Nice mate. Just started watching your vids. Just bought a 701 to do some trips on. Dandenong ranges based. Another thing to keep in mind, if you had a patch repair kit, with the bike on its side you can pop the bead, pull the tube out, patch and put back in, all while still in the bike. PITA, but possible 👍
@DKADV

That’s a good tip mate. I have put a patch kit in my bags as a another redundancy. How are you liking the 701?

This is an outstanding and breathtakingly brilliant video on the Vic highlands. Love the new bike by the way. The smaller bikes seem so much better over this terrain and a lot more forgiving than the larger bikes. Makes you wonder about the quality of tools these days.

Nice vid. Love the scenery of the high country. Interesting how you were describing hand signals to the 4wders... I've always only heard both as a motorbike rider and 4wder that you signal how many are behind you. That way, anyone along your group can signal. plus theyve already seen you so only care about how many they need to keep an eye for coming up.

Great ride DK. Awesome scenery, awesome videography, awesome tracks and riding. You could be a tour guide up in the Vic High country. Shame about the flat and that Bloody tool. I nearly had the same problem breaking the bead on my T7, but luckily I had a mate with a Dr650 on the ride with me, we balanced his whole bike on the side stand pressing down on the bead, it didn't break straight away, lots of WD40 and working around the rim, eventually it popped and we breathed a sigh of relief. So when I buy new tyres now, I install them myself at home, with 3 tyre levers, acting like a bead breaker. 2 outside ones pushing down to expose the bead, The middle one lifting up, to lever the bead over the safety bead on the rim, and lots of WD40. I did take a little chunk out of the old tyre, using this method, but nothing to stop it being used again. Its in my Yerranderie video, not the technique though, Unfortunately we were to stressed to record the Ordeal, maybe next time. 🤣 My flat was caused by too hard pressure and sharp rocks, went straight through the carcase. (Standard. Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR, very soft carcase.)
@DKADV
@DKADV 2 года назад
Thanks mate, I got the WD40 out on my flat also, but no luck. I like your idea about fitting your own tires, it would defiantly give you the peace of mind on your next flat. Do you balance them also?

Thanks for the video mate, always love the scenery and tracks of high country that you really captured. Big thanks for also naming the tracks it really helps someone like myself who lives interstate plan a trip there at the end of the year. You also had some good knowledge of the degree of dificulty for each track, if you dont mind me asking where could find that information? Thanks again
@DKADV
@DKADV 2 года назад
Hi Jason, I'm glad you enjoyed this trip. I have spent a lot of time in the VIC HC over the years and the information I provide is from my learnings. Below are some resources I like to use when I explore new areas. 1- Newtracs is a free 4wd desktop and app with up to date track information across Australia. The tracks are graded similar to how a ski run is graded. newtracs.com 2- RU-vid is a great resource on a specific track. You will find the 4wd community has been there and someone has done a video on it. 3- Topo maps (Topographic) show contour lines and elevation. This is helpful as you can look at the map and work out how steep the areas are. 4- High County Paper map - Hema do a version that is great while you're on the track. I have one also on my wall for trip planning. hemamaps.com/products/high-country-victoria-4wd-pack

Excellent video Dan. Really nice camerawork and post production. Yeah stock spanned is shit. Motion pro with 27mm adapter is the go. One other tool that is critical is the KTM spark plug remover. I hope you have one of those. Your cooking puts me to shame. 👍

Come on mate, you spend plenty of time out there, you got have a good feed at camp. Show us your camp meal on your Flinders trip. I picked up those tools also, thanks again for the tips. Also went with a different fuel dongle option that does not affect the fuel range as much as the one you tested. Pick one up from fueldongle.es. They are based out of Spain. Went for a burn on the weekend, and I noticed a difference on hill climbs. Very comfortable climbing in second gear and fule range was good.
@brentbat

@@DKADV OK.... I'll capture how lame my camp cooking is compared to your Gordon Ramsey flair. Fuel Dongle is interesting, Rex sent me a new one that has been tuned more for the 21 model 701.... but I haven't installed it yet and will do that when I get back from the Flinders.... It will be interesting to see the impact on economy. I'll let you know.

Great vid! I was not expecting the misfortune at the end. I am impressed how you dealt with it. I would love to do some high country stuff but I have the 1200 version of your 800. It sounded like a good idea at the time but something in the 500-700 range would have been a wiser choice. You referred to the roads in the ski sense, a black road and a moderate road etc, are they real classifications or your own terminology brought about by experience. Is it possible to map a route that is big bike friendly? I’m not too spooked bu some ruts and stones just need to keep it sensible, particularly if I go alone. Thanks again for the vid. Really enjoy your stuff.
@DKADV
@DKADV 2 года назад
Hi Mick, thanks for watching. The mapping programs I use is (Hema Maps & Newtracs) they grade tracks the same way as a ski run. I like this system because it is easy to tell someone how difficult the track is. Are you based in Australia? You can defiantly map your own tracks that are big bike-friendly. I highly recommend using newtracs.com/ as it has a free desktop map/app with a ski slope grading system that I use to plan trips. I find them to be very accurate as they update the track rating regularly.

I do a lot of 4wd driving and use tyre plugs to get out of the poop… often you don’t need to take the tyre off. I can’t see why this wouldn’t work with a bike tyre? The plug kits don’t weigh much and pack down small.
