Bear with my camera at the beginning of this video. The water inside the lens had to dry out. This camping trip has to be one of my all time favorite because I have a solo canoe that actually makes sense for me! Canoe Camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area never disappoints.
We camp and hike in and around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, we often travel, and we’re also building and enjoying an off- grid cabin in the woods and we love sharing the journey with you!
Thank you for supporting our channel :) :)

I have been a long time subscriber back to the days when you were in the peace corp but have never posted because I always watched it on TV so I just wanted to touch base let you know I probably found you by searching boundary waters in the beginning because I did 4 or 5 trips there. 30 of us from our Mankato youth church group went up a number of times from 1977 into the early 80s. I'm 61 and living in Florida and spent summers at a cabin north of Aitkin, Minnesota growing up and have enjoyed your cabin project and various trips around the state. I remember so many of those spots, including the North Shore and Itasca State Park. Best wishes on the marriage and instant family you have been blessed with. God bless!

Jodi, this was such a peaceful video. Thank you. I was drawn to the idea of travelling solo in a solo canoe. You make it look like it could be ok to go alone.

Hey Jodi, Wonderful video and it looks like you had a nice time. I love canoeing as well. I have an old 17 foot aluminum and I also recently picked up a kayak paddle for my rubber raft and thought it would be easier for the canoe as well. It works okay but I agree will probably work better with a smaller canoe. I am looking to get a smaller canoe that's lighter to haul and maneuver like a 10-12 foot fiberglass. I have never been to the BWCA, but my wife and I love the North Shore. We try to get up there in early May and late September, but we haven't made it up there in over a year, hoping to get there this fall. Anyway, congrats on your marriage! Praying you have a wonderful life together. I enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing with us!🙂

Enjoyed the video, watching these just takes me back to the Boundary Waters. I hope that you can mention where you are. I'm always curious about your entry point and what lakes or rivers that you are paddling. I had a Moose sighting many years ago very similar to yours in this video. All the weeds that you were dealing with, it seemed that the Lake/River you were on was pretty shallow.
@jodimiddendorf
@jodimiddendorf Месяц назад
Yeah it was shallow. Probably why fishing wasn’t great for me. This was Baker lake entry point.

On the yoke...you guys could slot one hole in the direction of the yoke and keep the other one just round. That way it can expand and contract and it will still bolt on and off no problem.

Jodi, another great video - thank you! Could you share ~ what solo canoe you found/purchased? weight? how did it handle? and do you think would it work for a 2 week solo trip? I'm 67 and haven't been back to the BWCA in 45 years but I'm planning a solo trip for October, really looking forward to it!

Jodi, after backpacking for 15+ years I am FINALLY doing my first BWCA trip starting Sept. 10th - 23rd. 13 nights, 14 days. Leaving out of sawbill and covering about 130 miles. I cannot wait. Your videos about gear, what to expect, etc. have been a realistic approach to planning this trip. So thank you for that! You had one amazing trip, and I cannot wait to experience it myself. Again, thank you and God bless!

My wish for you is that you can always have camping filled years, I wish I had a lot more time off to get out there than I do, I love to camp with family, but there is something so peaceful and satisfying about a solo. A two night solo really puts my head back together when things are hard. And when things are easy it’s just a great time to connect with the outdoors, I love the way a quieter solo camp allows the forest reveal itself.

Uh oh. When the forest goes silent it means that a bigfoot is nearby! 😄. Or at least according to what Base Camp Chris says over on his channel. But it's also usually accompanied by a foul odor. Very cool to have some moose sightings. Not as common as it once was
@jodimiddendorf
@jodimiddendorf Месяц назад
There probably was a Bigfoot! I heard so much noise at night in the water. Sounded like fish jumping but could have been Bigfoot going for a swim🤷‍♀️.

Thanks for making these videos. I've been sending them to my daughter(in her early 20's) hoping to inspire her to do some wilderness camping, canoeing, hiking. I wish I would have introduced it to her earlier in her life, but I'm more or less a newbie myself. Great videos, great advice and very inspiring. Thank you again.

What make and model is your solo canoe? Nice video. You do not look old enough to be married, young genes forever. We use kayak paddles canoeing, certainly adventure racing. More efficiebt imho. Great as spares too w regular paddles too in tandem canoes. Beautiful area up there. Thanks for sharing.

Most of my permits are booked about a week before each trip. I just take whatever permit is available. I’ve never had an issue getting a permit, there’s always something available. This year I booked one permit back in January when permits opened. I still didn’t get the permit I was hoping for, but it worked out.
