We typically plumb with PEX, but for solar and wood fired hot water loops, copper is needed to withstand the high temperatures. In this video we show you how to solder copper tubing. Remember, the safety of your installation is your responsibility, if you don't feel comfortable doing this sort of work, don't do it! Hire a professional.

Thank you again, Brian. I really would like to not use solder, any kind of solder. By any chance are you aware of a way to have copper piping without using solder? Even if it's a more complicated and more expensive way.

There's crimped copper. Uses a crimping tool to press the pipe and fittings together.

@@kt_best Thank you for mentioning it. I figured there must be some system like that. I suppose it might limit how easily the installation will go, but in my view it's worth it, it's worth it to avoid risking getting some lead or other heavy metals that might be in the soldering wire into the water we consume.
