Thanks for great video! Just ordered a UL version as well. Bought the UL tarp to go with it, but that grey really does look better. Wish they'd make the UL tarp in grey as well. Can't wait to try it out!
Amok makes a magnificent hammock! I just can’t justify hauling the weight in my pack. I solo on long stretches and every ounce counts! I use a Dutchware that is significantly lightweight compared to this. The Amok company itself is amazing to deal with and they really do go the extra mile even after your purchase. My kids use the Draumr but I just don’t pack with it anymore.
Thanks for the video. Does the new UL fabric stretch noticeably more than the original? Does the sleeping or chair mode positions feel different from the original?
Thanks for watching. I haven't noticed any stretching at all. All functions and comfort level are the same. Only difference really besides the weight reduction, is the fact that the fabric is a bit more slippery.
Nice! Very tempted to get one. I had an eye on the 4, but the UL has potential. I feel like it would be colder? Though I guess you're in a sleeping bag anyway. Does that lighter material allow any wind through?
It might be a bit colder, but that wouldn't be my major concern. I think you need to choose whether you want lighter weight or a more durable fabric. (The Ultralight is still very tough) Rasmus
I had a hell of a time getting centered in mine. I kept tipping foward and had to have someone hold it still for me to get in. I need more practice for sure!
Just ordered one a few days ago and it's already on it's way to Canada. Everyone seems to be getting the XL version and it must be that everyone is over 6' tall. I'm 5'10'' or 70 inches and when I was building my order it recommended the regular size is this correct What do you think? Love your video..Kevan with an eh
Hi Kevan, you'll be fine in the standard model. I'm 180 cm tall and just barely fits the standard. I do prefer the XL though since it allows me to put my arms over the head. (When it's warm enough) No matter the model, some great sleeps awaits you 👌🏼 Have fun and enjoy! Rasmus
Not really. It does a bit when you crawl on board, but it only lasts a few moments. It's comparable to a gathered end hammock in terms of "swing", but only the other way... wish it lasted longer really 🤔😄
I hace not yet seen anyone leavr the inflatable mat in the hammock sleeve to pack it away. It saves two manoevres each camp. Obvoissly it changes the packed shape of the hammock but that would be solvable. 'Appy 'Amoking!
I've had bad luck with 3 gathered end hammocks, first getting a wider thinking comfort would be better. Then getting one with spreader bars thinking comfort would be better. Now looking at this one and thinking it's an expensive learning curve 😂. How do you switch between sitting mode and sleeping mode? Is the wind blowing thru that thin material?
It can be a long journey 😂 You pull the interior straps to get in chair mode and vice versa... The regular 5.0 is more resistant to wind than the Ultralight, but in my experience it's not a deal breaker. You really should decide whether you want less weight to carry or a more durable hammock. 🙂
In light rain I just use the velcro strip at the end of the tree straps. In heavy rain I use the Bevara lock thing from IKEA www.ikea.com/dk/da/p/bevara-poseklemmer-30-stk-forskellige-farver-forskellige-storrelser-10339171/
I have the Amok XL and the main issues I have with it are 1.) The pad bunches up on the side of the pad and is kinda annoying when trying to sleep on my side. 2.) When getting in and out the head end rises up so much that it pulls out the stakes holding my park at the head area. Do you have any ideas how to fix that issue? 😆. Otherwise it’s a nice kit.
First of all I find it necessary to blow up the pad as much as possible. The white 3 season pad is more rigid than the Winterlight. But I don't really have any problems with either of them. Do you mean the stakes of the tarp? Getting in and out takes a little practice to do in a graceful way... 😄
@@fimbuloutdoors I tried pumping the pad to different fullness, but it still bunches a bit. I have pictures of it, but can’t send photos here. I talked to Amok, but it’s past warranty and it doesn’t leak air so nothing can be done. Oh well. I must have seen your entry into the Amok awhile back because I’ve adapted that method as well. But, when doing as I see in your demonstration(which is more graceful than me 😉) the head comes up so much that the stakes that are holding the tarp in the rear tend to come out. Or when lying in it the tarp gets so close to the Amok that if there’s a breeze the tarp was annoyingly hitting my head. Ideally I would find a spot that can guide out the front and rear of the tarp to trees instead. That UL looks fantastic, but even with my early bird deal on the original XL I couldn’t fathom buying 2.
@@MrBalas3 regarding the tarp, have you tried to raise it a bit? I usually tie it to a stick to lift it up. I know exactly what you mean about the costs. There's enough to spend once hard earned money at...
@@fimbuloutdoors Yes I’ve raised the tarp and I think I had the Amok up to high too, so I think I maybe should lower it. I’m worried about the hanging straps not being at a correct angle and with having it to low might cause more stress on them. I just need to fiddle some more. I spend more time playing disc golf than camping, but after over a dozen times of setting it up just to relax or camp with I still find it a struggle to get just right lol.
No, the weave is not as dense, so its much more breathable and therefore not as "windproof". I don't find it to be an issue though. The benefits of the lightweight fabric are many... 🙂
@@fimbuloutdoors heh, Ive been using mine since 2019 so its a bit worm. Was out when it hit -18c in dk a few weeks ago and was fine, but i wouldnt underestimate the windprotection of the fabrict nor the mosq netting in the colder times. Just this morning i could feel the temp drop “inside” when i opened up to get out in the morning. Vi er et par amokkers tæt på århus der tit tager ud hvis du savner lidt amok selskab btw
@@srenfruergaard2979 the wind can be your greatest enemy. I always try to get the best possible compromise between view and shelter from the wind. 👍🏻 Tak for buddet, hvem ved, måske ses vi til et hangout 🤜🏻🤛🏻
