You could make the bottom out of straight cement with maybe a rebar for added weight and the sides and top out of hypertufa, which is cement mixed with peat moss. That would make them a lot lighter than the base and not so easy to knock over, so safer.

You could run the solar panel to a battery pack and the battery pack to the pump, thus it would run when it's shady. Slightly more expensive though.

That solar pump isnt set up for batteries. But other types are.

Have you thought about using a storage container with a lid as a reservoir for the water and pump? I saw someone else use this technique, then I came across your video. I think I will combine the two techniques to get the look I want.

That will be an absolute nightmare to get to the pump when there is a problem with it. However, I do like the square fountain. No matter what the probability that something will bump it, that heavy cement fountain needs to be secured so it cannot fall.

Lol yea I own a lot of Nike Running shoes from all my years as an athlete and when they get to worn for running I retire them for my yard work. That blue pair is like 4 years old :) they’re comfy! Lol

Love the idea of solar. But, I would need a battery as a middle man to keep it running a few hours because it would not be able to run in the evening when I’m off work and able to enjoy some peace and quiet.

I don't think those were cinder blocks, since they haven't been produced for decades. They're now made out of concrete. Also, 4x6 isn't square. I do love the final product.

4x6 was a reference to the area I made the fountain in. The fountain itself is a 2’x2’ square. I didn’t know that about cinder blocks I’ve just always heard people call that type of block cinder block. Glad you like it!

My oldest son and I are HUGE fan! My oldest son and I do these projects together in our "HOT" Florida backyard. We are building our own tropical oasis in a small corner of our backyard using the square fountain as our focal point. I took the your idea and stacked a 2nd square on top, they sit slightly twisted so the lower level helps break up the splash bc I have a little more surface area for the h2O to deal with. We also incorporated some wood as you did, however I used a shaped piece of driftwood (I know I went crazy, but it looks amazing) and when the light hits it at night the perspective is 💯. Thanks for all you do, you are a huge inspiration to us "weekend warriors". 💯

Yes but I have found some pond chemicals that keep it really clean and are not harmful to other plants.

water heater pan is too shallow. You could use some other kind of tub though. Like a wine barrel or something.

PROBLEM IS the pump might not last according to some of the reviews and there not cheap. The plugin is more reliable.

Yeah. There are a whole lot of exciting videos of people building stuff with that kind of pump... but I notice there's NEVER a follow-up video a year later showing that it still works. Maybe there are some out there but I just haven't found them. Call me stubborn but I flat refuse to buy hardware unless I'm confident it's going to last at least a couple years. And I have had very little encouragement in that regard about small solar water pumps, unfortunately.

I did notice the fact you wear wife beater tee shirts lol. Good job setting it up for your brother. I also like the tall big patch of red hot poker plants (Kniphofia ) to the right of the fountain.
