@@garrygriffy1866 Charlie O'Donnell is the best, legendary announcer ever! Who knew besides announcing popular game shows like Wheel of Fortune, Card Sharks, Pyramid, and Press Your Luck etc., he announced Solid Gold in the 1986-1987 season. He is sorely missed by many people who loved his announcing popular shows.
I wonder who the singers are of this version of the theme song. It begins with a male singer, then a female singer takes over from there. An excellent theme no matter who the singer or singers happen to be. The song is a classic theme. There is a second verse that the composer of the theme song and musical director of the show, Mr. Michael Miller, just recently added to RU-vid. Dean Pitchford, of "Fame" fame, wrote the lyrics, all done in one afternoon. That takes real talent. That second verse rounds out the theme, but was not used on the show because of time limitations. Check it out on RU-vid. You will know the whole song from that point on.
tanquantwal that was Arsenio indeed! He had a long association with Paramount TV during the 1980s. Hits own hit talker was also produced in association with Paramount TV.
@@seanvogt221 Yes, actually less than that. This was from September 1986 to September 1987. The original Arsenio Hall talk show aired from January 1989 to May 1994 and was syndicated by the same syndicator, Paramount Television. So, this 1986-1987 season ended about a year before his syndicated talk show began. Just wanted to add some clarity.
@@seanvogt221 Actually, since this clip was from the 1986-1987 version of "Solid Gold," which had been renamed "Solid Gold '87," it was just within a year from the January 3, 1989 debut of the original Arsenio Hall television talk show, which had the same syndicator as "Solid Gold," Paramount Donestic Television, and remained on the air for more than 5 years, until May 1994, when it was replaced with the Jon Stewart television talk show.
@@robertphillips2642"Solid Gold" began as a one-time 2-hour special countdown of the top 50 songs from 1979. Ratings were huge. On September 13, 1980, the weekly series began and went for 332 episodes until July 23, 1988. From 1982 to 1986, there were special 2-hour annual, usually in February, countdown specials of the top 40 songs of the previous year and from 1982 to 1985, there were special 2-hour Christmas episodes. There was the 1982-1983 spin-off, "Madame's Place" and the June and July 1984 spin-off, the 30-minute weekday "Solid Gold Hits". "Solid Gold" had many different hosts and co-hosts throughout its 1980-1988 era.
