Visiting Monsterrat is one of my best experiences so far in Spain! So I recommend it 100.
You will get the opportunity to see the lush Spanish countryside and also the adventure of hiking next to the large boulders.
How To Organize Your Train Journey From Barcelona to Montserrat
When you’re going to Monsterrat, I suggest you don’t buy the tour and purchase your tickets from the machine at the train station. They offer a single and also a return ticket which cost 43.80 euro.
Before you go I highly recommend you check the weather to ensure it’s a clear day so you can enjoy every sight of the scenery.
What to wear when hiking Monsterrat?
Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, maybe breathable trainers, a T-shirt, and shorts. Just make sure you’re comfortable.
How long is the train ride to Montserrat?
The train ride is 1 hour.
How do I get from Barcelona to Montserrat?
Get to Placa Espana metro station, then from there buy your tickets.
You can get the ticket that includes the train to the mountain or you can choose the one that includes the cable car (this is the one I choose, see video).
Once you purchased your ticket you need to get on the R5 Manresa train and get off at Aeri de Montserrat (Only if you got the ticket which includes the cable car as I did).
Once you reach Aeri De Montserrat, you will then grab the cable car from there to the monastery, I think cable cars arrive every 10 minutes and the last one down is 7:00 pm.
Once you arrive at the Monastery, go and visit the Black Modana in the Basilica, have a walk around and from there you can go for a hike to one of the viewpoints and enjoy the scenery from there.
If you’re going to hike the mountain, make sure to eat something before, bring water and also a power bank just in case.
