Beautiful... both the photography and the ethereal soundtrack! I felt such a serene peace as I watched the video. I actually did the Mt. Whitney trail to the summit in 1998 with my best friend and have many memorable pictures, but no video, so your video allows me to relive my adventure over and over again... thank you!
Fantastic video. This was incredibly helpful for seeing conditions after a high snow winter and spring. Most of the online comments this summer were along the lines of "if you go, you will die" and this was helpful for planning future trips in a similar year to this past one. Doable under these conditions with the necessary caution. Really lovely video.
Wow....well done! I've been to the summit twice so I'm a big fan of Mt. Whitney videos and I must say, this is one of the best. Makes me want to go back. Thanks for sharing this. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Back in early 1970's and 1980's, before crowds and permits, the locals used to jog up Whitney in bathing suits and Converse high tops. The full moon overnight hike up and back was a neat way to summit without permits until the 90's. These days, for a less crowded more immersive approach, start over Cottonwood Pass and follow the JMT to the backside of Whitney. Don't camp at Guitar Lake with the crowds, continue another mile to the unnamed small lake above it, and go around the east side. Nice video, thanks for the memories.
Really amazing video. I'm hiking at the end of September and this makes it that more hype! Can I ask if you were cold? I'm always curious about the temp going up and at the top.
Thanks. It was cold. I had a base layer, hiking clothes, a down jacket, a beanie, and gloves. It was cold when I started at 4 am from the trail camp. Especially my hands got cold and I definitely needed gloves. Surprisingly, it was not cold and windy at the summit, but the weather changed every hour. I saw fog as I neared the summit, but it cleared away once I reached the summit. Good luck with your hike. One of the best hike I ever did.
Thank you! I did carry it but did not use it. In the afternoon, a few snow patches are slippery. Depending on your confidence level, you may or may not require microspikes.
