You MUST cut the wire in an 45 angle, you can't cut it straight. This 45 cut prevents the flux to get between the thread and the metal, the 45 angle lets the wire penetrate the flux, and create contact.
Hmmm! Lots of setup to do a simple weld. I would be done before you even had a chance to start an arc. I can see this would be handy in automated production where repetition is done once setup.
