Great video. I live in Southern California and did a lot of backpacking in the Sierra's in the 70's and early 80's. I suffered from altitude sickness on my early trips. What worked for me was to train harder than normal when I knew I was going on a backpacking trip. I also tried to get to the trailhead the afternoon before and sleep in my car to try and acclimate to altitude for at least one night. If I went from sea level where I live to 10,000 feet by the end of the first day's hike I would often have problems. I'd also have high quality sunglasses. Squinting invariably gave me a headache. For me, most important thing was to stay hydrated. When you're hiking, especially if it's cold, you have a tendency to not drink as often as your should. I would drink a lot before I started out on the hike and as much as possible during the hike. That was a huge factor for me. And of course I always had plenty of extra strength Tylenol for the inevitable headache I would get. Sometimes I'd be out backpacking for 2 weeks at a time so it was important for me to control any altitude sickness as best as I could. After the second day of my backpacking trip I was well acclimated. Any headache was gone and I was fine. Again, staying well hydrated was the key for me. Good luck and safe travels.

Great quality videos, greetings from Scandinavia. I studied in San Diego for some years and visited Lake Tahoe with some friends at winter during that period, great to see LT during summer. All the best!

California gets a bad rep but nature-wise it's a top 3 state.

Altitude changes air pressure and so does the weather (high/low pressure systems) - isobars. Phone may have pressure info, 1000 hPa (Hectopascal) also known as Barometric pressure. Some people get bone aches when the air pressure drops, so they know bad weather is on its way. Unfortunately the phone needs network to get the info so not so useful when out of range.

Farmers let their cows graze in the national forest and they have bells on them and the bears and mountain lions follow the bells so they might think you're a cow and follow you having bells on.

@@zephaniahmarion omg 🥲 I love cows but don’t want to be mistaken for one as prey! Thanks for the tip :) Also seems like the perfect excuse to not hear the annoying jingling. I’ll stick to talking / singing to myself from now on hah
