The Lost Coast is a 25 mile stretch of undeveloped coastline in Northern California. In February, I tackled the hike by myself in two days. The rugged beauty and solitude absolutely blew me away and I hope you can have a chance to go check it out as well.
If you are interested in hiking yourself, you can find my written guide here:

I was up in Trinidad and Eureka this past summer. This stretch looks beautiful and very demanding.

Thanks for the trail breakdown with your thoughts and tips - that’s incredibly helpful. I love the lost coast and have spent so much time there - I’m tempted to move to it. The beauty is shocking - pretty much no video does it any justice until you’re there and by yourself. Sometimes I get irrationally worried that it’ll be ruined the more publicity it gets, but it’s so remote that I think that’d be pretty difficult. You basically have to really know and want to be there - it’s not a day trip or casual visit type of place. Which I guess is why I love it.

I liked the dog edits where he was flopped all over the bed in different positions while you were talking :). Hopefully you do some trips with your dog in the future. I am a dog dad to a golden retriever and it's awesome to go on trips with your dog, the only down side is it does limit some of the areas that you can go since the national parks often frown upon dogs on the trail. There are still plenty of wilderness areas that have no dog restrictions. The shelter cove to mattole stretch of the lost coast is also dog friendly.

I have also camped out there and it's pretty darn magic. Maybe invest in a wind screen for you camera mic. Many of the beaches there are various grades of gravel and not sand, per-se. I was surprised you could get all that gear into your pack. Nice job on your vid.

I just returned from Mattole Beach campground. We hiked out to the lighthouse and were welcomed by a large population of elephant seals. Stunningly beautiful and remote. I'm glad that I found your channel.

You should do the southern section as well! Its more elevation gain and more varied in scenery.

That sounds like such a great ritual! I definitely need to get back up there to do the southern section, but my next few trips will be in the Sierras 🏔

Hiking on the beach must be exhausting after awhile. I got into Red Dead Redemption 2 last year and it gobbled up my time. Suddenly making videos didn't seem that important anymore!

Great video! I am going in October this year. My friend whom was going to go bailed so even tho I have two permits to hike, I’ll be likely going solo just as you did. Any pointers outside of the tide zones?

That’s gonna be a great time to go! I bet the weather will be fantastic! You will have a good time solo, but if you want to find someone to go with, I bet you’ll find someone on r/norcalhiking (Reddit) 😄

I'd say take just what you need, leave most luxury items behind. The rocks do a number on your ankles, the less weight on your feet the better.

@@Pacman259 great recs and would trail runners be okay such as my Altras?
@Pacman259
@Pacman259 2 года назад
@@drummindreams Yes, but I would recommend using minimalist gaiters as well. I wore La Sportiva Bushido's for my most recent hike of the trail, and combined with Dirty Girl Gaiters I had no problem with sand.
