I bought a Copper-Flo model and used it for 24 hours. Chlorine level was at the low end of the OK meter. The pool has never been more clear or more algae free. I was having problems with my CYA acid levels because of the pucks. I drained and refilled and switched to liquid. I had to add a half bottle of liquid chlorine every two days. It was awful. Now? We'll see but based on my results so far? AMAZING. I wish I had this 20 years ago. I can't say enough about it.

Try using that without adding any chlorine to the pool. I heard that chlorine reacts badly to Copper and that that solar ionizer you have there can take care of preventing algae without chlorine.

Hello! My pool is green right now due to low chemicals and all of the rain we’ve been getting in Jersey. I purchased the ionizer, it’ll be here later today. Should I shock with green to blue before putting in the ionizer?
@CoachHelder
@CoachHelder Месяц назад
Hello, I'm in jersey too! Luckily, my pool is still clear, I just had to get a bunch of debris out after the storm. But it's pouring right now, and I'm wondering if we will get hit again. My advice is to get the pool chemical levels as ideal as you can. The ionizer won't work well unless the levels are on par. The manufacturer states that you should have a relatively clear pool before you introduce the ionizer. It is great for maintaining a clear pool, once it is clear, but not made to turn a green pool clear. Once you get the right copper level, be sure to take the ionizer out of the pool so that your copper level does not get too high. Good luck and stay, Jersey Strong! 💪

@CoachHelder
@CoachHelder Месяц назад
Wow, sorry to hear that. Algae blooms are far too common in our area especially with the recent storms. I'd suggest algaecide (get the good stuff that is a bit pricier) and shocking the pool to try and get it under control. It may seem overwhelming but in a couple of days post treatment, you will have a clear pool once again. Good luck!

Once you have the proper copper reading the ionizer comes out of the pool. Too high of a copper reading can be bad for your pool and cause health issues.
@powerlocks
@powerlocks 3 года назад
So it puts copper in the pool steadily? Which means you dont have to keep your chlorine levels around a 3.5ppm. Algaecide has copper in it too. But instead of putting algaecide in, you just keep this in there instead. I wonder, after a year of using it, when you got your pool water tested. What were your copper levels? Also have you had any staining, from the copper sticking to the walls or floor?
@CoachHelder

All chlorine does is ionize algae. That’s what Algaecides do too. Makes sense that it works but idk why u can’t just use a floater and some tabs.... or say just have proper water chemistry
@CoachHelder
@CoachHelder 3 года назад
Hello Will and thanks for taking the time to comment. Floating tabs never did a thing for my Algae problems that I dealt with in the past. My levels would be great then after a rain storm... The algae always began to set in. I'm no expert in this subject matter but once I started using this ionizer, I haven't come close to even seeing a hint of algae in my pool. Keep in mind that what works well for some, may be a bad idea for others. That is why we try and share our experiences on here and let the viewer decide what works best for their needs. -Hg

I have used a Flotron for 3 years. It kept my water crystal clear but it RUINED my marcite because of all the copper deposits. Just spent 6000.00 for a new marcite job. The copper turns the marcite BLACK. I will never use another one.
@CoachHelder
@CoachHelder 4 года назад
Thanks for the heads up, Roger. So far so good on my pool. It is only my second year with the ionizer and it has really worked out well for me. Sorry that you had that issue with the marcite. I opened up my pool a couple of weeks back, I'm in NJ. This was the first year that I didn't use algaecide while opening the pool. I had some in reserve but I wanted to see if the ionizer could handle the job alone. My pool is crystal clear, it did take a couple of extra days, but it did the job. Once again, I was impressed. I will keep a close eye on the situation and report back if I begin to see any negative effects. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with us; it's appreciated. -Hg

Sorry Coach you wasted your money and sadly many others on here will too.. I used the piece of copper pipe in the skimmer method many years ago and yes it works, no electricity needed, never any algae at all. However about 10 years ago I discovered Copper Sulfate and started using it. I have a 13k pool and use 1 tablespoon diluted a month. Never ever have I had any Algae since. No green hair, no pool stains on my gunite pool here in Florida. Stop listening to these people who don't have a clue, maybe they work for pool companies or don't even have a pool. So may gimmicks when this is the easiest cost effective solution out there.. Look at the ingredients of most pool Algaecides 5-7% Copper Sulfate. When you buy Copper Sulfate small crystals (Amazon, eBay) and dissolve it, it is 20% concentrate so don't think 1 tablespoon a month is to little, adjust if your pool is larger. That is all you need and you'll NEVER have Algae again. The key is Don't over do it thinking more is better, it's not. It does reduce the amount of Chlorine you use but not by a significant amount. Do the research, stop wasting your money.
@CoachHelder

Thanks for sharing. To be honest, I do a great deal of research. Not sure why you thought that I did not do my DD. For less than $100, I throw a device into my pool. I leave it in a week, more or less, check my copper reading and if it's good to go... I take it out. I am then done for the season. That has been my SOP for 6 years now, dividing that (sub $100 investment) into 6 and counting... I'm pretty happy with my research, recommendations to subscibers, and my initial investment. So, you are happy with what you do and I am too. Enjoy your day, Florida is awesome and Cheers my friend. 🍻

Hello 21kidsanddogs, I don't have a steady routine besides taking a daily reading of the levels to see what is needed. I start the season getting the pool to the correct chemical readings. I then add the ionizer until I get to the desired copper reading with the included test kit. Once that is achieved I take the ionizer out so that my copper reading doesn't get too high. From there, I just add the chlorine tabs to the skimmer as needed and continue to monitor the other readings and adjust from there. I hope that helps you. Good luck, -Hg

Have a great day! -Hg

About 2x per season, depending on the oxidation of the copper rod. -Hg

Quick question, I bought very similar to yours. But having run on the first day, for approx 6 hrs, i tested the water and the copper level immediately shot up to 0.7ppm. the manual does said if more than .9 ppm take the unit off from the pool. A lot site also recommend not to have more than 1 ppm before it does more harm to your pool than good. Do you actually just leave yours floating on the pool the whole day every day or just few hours each day? I'm just concern leaving all day, because even just 6 hrs it shot up from 0 to .7ppm. I'm scared if I leave it every day all day it will increase to 1 or even more.

Hello Adi, there are a few models in the market and they aren't all the same. Just a heads up, I found out the hard way once I started getting questions on here about the other ionizers. The manufacturer of this one states that we should maintain a .4. Once I get to that reading, with all the other chemical levels on par, I then remove the ionizer from my pool. Once it gets below .4, I throw the ionizer back in. I have learned a lot over the past 2 years. The first year, I left the ionizer in all season. As you can imagine, my reading was closer to a 1! Now, even in the winter months of NJ, my pool is still blue and clear. Frozen, but blue! 😁 I hope that helps. -Hg

@@CoachHelder @Coach Helder hmmm is that mean if I just leave all day every day it will still stay at 1 ppm? I'm just worried if I leave it all day it will blow up to more than 1 ppm. My pool size is only about 45000l size.

Hello Adi, I'm certainly not an expert in anything pool related. I can only share my experience with this ionizer model and my pool, thus far. Let me know what you decide to do and how it works out for you. -Hg

Does it remove existing algae?

Hello Guapo, When I put the ionizer in the pool, it was recommended that the pool be clear and all levels up to par. I never tested it with existing algae. All that I can say is that I didn't have any algae since using the ionizer; both last year and so far, this year. I hope that helps. -Hg
