Also, I like that you take the time to make videos explaining the soles and why they are designed the way the are. Much appreciated.

Those 360s remind me of some megagrips I have on a pair of Vasques, I really love the grip of those soles especially on ice so when my jim greens need some new rubber I'll definitely be trying those.

I've never been disappointed with the Kletterlift. I found it's traction to be fantastic, even on mossy, slimy Oregon sidewalks. What I really like about it, is it gives good feedback if you are about to lose traction, unlike many other soles, where you are on your butt before you know what happened.

The majority of the hot weather U.S. Army McRae Footwear standard issue boots I got had the Vibram Sierra in tan. I have the most familiarity with this outsole over anything else. Although it does emphasize outdoor use, I am under the impression it still does fine on paved surfaces. If I see a boot that offer this outsole, it is immediately a favorable pick. However, unlike a dedicated jungle boot or mud boot, the Sierra did still have a tendency to accumulate mud. I've only seen and had the Vibram 360 force outsole on my standard issue Belleville Gore-Tex boots. The compound seemed soft and grippy. But it didn't seem to last as long as the Sierra. Almost all my experience with the Vibram Kletterlift outsole has been after my enlistment. As you mentioned, it doesn't last as long as the others mentioned in this video, but has great performance in outdoor terrain that excludes muddy environments. I'm not sure if this counts, but for the brief period I was performing wildland firefighting type 2 handcrew operations, I also got to use some Vibram Fire & Ice outsoles via some issued White's Boots, which bear a strong resemblance to the Kletterlift. I rarely encountered mud, so the outsole performed well on the various hardpack and loose soil/ash we had to traverse.

New Subscriber Alan Sir after watching a lot of your Videos here in the U.K. and I Love your work👍🥾 Personally I’m Shoes I prefer thick full Leather or Double Leather Soles but On my many pairs of walking boots it has to be Vibram Soles. I used to wear Karrimor walking Boots and found I was wearing out the Soles within 5-6 weeks🙈 Vibram Soles on my Altberg Boots just keep going👍

I think that the Vibram Sierra sole is a very good off-pavement, soft soil/mud sole, but by far I think the best mud sole is the old USGI jungle boot DMS Panama pattern. It'd work for snow as well I bet. I don't think anyone makes a replacement sole with that pattern, but I wish someone would!

Thank you for this awesome video. I used to be a cobbler also.. in fact I used to be a trainer for Management and Associates with Pells Shoe Repair that was located inside a grocery store. LOL. I traveled over 3 States that was in our Region a total of 45 stores / I was one of 3 traveling trainers to help get our associates and management up to par and well-established in knowledge and customer service. It's great to see the work you perform and the knowledge you have in all areas of shoe repair as a Cobbler. Now that I am disabled from a fall off a roof, I need to get my CAT steel toed boots resoled with the Sierra Soles as they come with Oil-resistant soles and makes it VERY hard to walk on snow or ice without slipping and sliding around. I am about to watch your video on resoling the Thorogood boots. Looking forward to seeing it. What state are you in, sir? I'm in South Bend, In. If you are close, I'd be very interested in having you resole my boots for me if it's not too expensive. What would be the cost to do a resoling using the Vibram Sierra sole?

We are located in CO and a Sierra flat sole runs about $90 for the pair. However if there is a wedge or other things need to be added or replaced that can change the price. It would be best if you can email some photos

I've had boots with that 1276 sierra. I don't care much for it. It clogs badly with mud and clay and is a PAIN to clean out, so my experience was opposite its design. My favorite sole of the bunch is the 360 force. I liked that one a lot on my military boots.

@@CobblersPlus It's anecdotal admittedly. But that has been my experience, so take it with a grain of salt. Not that I would mind having any of those soles, but I really like the 360 force.

I've seen a few anecdotes of the Sierra splitting in the front on bates boots. I believe it is the composition of the outsole being made of nitrile (plastic rubber). I can see why a lot of the smaller independent shoe makers out there just sticking with SBR (solid rubber), because it works. The companies i've seen in Africa (Courteney, the Kommando Stores Rhodesian boot, and Jim Green) all use thick rubber. The Courteney boot, in particular, has been known to last 10,000 miles in Africa (where ground tends to be more flat). Wish they imported some of their soles to the US, because the problem with Courteneys is their leather isn't very water resistant. Guessing it's a vegetable tan.

Hello, i live in a town called Porto which is in Portugal and has traditional-style pavement used for many pedestrian areas provides less traction it is very slippery when wet and I've seen many tripping hazards that went really bad, and Vibram simply doesn't work, in matter of fact it just gets worst, the only sole that is really efficient is the michelin star-grip pattern and material. So I tell every one i know (do not use vibram soles, you will slip and fall.) because vibram can't solve this mater...statistics, sales and laziness.

My cobbler recommends the adding the 02728MAXI DIE CUT half sole addon to my leather soles on my Grant Stones, and replace the top lift with the 05328 MAXI HEEL for better grip for city daily wear and light trail walking without looking too "hikey or construction". Are those good recommendations?

Vibram sierras are great UNTIL you have to tred thru mud , even a little gardening work will immediately clog the sierra soles up plus they take forever to clean. If you need a good muck sole nothing beats the USGI Panama jungle boot sole which i wish Vibram would add to their production line of soles.

@Azrakoth1
@Azrakoth1 3 года назад
@@justinpatrickhoffman Hi! Not the original guy you asked, but, I figured I'd give you a response since he didn't reply and I have had the Bates produced RAT boots from their canceled USMC contract, way back in 2014 or so. So, my response cannot give the build quality of Danner's RAT, but, it will still give some insight on the overall design of the boot and sole performance. The soles are rather good. In comparison to some of the other lug patterns that I have used in the outdoors and elsewhere (Vibram Sierra, the old Panama pattern, some Russian ones, etc) they tend to wear well and provide good traction. I'd say the traction is good in gravel and most soft dirt with a little mud. It does tend to trap more mud in comparison to some other tread designs, such as the Panama one, but less than others like the more conventional Carramato design. The boots are good and bad. The goods are that they are pretty comfy, not too heavy and that the toe and heel caps tend to resist damage well. The bad would be the leather tongue and, for me, lining. The leather tongue is more on the thick side due to having a cloth lining within, like the rest of the boots, and tends to form odd shapes/memory with use. While it may have been the way I broke in the boots, I did have one tongue form a permanent shape which allowed for more ingress of debris when fully laced up. The lining is also a bit of a pest if you get your boots wet and need them to dry a bit quicker. Insole and midsole are good, comfortable, but I have started to have some cracking/early damage to my midsoles on the heel region. This may be an issue exclusive to Bates and their material choice, however. Hope my experiences help! If there's anything else I can answer for you, let me know!

The 360 sole comes on a 2010s version of US Army issue tank crewman and flight FR(flame resistant) Desert Boots which also incorporate Nomex FR. On last resole the shop swiched mine to Sierra which was dissapointing to me as it degraded the specification of the whole boot. Will you resole to 360 force?

#1 best. Rest. Horrible ..I know I do concrete construction. And hiking hunting in utah backcountry ..vibram has some better options than these.. all flat sole is ideal..can do a middle dip. In the Cushion for better traction. Balance. Grippy rubber. Awesome hard military soles are dangerous . Otherwise you do good work. 👍 not knocking your preferences I been through hell yearly and I've worn every brand and style. Danners to Nike tactical. Acg. Bates ect..best are redone military boots..gortex winter to hot unlined in the summer..
