This dude said his legs were cramping up yet still does multiple shots of him climbing up the steep terrain full well knowing he has to walk back for the camera 😅Mt Owen is just in another world of beauty. Such a special place!
I was looking back through the Abel and Victoria compendium and found this. Wow! Wonderful video and you had excellent luck with the daylight weather which was perfect.
Ciao Abel & Victoria, Yayyy, finally watched da Vid.. Dang what a walk You make.. in Shirt & Short.. But da View onda Top of da Mountain⛰️.. PRICELESS👌😉.. I thought 1st You stayed onda Spot You had Pausa earlier.. I believe for sure, You had not much Sleep durin da Night, coz da Tent⛺was movin all time😬.. I was thinkin about 1 of my favorite Hobby's🤭.. Stunt Kiting, maked my own Speed Demon Kite & did it for Years.. Kiting.. Thanx for sharin your Vid. I enjoyed it, gonna "jump" later tae your next Adventure😊.. See Ya🙋... Greets from Europe🙃
Yeah it was a bit rough up there in the wee ultralight tent. I got a little sleep but definitely not a good one. Stunt kiting sounds extreme lol and fun. Thanks for watching 😀
New subscriber here. Got to know your channel through AB Camping. Happy to find another channel who is doing camping in New Zealand... Most beautiful Country eva! Keep up the wonderful work!
Excellent. Nelson is a great place to live, with so many opportunities like these to experience the Great Outdoors. Hope you can keep up your output of these inspiring videos.
Thanks for showing us the route Abel as it gives a good idea what to expect. We're due to grovel our way up there next week for our 8th anniversary. The ridge route was unrelenting and hard on my toes last time so we'll opt for the Blue Ck track up to the junction. You did well to get up to your campsite in one day, and great to see you with a lighter 8.5kg. pack. So satisfying to summit! I hope viewers appreciate all the back and forth required to film this.
I have done both ways up. Blue creek is probably easier on the body. Gotta make sure the boots fit right going down that ridge lol or your toes will be numb for weeks.
What an amazing trip and place you camped!!!! I so enjoyed the whole video, really fantastic Abel, thank you! And that wind at night, yeah that was scary. Could you keep your eyes open in the warm car, heading home? This video must have cost you a lot of energy and effort. Thank you for this beautiful video!
Wow this was so amazing to see, I could never see this in the states where I live unless I went to the Rocky's or Smokey mountains. Great videos you guys are super fun to watch!
Great content and Views!! Can’t wait to watch more of your vids and past vids. AB Camping (Tony and Brucey) recommended your channel. 👍🏿 Keep on smashing the content Abel. -Liam from Australia 🇦🇺
Just got to catch up on some of your older videos Abel. Wow, now that’s a high hike and camping experience. A little nerve wracking to watch the wind during the night for you. You do push yourself to the limit but at least you keep yourself safe and know your limits so that’s good to see and you really appreciated your very scenic experience up there on that mountain which makes it all worth it for you. Thanks again.
Awesome camp!! Wish I could have come, my knee definitely wouldn’t of coped or been able to keep up - looked like you were half running the track 😂 happy to have you home safe xx
Hi Abel. Got shout out from AB camping. If he endorsed you then I'll have faith. Subscribed to you now so good luck with channel. Ps good luck from Ireland!!!!
You are so near the 1k subs you deserve that milestone the video had all the elements of drama, scenery and my personal favourite the panaramic views into the heart of the Kahurangi. My daughter has recently arrived back from overseas and inspired by me talking about your videos has promoted we do some bush time, the luxury camps that you guys do so well. The ripple effect has started!
Yeah almost 1k. Said I would cook an entire chicken once I hit 1000 subs lol. Still not sure how to best do this. Glad you enjoyed the vid hopefully get out for a more luxurious camp soon victoria still having issue with her knee
That was awesome. The best part, apart from the misty vistas and alpine daisies was you got to the tarn and it looked bleak and you were thinking about camping there, but went on and the weather cleared a little! Thanks for sharing. I smashed my french press last week - so Ill look into the Aeropress :)
Yeah really glad I pushed onto the summit. Great camp spot but no sleep lol. The taste and low level of care required for a good brew makes it a winner.
Ciao Abel & Victoria, Im new here, Im watchin Tony & Brucey from AB Camping right now & so I landed in your Channel.. I'll gonna watch Your vid. In a while.. promised😔.. Nice tae meet You.. 🙋Greets from Europe🙃
Hey Dale the quads were fully pumped lol having lighter pack really helped. The Nemo tent is cool did pretty good up there even with its tissue paper thin rain fly
Another outstanding Video Able, the views are amazing. Once again you bring your adventures into our living rooms, as if we're along on the tramp with you. Note you could have borrowed Victoria's hiking poles. Keep them coming.
I’ve camped in some nasty weather where the wind gusts got darn near scary, BUT I think a lot of people don’t put enough trust into their gear. I mean, that’s why you pay the extra money and get the big name brand equipment. Darn , even Mt 10ft by 10ft tarp I bought off Amazon (cheap, no name tarp I paid $30 for) withstood a nasty wind storm.
Congrats on ticking that goal off, those missions makes one feel truly alive. I loved the relaxing summit scenes & excellent music choice. Surprised you didn’t buy an aero mini but there’s Victoria to consider. A little dramatic in the tent, of course you’d survive 😂
Probably should have gone with the mini. Might get it also. Ideally I’ll get a small titanium cup for this set up. Boil water in that cup then also have it to drink from. Save me bringing the kettle. I am a drama queen lol. The tent is like tissue paper doesn’t inspire confidence.
@@AbelandVictoria I take both a 750 & 250ml titanium, it might be too hot on lips IF you were to boil in same drinking container. Your sub growth rocks…so proud of you Abel 👍
Great video again Abel, was Victoria's light on? The halo around the sun was near, so, far rain @ 11 degrees, and far ring (22 degrees) near rain. Rainbows Halos and Glories was the book in its Day! When I started out tramping in the 60's- late, tent weights and quality was deplorable. Good hike mate...........
Great weather for it mate. Thanks for the video. Where abouts do you usually get your radix and real meals from if you don't mind me asking? Cheers Tim from Motueka.
@@AbelandVictoria cheers, I might give some a try. Climbed up to "The Gap" in the Torlesse range last weekend it was a decent constant steep hike up to foggy peak then carried along the ridge via castle peak etc was a good change of scenery. Real foggy though so didn't get the views we had wanted unfortunately. Cool all the same.
@@AbelandVictoria It's a perfect tooth shaped notch out of the mountain you can hike up and around into it. It's up above springfield area. One access is from porters pass carpark on hwy to Arthur's pass, going over ridgeline via foggy peak and castle hill. It's a great view out and around on a clear day. All gravel and rock with very little vegetation the whole way up so quite different to up here. Cheers I'll try the radix out.
Fantastic trip. I appreciate your cinematography skills. For your cramps I recommend a homeopathic product called "Cramp Stop - beat the camp monster" available at chemists in the Nelson area. Spray under the tongue and it stops any kind of cramp in seconds. I also recommend you take some electrolytes in your drinking water like salt, potassium, magnesium and calcium. Keep up the great work.
Thanks. On the way up I had a Powerade also had some little electrolyte pills called salt sticks. At the tarn when I could feel the legs starting to cramp up I ate 6 of them and it’s subsided pretty fast. I was walking faster then usual and it’s a long way up. I’ll check out the spray product. Thanks for the tip.
Great video. What is the rules here in NZ regarding camping this way? This is a lot more the way I'm used to in South Africa, but I'm not sure where I'm really allowed to camp in NZ. Does it have to be in the camping spot by a hut or where it is specifically marked as a camping area on the map, or are you allowed to do it along any trail where there is a comfortable, safe place to pitch a tent?
Hey thanks. You can camp anywhere in doc land really so I believe. There are some rules around camping near the tracks and huts. If you visit doc website all rules will be specified.
Wow! I know why they say that only the strong survive. You definitely have to be strong to do a climb like this one. Thank you both for sharing with all of us!!❤
Thanks for the great content. I can see the joy you have for hiking and camping you show us. It is inspiring to see the views and how you deal with the challenge. Please keep at it. Where I live there are no mountains, just woodlands with creeks and lakes.. So, this is great.
Thanks Abel for sharing your trip to the top of Mt. Owen which I tramped up in 1959 . As usual the resolution is very sharp, and I think it's the next best thing to being there myself- without the effort! The karst landscape is fantastic - I believe part of the "Lord of the Rings" was filmed there. Cheers!
Mt Owen is special place, with a unique karst landscape. Thanks for taking us along, and the mahi with cramped legs to film is fantastic. Also I have great child hood memories in those hills, so any video them is nostalgic...
Don’t know how I’m going to keep this chicken cold on a hike in. It’s going to be tough. Subs going up to fast now lol was thinking it would be colder when hit 1k
@@AbelandVictoria you might have to carry it frozen and it'll be defrosted by the time you get to camp😆...although your pack will be damp... hmmm, 🤔 it is a conundrum.
