I solo hiked and backpacked the Alta Via 1 in late autumn and in snow. The 2nd night there was about 30cm snowfall. Hiking through 30cm snow with a backpack was pretty hard. The Alta via 1 is a long distance hiking trail about 120 km long located in the Dolomites, Italy.

@@YensBastiaens Did you take the tent? That backpack seems small! Or used Bivac? I've done it in the late summer though we did carry tent. Your dog is not impressed with your dancing skills for sure.

@@Prashant.Khapane Yes, I took my tent with me. I just went ultralight. I had everything I need in my backpack to sleep without the need of refuges in case I needed to. Haha, yeah he wasn't impressed, but I had fun though. My backpack is 38 liters I think.

It really depends what the weather forecast says. If it's rainy I will take waterproof jacket with me and if it's going to be below 0 degrees I will take an extra layer of clothes with me. If it's winter I take my waterproof + puffy jacket with me and thermic underwear and usually wear a sweater + tshirt throughout the day

I love it ! I'm about to hike Alta Via1 with my dog this year, just wondering whether refugios are open in May and if they accept dogs... we want to avoid crowds but not sure if bringing tent is a solution.... Thank you!

Most refuges don't allow dogs and the opening date depends from refuge to refuge. Best option is to look for their websites/socials.

Really nice video my pup sat here with me the whole time watching it 😁. That shot at 6:12 straight up reminds me of Yosemite. Good job slogging through the snow, it resulted in some really amazing shots you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. What do the trail markers with the numbers mean? Is that the trail number? I would love to make it over there someday for a hike.

Really beautiful route you have walked. If I remember correctly, me and my friend walked past you at the top of Lago Coldai at 6 November 2021. We were going down and you were climbing up, it was almost dark so we always wondered “where did the guy with the dog end up” We found it amazing that you were hiking with your dog. Did you do the whole Alta via 1? It’s kind of short I think you stopped at rifugio Al cold ai and then went into the city ? Did you always sleep in the huts ? Is it necessary for me to take a tent because I’m about to do it as well in two weeks ? Let me know Id appreciate it !

I did indeed stop there due to weather conditions. Some huts have a winterrom while some others do not.
