best warranty / tech. I’d also look into panel manufacturers like SunPower, LG and Solaria. They have the best production by square foot.
This seems to be the general consensus of PHS. Expedite install so they can get paid by the bank but stall out just before getting the meter swapped and finalizing the system.

I just bought into the power home solar system. I wanted a battery backup instead of a generator. Installation was fast and good. The installers were great. The concierge never contacted me till I sent emails to them. When I tried to contacted them I was put on hold and most of the time I hung up after 25 to 30 min. That is not near as bad as the next thing. I am new to solar but I was told I would get a 26 percent $14,000.00 (something) dollar energy tax credit to pay down my $50000.00 my system and lower my monthly payments. Well that's not true in Indiana if your retired. Your social security is not taxable. You need to have earned more than the energy tax credit to get that amount returned my tax man told me. Which I didn't. I contacted my sales man. He acted kinda surprised. The system works like it is advertised It's my fault for not doing my home work. So If you live in Indiana and your retired with no taxable income don't fall for this. Unless you are young and have a large income.
@@williamofrights1471 it'll go back to what it was supposed to be, yeah. They give you a discounted price the first 18 months so even if you don't qualify for the credit you still get a break the first year and a half
I wanted to give my honest review and feedback. I hope they listen. The better the experience for others, the more others may go solar too. As always, appreciate the support!
Just now found you. Because I'm looking into solar panel power. Thanks for this. You are very well spoken and understandable. Well laid out video. Honest review that I needed tonight. 52k is a lot. How do the payments work? So I'll wait to see when your projected payoff date is?
Hopefully you went with another installer and without Generac equipment. I am having so many issues since Feb this year. Pink Energy just went out of business too. Just posted an update about it. Thanks for watching!
I did go with the battery I'll let you know how it goes once done I live in the middle no where in our farm house so we lose power alot an went with the battery mainly to run my fridge an to keep heat going in the winter or least ac in the kids rooms
You may want to look at a whole home back up generator at 5k to 7k to install. Can run off of fuel, natural gas, or propane. This would power your whole house for less than that really high priced battery back up that only backs up three things for a limited amount of time. You still have time to change your mind. if they haven't installed the system yet or designed it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for making this video. Am considering going to solar but trying to decide. Was looking at Tesla also because they have those solar roofs but also looking at PHS since they keep having their ads on youtube. Also just subbed to this channel. Love DIY stuff.
We need help, we are still paying our electric full price and paying solar . We keep calling solar they say it works but can’t or won’t answer why we are still paying full bill.
You need to get net metering. I went ahead and called my electric company myself as they (powerhome) seemed to be dragging their feet. My electric company had me net metering in less than a week. Right now your panels are able to produce what you are using at the time. Once your meter is set up right, you can produce as much as your system will allow. All of your excess power you can then use when the sun goes down. Then the remaining power you need comes from the grid. Are you able to see what you are able to produce using the app? My last bill I only got billed $40 for usage and another $40 for delivery charges. Cant do anything about the delivery charges but the usage was way down because my system created so much energy even during these short days. Let me know if this helps. Reach out if you need more help.
Power Home Solar changed its name to Pink Energy and they just closed their doors. I am trying to figure out what to do. Mine are down due to a lightning strike. I am paying full electric bill plus the loan on solar panels.
I bought power home solar But my debit and the saving is a joke my bill example was $ 500 can you explain where was the savings??? I not recommend this solar panel at all when you call nobody give you an explanation
Thanks - I’m about to meet a POWERHOME Solar sales representative this week. Did you also consider other solar companies? My home is about 2,400 sqft w/9ft ceilings (one story) &16 years old. I estimate that we spend $3,000 per year for electricity. Is your home a lot larger?
My house is about 5600 sq ft. My 25 panels produce between 33 and 55 kwh per day in it current configuration. I have found with my AC running a lot this summer that this produces only about half of my daily power. I did not have the luxury of having the previous 12 months of electric bills to understand how much the house used. I would also shop around for solar. There are many companies offering different incentives.
@@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD During the last 12 months I’ve used 25,248 kwhrs at a cost of $2,907. Based on your information I’m thinking it would take too long to recover the investment. Am I missing something? Thanks again for your video and information.

Nice review. I assume they subcontract the installers. I will be using someone else. A no show means about 2k in income loss for missing a day of work. Unacceptable. But thank you for the review.
@@darlisadebose9208 and they charge 5 times the amount for these panels and their customer service is HORRIBLE... it took them over nine months to get ours installed and up and running. Their installers were all horrible as well and very unprofessional. Our system produces as of now but not near to what they told us it would. September will be a year so we will access it at that time but I'm sure we will need more panels to bring us close to what they said it would produce.
He can never see 12 kwh from the 25 panels. they are 370w panels x 25 = 9,250 +/- kwh. And since it's DC to AC conversion with a inverter is not 100% efficient at best with that inverter that claim to be 97% he can get around 9000 kwh of actual power going to his home.
This what I'm afraid of I just signed all paper work there supposed be pulling permits for me I live in gaston indiana an afraid they sales person lied to me about power savings ,
Look at your energy bill. You need to see what your average daily usage is. with 25 panels I have been able to produce up to 56kwh on a good day. That may sound good, but in the summer my house consumes at 100kwh 125kwh per day. I would say that I am covering half my expenses during the summer months with my panels. I have had days recently where my panels over produced my usage but those were on cooler days in September. I am finally net metered as of 8/5/2021. This next bill will be my first with the entire bill net metered. You also need to stay on top of the powerhome solar. After the panels are up, they seemed to drag their feet. I had to schedule my net metering with my utility company on my own because they were taking too long. Good luck with the install. I still feel like its worth it in the end. Appreciate you watching and please reach out if you need anything!
9.25 kw system. Since install I have produced about 5.5 megawatts. For my size house I need more panels to completely offset my electric bill. Thanks for watching!
I've been running my 3rd battery I've had it maybe a year I still have nothing my battery is down it don't hold energy I would like to file report as the rest of you in Ohio
Solar systems are not worth it until its regulated and rip off companies are held accountable. I have had my solar installed since late 2021. finally got it activated around Feb 2022. my electric usage immediately went up when the new meter was installed. Bills have not decreased since system activation and there has been zero benefits to the 60K system I have installed on my home.
Are you net metering? My bills have gone down. With moderate temps right now, my bill is zero. Is there something wrong with your system? I had bad pv links. Still do on 6 panels.
@@calvinreichelderfer7989 I still should have shopped around before going with this company. I suggest going with another company with issues I have had.
Yes. At the time the fed rate was almost 0 and the rate was comparable to other home improvement loans at that time. I am sure they have gone up making the buy back longer. Shop around with other solar companies for the best deal. Thanks for watching.
Power home solar/ pink energy sucks I would never use them to put a system in if you are looking. I had them start mine in Jan of 2022 they didn't get it completed untill June of 2022. Generac has/had a pv link problem and pink energy can't get here untill october
I just took $57k and divided it into 120, and that figures out to $475/month if you don't take into account the interest for financing this. The only way I can see something like this paying for itself, is if it actually generates more electricity than you consume. I know that is the usual sales pitch, but realistically; I don't see that happening without you having to live like a 3rd world hermit. Is there something I'm missing? I think the technology is interesting, but I don't see the benefit here.
I recently looked at a home in Stockbridge, Michigan and it had a system that had a loan on it for 70,000.00 that would need to be transferred if we purchased the home. Sure it was a MASSIVE system 48 panels if memory serves. They pit 20k down on the solar system so 50k was still owed.. Payment was 365 dollars a month.
@@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD we passed. House was a 5 and the 60 x 80 steel n concrete pole barn was a 10. Wife said no. Lol. I think it was a grow operation that never got off the ground because none of the solar panel energy production went to the house. It was an impressive set up.
How long until you got your bi-directional meter? The interconnection agreement should be step 1. You gave $52,000 for 9250W of solar? That should generate 11,000kWhs annually IF it was wired efficiently. A kWh in my area right now is $0.14kWh 11,000 x $.14 =$1540 a year. Consider a 3% increase in kWh rates per year you will have saved $52,000 between year 24 and 25. Then consider the utility customer service charge. $13 where I live. I hope you pay far more than my $.14 a kWh or this will never pay off. Warn your friends and family. More than $2.9/W is absolute robbery. I hope my figures above can be improved after accounting for the tax credit? That would make your net investment 38,480. Making your pay-off closer to 20 years. Hopefully you have a 25yr parts and labor warranty. Grid-tie inverters are good for 10. Sorry to unload this on you but I hate seeing solar scams. Solar is awesome but deals like that make it not so awesome.
I had to reach out to my energy company myself to get the bidirectional meter. I felt like Powerhome aka Pink Energy now, was not moving fast enough for me. Installed panels beginning of July, net metering by Aug 5th. I do have the 25 yr warranty. All of my snap links had to be replaced as Generac had defective ones. Energy prices are going up faster. My panels cover all or 90% of my electric at the moment. If I get an electric vehicle, I will need more panels for sure and another inverter. I do recommend people shop around. I did not get the best deal or the best company. Thanks for watching!
@@JasonWhitakerTheDIYDAD thanks for the reply. Again, sorry to unload on you I just get so angry when I see stories like this. I hope things get better for solar customers as a whole. It’s a big investment and folks do it with the intention of saving money and helping cut carbon emissions for a better future. The treatment you were dealt is uncalled for. I wish you all the best and years of maintenance free savings.
It’s funny that you think you are going to have a payback on a $52,000 dollar solar system. The solar company had a payday. You spent a pile of money that you didn’t need to spend. Now you wonder when you will have a payback? Not before you bought it but now you wonder because you still don’t know you have been had.
