Nous avons fait une excursion à la journée avec Blueswimmer Adventures en canoe dans la baie de Lan Ha. Dès le début, nous avons été agréablement surpris par l'accueil qui nous était réservé. Tout était prévu: les sacs étanches pour nos affaires, des bouteilles d'eau et un encas pour 10h... Nous sommes partis avec notre guide à l'heure prévue, nous avons commencé par traverser les villages flottants (piscicultures) avant de rejoindre la baie et ses magnifiques passages dans la roche. Nous avons fait halte à 10h sur une superbe crique isolée puis nous avons repris notre route jusqu'à 12h où nous nous sommes arrêtés sur une magnifique plage pour déjeuner et nous reposer jusqu'à 14h. La journée était assez intense mais nous avons vraiment eu un temps magnifique et un guide super qui a su nous rendre la journée inoubliable! Je ne saurai que trop recommander cette agence qui sait vous faire voir la baie de Lan Ha sous son plus beau jour et surtout loin du tourisme de masse!

Kayaking is just an amazing way to see Lan Ha bay

Here is a longer video of our kayaking excursion in Halong Bay, Vietnam. We stayed on Cat Ba Island and walked to Ben Beo Harbor and rented them from Blue Swimmer Adventures. They included a map, dry bag, spray skirt, and life jackets. We paid a little more than what some of the other operators offered but Blue Swimmer had the best gear and kayaks, which even had rudders on them. If you're on a tight budget or looking to experience Halong Bay on your own without having to take a "cattle boat" cruise this is a great alternative. We were able to get closer to the limestone karsts, paddle through sea caves, enjoy secluded beaches, and see the floating village without a guided tour. www.blueswimmeradventures.com

Lying south and east of Cat Ba Town, the 300-or-so karst islands and limestone outcrops of Lan Ha are just as beautiful as those of Halong Bay but feel more isolated and untouched, and have the additional attraction of numerous white-sand beaches. Sailing and kayak trips here are easily organised in Cat Ba Town. Geologically, Lan Ha is an extension of Halong Bay but sits in a different province. Around 200 species of fish, 500 species of mollusc, 400 species of arthropod (prawns, crabs) and numerous hard and soft corals live in the waters here, while larger marine animals in the area include seals and three species of dolphin. The bay's admission fee is normally incorporated into the cost of tours.

Located to the south of Halong Bay, Lan Ha Bay, home of Cat Ba Island, spreads over an area of more than 7,000 ha, of which 5,400 ha are under the management of Cat Ba National Park. You can visit Lan Ha Bay during a Halong Bay overnight cruise, or rent a boat and start your journey from Cat Ba Island. While the administrative boundaries place Lan Ha Bay within Hai Phong Province (not Quang Ninh Province, to which Halong Bay belongs), the similarity in its formations, with some 400 islets scattered over the area, means that locals and tourists alike mutually acknowledge it as a part of the vast Halong Bay zone. One of the best tour organisations on the green island. You can choose from all diverent adventures like kayak, rock climbing, deep water solo, stand up paddle, yoga, hiking a full day or half day version of a tour. It includes lunch on the boat and the scenic drive out in the bay. If you interested in more activities and staying for one or two nights with a tour they offer different versions and sleeping arrangements. Staying overnight on the wooden boat gives you the chance to maybe see flurescentic plancton when you swimming at nighttime in it. The overnight in the national Park area is a very nice and quiet set up to to relax and be in the ' green jungle'. Tours inlcude everything from pick up and drive to the harbour to harbour tickets, lunch. Your guides can and will share there knowledge with you and talk about history, culture and more. Lan Ha Bay has an area of more than 7,000 hectares with the spectacular beauty of about 400 large and dense islands, with many interesting shapes. Unlike Ha Long Bay, all the islands in Lan Ha Bay are covered with green trees, even though they are tiny islands.

Why Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba Island Having been traveling and guiding people for the last 15yrs in the area, I have seen how fast Halong Bay has been pursuing unsustainable development and wholesale commercial tourism. The bay is now over-used by nearly 200 mega "5-star" junks, which weave everyday through the well-worn mass tourism routes of the once emerald waters of the Tonkin Gulf. However, in the far southern end of Halong Bay, the forgotten National Park island of Cat Ba is awakening. With its sleepy Lan Ha Bay and a multitude of beaches, caves and jungle terrains, the island is starting to change but still remains largely wild and untouched. So we at Blue Swimmer Adventures decided to pursue low-impact eco-tourism to try and do our bit to keep the island's very special purity as long as possible by offering more green outdoor activities for nature lovers from around the world. Sometimes when travelling, you can feel like there's nothing you can do to stop the environmental destruction going on around you. It feels all too hard and you don't believe anything you will do will really matter or change anything. But eco-tourism in itself is a very new concept in Vietnam that needs your support to convince the authorities and other mega tourism operators that there is an alternative to McDonalds-style tourism. Once people see the value in our environment, they will do more to protect it, and that's where you can make a difference. I believe low-impact eco-tourism has the power to change the mindsets of business people greedily pursuing profits at any cost. I believe we can all make a difference and I invite you to join BlueSwimmer Adventures in spreading the word in northern Vietnam.
