In traditional djembe solo and djembe rhythms, there are many differents styles and types. There are binary, ternary 1, ternary 2 rhythms, Dununba rhythms, Zaouli rhythms, and more.
Each category of rhythm has its own individual solo style. It is important to first understand the Dunun melody, and where they rhythm came from, or what is the style of the region where the rhythm came from. Then we can apply the appropriate solo style to it.
Once we understand the foundation of this solo style, then we can add on our own improvisation on it, which will then become a relevant expression.
