To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of Solid Rock, i have uploaded this historic archive. this was the day of the filming for the official clip of the song. After a very long day shooting close ups, the band then did a gig (starting at 1.00 am!) to a full house at this iconic St Kilda venue. Towards the end of their show they performed Solid Rock, for the long and wide shots. Luckily I was there to catch it from my customary position beside the mixing desk.

thanx ron -given the technology of vid cameras at the time i guess it was lucky that i worked for brashs and could borrow the latest domestic cams and portapaks to 'try them out'.

Thanks for the upload Rob, this is A) how Aussie "full house" music gigs used to be..., and B) Just a fantastic piece of historical/ archival footage, particularly as you/ they had been "shooting" the clip all day, then started a "gig" at 1am, then closed it with this! Awesome! . A.T.

Was this a backing track? Hard to tell sans didgeridoo player. If not, kudos to the band as it was a perfect rendition of the single.

Yes this was backing track, they were filming the clip for Solid Rock although i think the vocal is live and they did play along.

this was the 'live' segment of the filming of the Solid Rock film clip. essentially a live/mime combination. it was at a real gig and they did this towards the end of the set after filming close ups all day. you can see camera men either side of stage. So the didge is from the recording.

its both actually, as explained above they were filming wide shots for what would become the classic clip. so they played along with the track. part mime part live.

Rob, I would appreciate it if you could re-upload this and all the other footage of this night, with the credits corrected. Tony Buetel was not FOH sound engineer. I was and have the desk tapes and witnesses to prove it.

hi Bill. its a long time ago and if i fucked up the credits I'm sorry, but i wont be redoing or revisiting any of this any time soon as it is extremely labour and time intensive.
