😱THANK YOU, I just found your channel & will be looking at what all you have going on stuff like this I'm working on a DOUBLE pond that I'm needing a solar pump for & you happen to be the 1st 1 I hit.
Yea of couse! Glad I could help, they definitely worked better than I expected. I'm gonna make some fountains with these and then find out how to get a bigger one. Maybe one with a battery pack so it runs overnight?
Excellent video! Thank you for your thorough review of the solar water pumps. I'm investigating making my own hummingbird bath and your video went a long way to helping me get started. Liked and subscribed😊
Thank you so much for demonstrating this suff for a total beginner in the browsing n ideas stage. I want to do a bird bath. I just bought the $15 one from the list in your video notes so you get the deserved sales cred.
Great Video! You've sold me on the solar pump. My question is can I rig it up to store the solar power into some type of battery bank to run the pump from so that it runs through the night off of the battery. If so, how many panels would I need?
I have not found a way to rig one up to a battery and the ones that come with battery storage are very expensive. I have not used them. Wish I could help.
From my experience, the best solar pumps are the cheaper ones with their solar panels connected by wire. No batteries, but just works when it is daylight.
I have had both, the floating type and the detached solar panel type. The detached panel is the better choice in real world usage. The floating ones get water in the panel eventually and cloud over and stop working. Also if you have any shade, the detached panel can be placed away in areas with sun.
You are such a good Dad!! Hazel is HELPING and you just let her do her thing. wonderful to see her enjoying working. as she gets older, she will be truely helping you for real
I use the first non movible pump and the solar panel shown in this video to irrigate my garden beds... in good sunny days feeds all my 4 /4x6 and 2 / 2x8 raised beds... no more hoses or water cans...I set them in super slow dripping from sun to sunset..which here in the NE PA its like 6 hrs of full sun. I
FYI the floating solar bird bath has to be cleaned often if you have hard water or messy bird water or it will not get enough sunshine to work very well.
Also some sort of solar bank that stores up energy for later use. I believe the lady in the video said they were at places like Best Buy and can be charged indoors to used outside for hours.
I have 2 different solar panels that have the so called battery backup so that they will still run if it got cloudy and no they do not run when a cloud goes by or if a shadow covered it for a moment. I do enjoy making my solar fountains as I have no electric in my backyard or on back of house. Unless I want to run a looong extension cord from the garage and I’m not going to do that. So I just have to settle for the solar ones and be content with them not running constantly.
It's amazing how much water these little pumps will move my brother used to cruise the alleys one day he found a new decorative fountain turned out it was damaged beyond repair but the pump and lighting were okay my rain barrels by the house filled up during a rain storm and I had four extra barrels not hooked up so needing some way to get the water to the extra barrels I grabbed the pump from the fountain stuck a thirty foot length of plastic tubing to it and run it across the yard to the barrels I figured if I could pump some water across some is better than none it was still raining when I went out and checked it and the first extra barrel was full so I moved it to another it rained all day long and by the time I shut it down for the night all the barrels were full this is my 2nd season this year I'm building a first flush system putting gutter guards and tie the 3 by the house together I'm putting eavtrough on the garage and my sheds I'll use the pump to transfer water from the house to my barrels by the garden since the pump is 12 volt I'm going to hook it all toy a 12 volt solar system now to run the pipes under ground across the yard all the items I'm using are items others have thrown in the trash except the solar panels the controller I need to put a new battery in my jump starter pack also I'll need float controls but if you have Kijiji classifieds in your area or other free ad sites check out the freeby section and the garden section it's amazing what people give away or sell cheap
Yes. Sooo useful!! Thank you. I think the chickens liked it too…they clicked on cue. 🐥 😂 My dogs are gonna love this…it’s for their summer cool off corner of the yard!
I first tried the floating one a couple of years ago for my birdbath…was not happy with it. Scaled over from the water, got grody fast. I took it out, set it upside down (no shut off) and forgot about it. Now I’m playing around with little ponds, and as I recently found it off in the back, I figured it was dead. But no. Put it in water…still working! 😳 BUT: I separated the pump from the solar ring, unspooled the cord and while it doesn’t work if obstructed from the light…it does work. So, I’m using it as a bonus pump.
Dude, I've been looking for this video. Thanks millions. My plan was to circulate water / coolant through a radiator to cool down high power solar concentrators (that have the coolant running through the inside behind the receiver). After seeing the end of this, I'm ready to bring my query to the next level (buy parts to try). Solar pump Solar fan forcing air through the radiator Solar guided frame assembly to keep it tracking the sun all day (in Texas). It's coming together nicely now in my head.
Those pumps work abut a year maybe if you’re lucky. But they don’t last. They will stop. Garanteed. And no amount of pulling them apart and cleaning them will make them run again
Excellent video mate! Just found this randomly after looking for off Grid solar rainwater pumps for off Grid and this popped up! Wonder whether these could have the power to pump water from a water butt? (Perhaps linked to a battery and the solar panel they came with??) Egm so the solar panel charges a separate small cheap battery so you have power when sun isn't put or on the panel?? Might make a good video if you haven't already?) Anyhow just subscribed to your channel i like you get to the point and don't drag it out like many do! Great style of video don't change that mate!! (no one has time to waste on people filling out their videos it becomes boring!) Your video was brilliant mate to the point informative but also enough information to follow or recreate! Cheers from London England 👍😎🏴
Thanks for the feedback! Thats awesome you're from England, I love hearing where my viewers are from. I know you can buy Solar Pumps that have batteries in the system so they can run though the night. I've never used them to see how they work but I should!
I bought that same $15 solar pump (the small square one) last summer and it lasted only 3 months. I bought another one thinking I had a lemon and the same time frame and it stopped working again in 3 months. waste of money.
If you're going to set up something like this to run all the time you can't get too cheap or it just won't hold up. Might as well get something that will last more than 10 minutes. The big one with huge solar panel looks like it would be good with some sort of two- stage where when the sun is full it runs full power but in times of more shade it switches over to lesser pump and still keeps going. Instead of maybe just quitting.
I want to heat my pool. Put a solar pump in my pool, water has to have 6-8' lift to attach to hoses running along my fence and back into the pool. I understand end has to be lower than intake for gravity. When sun goes down, will there be enough to restart the process?
my prob is that i need to connect the solar panel to a rechargeable battery and to the pump because my tank needs constant water circulation and the weather here is bad. no one seems to have solved this.
Great video, Travis! Since I am finding this a year after you made it, I am having trouble finding these exact items at the links provided. I’m looking for a kit like the largest one that you show (10 w, 15’ cord, 160 GPH). Would you recommend something similar to the one in the video if it is no longer available? Thanks so much!
If I could mix and match a solar water pump with a battery, that would be great. Want something I can sit and enjoy with my coffee in the morning, or my wine in the evening, as the sun is waning.
I love how when you turned the solar panel over at the end your fountain started making chicken noises 😂😂 Seriously though I love your channel and how helpful it is
Wow thank you so much. I've been eyeing these on Amazon and was tempted to try the low end ones. I'm kinda shocked at how well the inexpensive one works tbh. Subscribed and I'm likely going to have a new water feature in my backyard this month thanks to you!
Yes. Battery pack and some kind of solar bank that can be charged inside then brought out for hours. Saw a woman do a video with that and think she said she got it at Best Buy cheap. Sorry I can’t link you. She is a woman who feeds 100’s of hummingbirds in So Cal and makes fountains for them.
I’m looking for a so,air pump for an existing fountain that had a crack in it until my husband fixed it with flex seal, you paint it on or spray it on. It worked great then, but the pump died because we had it on a very long extension cord and it could pull the polarity for the fountain. Not a big fountain, but not small either. Thanks for the ideas and information! You are very articulate and very thorough in description and the show and tell of it all. Beautiful, 💗sweet daughter too,
How foolish to go into a swamp with a kayak. That alligator probably courageously charged you because you too close to it's nest. Alligators are very shy. They are NOT monsters. You may well have gotten bitten by a cottonmouth snake, though. The Cajun people have a boat called a pirogue they use. Rent one next time.
AND TO THINK...I was gonna buy a solar fountain for 270$..and these pumps are 25 -40$. Glad I stumbled on this video to make my own fountain...cheers mate 👍
I hook up an irrigation hose to my solar pump , throw it in my lake and use it to water my trees. I just face the solar panel towards East and it pumps in the morning and that’s it. Fruit trees are looking awesome from all the nitrogen in lake
Thats awesome! I was thinking the same thing if I ever own property it would be an easy way to garden where there isnt power, with a rain catch basin or pond.
I so glad I didn’t purchase this solar powered pump. They claimed it would still work in the shade as long as there was some type of light which obviously isn’t true. Thank you for the video. :)
There are some that have battery ‘backup’ and will run in shade and before the sun is even hitting it. I get easy 12-16 hours of use in my pond (made from a cracked ikea farmhouse sink). No think mine was $40’ish on Amazon.
I love your videos and find them so helpful. I’m attempting to make a 2 tiered flower pot fountain. I’m at a loss as to which Solar pump. Please suggest one. Be gentle I’m a very senior and just try this out. Thanks for your help.
well this made me finally subscribe. THANK YOU. I have the exact same kiddie pool I'm painting and submerging and creating a waterfall/bird bath. my pump will not work and now I know what to get :) thank you.
One thing I wish there was LED on the Eco-Worthy solar pump. Any ideas or different pumps you’ve come across since the video that has same specs with LED light to create the ambience?
I drilled a hole into the mouth of a concrete rabbit. Cute one, put a pipe through and made my own water feature spitter. With a little one that has two pumps coming from the panel. Around £40
Lol the little daughter had me laughing! She was obviously listening or copying some of your movements! Things cost so much now! I’m starting to move to more solar power too! I put up solar motion lights for my daughters to be able to see at their moms dark secluded house! Next door you can hear wild dogs behind a heavy wooded area!
Hi , I’m looking to install one of these for a small cascade , can I ask please , does the pump have a pipe to draw in the water ? How long is it? As I would guess I place the pump itself at the top of the cascade . The pipe would be down in the pond by aprox 2-3 meters . Is that possible ? Thanks
Good question. No, so the pump only hooks up to a pipe to push water up. The pump sits at the lowest point in the fountain. I have other videos that better explain hooking up a pump and building fountains :)
i bought theround floating one..the solar panels that are directly on the fountain turned white in a couoe months and it no longer works..do not buy the floaters
This was exactly the video I needed to see. My mother in law wanted to make a little pond next to her garden, and we had an old kiddy pool laying around, so I dug a hole and put it in. Then she was like "It would be nice if we could do a fountain or something, but we can't run a cord out there. I googled if solar pumps we a thing, was a little skeptical of how well it could work. Now this is my recommendations and I'm thinking we can spare $20 to try something like this out.
