My journey through Lincoln National Forest continues as I crawl along FS201 and break a few components along the way. Totally worth it though! Ride along as we chase down the sunset, experiment with some new tech, and explore an old abandoned homestead. New Mexico is just full of surprises!

I am so homesick. My son won't even watch because you are in our home area and doesn't want to get homesick too. Been watching you all day. Thanks for the pleasure I have had. A year and a half and we're there. Red sands, White Sands, and Lincoln National Forest here we come!

Kevin, I have been four wheeling since the early seventies. Even while carrying an air compressor I have always kept an air hose with a lock on female chuck on both ends of the air hose. I then keep my spares air up as much as your comfortable with.

The ARB failure was most likely the small screw they use to connect the piston to the motor shaft. Both of my arb twins have had this failure. Pretty easy fix, disassemble the side not pumping. You can drill and tap The connecting rod to 1/4x20 screw. You have to either turn, or grind down the od of the new cap screw head to get to to fit the counter sink. no issues since.

The house you showed is my families homestead! My great grandmother was born in that house. It is called the kite ranch. I wish I could tell you just how much my grandmother is going to love seeing the drone shot of the property as she can not get up there any longer. So from the bottom of my heart thank you from my family to you! Plus we watch every episode you make and it was very exciting to see it come from you!!

I think the ARB did a great job considering it's use. I also think you're fortunate to have it break where you're at. Doesn't sound like you're too remote. Tires can run on pretty low psi, even on the street. Knew someone who ran 15psi all the time.
@LivinLifeinDrive

Our ARB single compressor has been great! We mainly just run the lockers and swaybar disconnect, but occasionally I will air up the tires for the last 5 years! Great drone shots man! Toyota should be paying you for making their product look good.
@mikehoffman3690
@mikehoffman3690 4 года назад
We have a dual ARB compressor for tires but run an Eaton e-locker for that very reason. The e-locker removes one additional failure point. 57 gallons of gas equates to 342 pounds. Unless you are making some extremely remote trips (🤫) the added weight may not be advisable for most.
@scottsnyder8691

Great point about the tire pressure monitors. My Gladiator will show actual tire pressure on a certain screen. I always have that screen on when I've aired down just to monitor pressures to make sure I don't have a puncture. Otherwise, if I don't have that screen on, I just know I have low tires pressure, which isn't very helpful.

Speaking from some experience that drone footage you managed to capture underway was truly beautiful! I haven't quite mastered the art of driving while flying, but that was secondary to my intense jealousy for the solitude you were able to find out on trail. Thanks for putting in all the hard work to make this beautiful body of content for us to enjoy!

Full body skid plates is something I'll have to add to my Ranger. Pretty sure the FX4 only comes with a front skid plate and a thin gas tank plate. You don't always have the luxury of having someone get out and check your clearance. Sometimes you just gotta scrape along.

Great solo video recording. I really like to see vehicles on a challenging trail, especially when pulling a trailer. I know that it wasn't the Rubicon, but still a tougher trail than a graded road. Sorry to hear about the ARB compressor. 50+ gallons of fuel is going to be very heavy. You will have to increase the spring rates or add more air to the airbags to help with bottoming out. I am going to check out those tire temp pressure sensors thingys.

I think you’ve done enough off pavement travel to know what psi works for you. People also forget tire construction plays into it. 11 psi in an LT tire might flex the same as 18 psi in a C load range. Just depends.

Queen? You’ve been to Queen, NM?? Yea! We went down to Dog Canyon, via Queen earlier this year. Odd thing just outside of Queen, we pulled over next to a stock tank when we got a sliver of cell coverage. While the boss lady checked email I walked over and looked in the stock tank and it was full of GOLD FISH. No kidding, the dang stock tank in the middle on no-freaking-where was full of fat gold fish. BTW, Dog Canyon (TX) is in Guadalupe NP but it seems to be a secret. Nobody but the volunteers were there.

Crazy, we were there in October at that exact same gate you opened. FS201 is fun but pretty rocky and bumpy but that is a great camping area, right before that gate which overlooks the ridge. We took 201 down into the canyon but saw some Puma looking tracks (are there Pumas there?) so we went back up.

@BRollOffroad
@BRollOffroad 4 года назад
lots of public land areas have deals to allow grazing. people trailer thousands of cows hundreds of miles and drop them off in there for a few months. everything is open to the public and allowed but yea, it's to keep the animals inside. basically if there's no sign saying otherwise or lock you're usually good to go but best to check a resource before doing so. the little sign in the first clip is a "close the gate" sign.
