When I was in process of deciding whether to replace my worn out engine mounts by new OEM version or solid ones, I could not find any footage comparison of them on the internet. I hope this video will help many others to make that decision.

using a bottle and a plastic bag indicators - I love that kind of scientific approach 👍 anyway, those vibrations when idling - it's just a normal diesel life. rev it up and they fade away quite a lot.

What do you think about using vcds to increase the idle to like 1000 instead of 903 - do you think that's the point where its matches and does not vibrate so much?

@@ethanmccrory1727 I personally wouldn't give a 💩. I guess people want to drive not to stay idling, not to mention that idling the diesel for a long time is not the best thing to do... I had a diesel that was idling at 800. when it was cold, the ecu raised the revs up to ~900/1000/1100 depending on outside temperature - to heat the engine up faster. obviously, the vibrations were significantly smaller with higher revs. but 800 weren't bothering me anyway. You'd want to go for 1000 only if you don't want your: 1. dental plate to fall out of your mouth; 2. car(wreck) falling apart because of vibrations; 3. both 😉 but I'd recommend to stay at 800 if you want your girlfriend to feel good in your car with solid engine mounts 😁

In a Volvo, when we change from a dual mass flywheel to a single mass, using a diferent type gearbox oil helps a lot with the noises of the single mass. We change from a 75w90 to a 75w140.

Thanks for the feedback for the mounts! One thing you can do is set your idle speed to 965rpm (or just 1000rpm )and 70% percent of idle vibration will be gone!

The only time my hard engine and gearbox mounts are annoying is if it is freezing outside and the engine is cold. But I can confirm your observations regarding the handling in corners, so much better. Don't mind a little bit of 'race car' feeling.

You can clear service warning really easy, just press and hold the right button from the cluster while you turn the key in the second position, now release the right one and go to the left button and rotate it clockwise (to the right), turn the key off. And that should do it.

Hi Misha , since you have to change the front knuckles anyway to fit the larger brake discs and matching callipers it's really worth considering fitting CupraR/TT/S3 knuckles, cast suspension arms and the ball joints, also matching ARB and drop links, if you lower the car on the standard MK4 suspension the roll centre goes out of wack . handling is much better with the S3 etc. "Heavy Duty" suspension as VW call it, Also for a car you want to still use on the road maybe consider Cupra R/Skoda VRS rear beam bushes instead of Poly, again massive improvment in handling without the big downside of poly bushes ref noise and harshness.

great comparison since it smooths out with some rpm you can increase the idle speed when you have the car tuned and that would help your idle smoothness a bunch i imagine.

Misha order yourself some custom licence plate holders with your yt channel info :P that one you've got is from a dealer and it's ugly. You can get custom metal ones in croatia for pretty cheap (like 20 bucks in merkel money) edit: just now got to the end of the vid so now I know why you've got that ugly red plate holder... oh well :D

If you need any help installing the mods on your Golf, there's a mad genius in Zagreb called Damir Muha, he can get that TDI to any horsepower you want. He is the only one doing chiptuning the proper way, on a dyno, and not using premade maps. I can hook you up with a number if you want.

Service indicator - you can turn it off yourself without plugging the car in. There's a channel called "BMAC VAGS" that shows you how to do it, super easy. Had to do it on mine after I serviced it myself.

Those vibrations in idle with the solid mounts is still 10 times better like my first car. It was an Opel Kadett with 1.6D engine. That was horrible in comparison to your Golf. 80 Euro for parking? What a ripp off. That's like 2 2/3 laps on the Nordschleife. On a everyday car I would recomend rubber floormat at least on the driver side, especially if you often use unpaved roads or parking lot like around the Nurburgring, it makes cleaning the interior much easyer aspecially for people who have little time. License plate is great, really like it! thanks for vloging...

Misha, it vibrates even under higher rpm, but in different frequency, that's why you see it less "shake" on the bottle, but it still shakes, just at different frequency, but that harmonic frequency may be less disturbing than the one at idle rpm... but it's your car, you feel it, you have to tell, when it is bad/ok/worse/good... but bmw had developed "dampeners", they mounted to various places on the car, to mitigate diesel vibrations, maybe you can try something similar, if necessary

Map the ECU so that it keeps like 1k RPM idle (or whatever are the RPMs at wich the car stops shaking), problem solved. I guess it would consume like 0.1l of diesel more per hour of idle, but I think it's worth it, you're gonna remap the thing anyway.

I think this is now the most famous Croatian Numberplate on the Internet! I had solid engine mounts in my Brazil Pajero. Standing still at the traffic light was horrible :-D - Offroad it worked fine.

I'm glad your mounts turned out to be more agreeable than mine. The issue with mine was not that it was rough at idle, but that it also became rough at certain RPM above, so every time it crossed it, the whole car vibrated for a split second. I don't know if it would have eventually gone away, but it was too annoying to have the shake happen on every gear shift. Possibly to do with the different orientation of the engine and chassis configuration. That food shot, though... 🤤

I get around 4.8L/100km in my Ford Mondeo 08 😅 But at 80km/h and with no ac I can get under 4L Edit: It's 1.8L diesel manual. So I get around 1300km with one tank. Just about one week of driving to work.

depending on how big is your tank 1300 km is pretty good...i get the same with a 2.0 tdi manual 2008 a4 b8 almost 200 hp but my tank is 63 liters

Water doesn’t stop vibrating if you look at it, it vibrates in sync because you’re hitting the resonance frequency of the bottle/water

change also harmonic ballancer crank pulley at new belts service, if start to fail can cause vibrations. alternator also have harmonic damper on pulley.

@@mgcharoudin Yeah , did mess up that :) Btw , if you dident chose who will do mapping for your car there is license VW/Audi tuner 250km from Zagreb called Konopek Komerc , he drives drag races and he had audi coupe with over 1000 hp and for delivery car they use mk2 caddy TDI with 300 HP that they race also .

how to reset service warning: hold down trip button, turn ignition on. release trip buton, with clock dial select oil service or yearly service and hold it to the right until it resets. done.

Is that just the oil reminder or full service reminder reset? On my Audi I have the option to reset the oil reminder in the MMI, but for full service I can only do it with a proper OBD interface.

@@darjanator you can select both, push clock adjuster to the right to change between them. Dont know how its in newer audis, but in olders its the same as in golf
