The pink wheel is a sleeve nut (opposite hand threads on two ends).
Rotate the pink wheel to adjust the tilt angle A of the blue solar panel.
In this video, A is equal to 25 to 50 degrees.
The adjustment is necessary because the sun's orbit in the sky changes with the seasons.

Elegant way of doing this. Two thoughts came up: - Would be lovely to find a way to fold it flat. - Wondering how to incorporate a simple rotational mechanism to follow the sun course during the day.

another idea is to use a hydraulic piston, one of the simple dumb ones they use on furniture or the boot of a car, and use a cable to pull the panel back against that piston. that's still only one axis but it's convenient as you can extend the cable a couple metres in a long cable housing and operate remotely with a lever or something

Thank you for showing my omission. One way to fix that is to make the nut longer at both ends with threadless segments.

@@thang010146 one inspiration for this might be the james webb space telescope's fine and rough mirror positioning mechanism that also only uses a single motor: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5MxH1sfJLBQ.html imagine a servo with a 1000 turns to operate both axes. the first 300 only tilts the panel from almost vertical to 25° (sunrise) the following 400 revolutions would only rotate the panel from east to west (all of the day) and the last 300 would again only tilt the panel back to now westward facing almost vertical to capture the last bit of light at sunset. then the panel has the whole night or even the morning to somehow get back to a morning position

Can you design a solar panel roof for a motorhome? 3 beds of solar panel where the 2 beds underneath slide out when the van is stationary, and they can act as an awning, with at least a higher tolerance for wind.
