I'm out solo mountain Trout fishing, catching crawfish, and foraging for mushrooms. This wild Trout catch & cook took me deep into the remote mountains of the NW, where I'll be spending the rest of summer fishing for Trout in the mountains while backpacking to mountain lakes...

I finally had the opportunity to try the "ole Dragonfly larve Leif trick." Within minutes 16" Rainbow, the first time I tried. Never even knew these opportunities existed for fishing with. Delicious trout, thank you Leif for "uncovering" this idea. Fish on baby!

Hey Leif, I live in Seattle, I hope to get over to Eastern Washington this summer and do some fishing, my dad used to take my twin brother and myself out to eastern Washington fishing in the 50's, 60's and 70's, sadly they're both gone now but I'm going to continue on and try to catch some rainbow trout which we all loved to catch and eat. We had a cabin on Lake Ki near Everett, my twin and I used to catch rainbow trout on the lake, then we'd race in to the cabin and my dad would instantly clean and cook the trout, I mean that was fresh fish! He would fry the tails and they were so delicious! So many great old memories of trout fishing, we used fly rods exclusively, I still have my original fly rod from the 60's and it's all I use. Thank you for revitalizing my interest in fishing again, I just can't wait to get out there again, it will bring back some sweet old memories, kind of bittersweet with them both gone. Thanks Leif for the escape from concrete hell here in Seattle.

every time i watch one of your videos it keeps pushing me mentally to go through my gear to get back out there! its working, just got me a powered kayak and back into fishing locally. im in my 40's and my wife isn't as passionate as me for the outdoors. kids are getting older so its solo missions for me but I'm getting back out there. Was all over the state as a kid, did 5 or 6 50 mile hikes, a 75 mile canoe trip up Diablo into roosevelt and back, even made it to eagle scout.

Regarding the cowboy coffee, if you boil it for a couple minutes, you can reduce the overall bitterness. The most efficient way I can I can imagine to achieve this with your setup would be to, lift it up as it foams up, and then set it back on the heat to foam up again, or if you can think of a way to get a boil where only half the pot is over heat and boiling, it will roll over on itself and you don’t have to do the lifting process :)

Quick tip to prevent a miserable fishing trip: when walking with a set up pole carry it behind you instead of pointing in front of you. You can’t poke the rod tip into a tree and break it if it’s behind you, which is one of the most common ways to break a rod tip.

Hi, maybe next time if you add a bit of cold water to your coffee it will cause the coffee grounds to sink to the bottom, I Wish I was there too to help you catch and eat those pesky trout and crayfish.

When you do cowboy coffee, when its done boiling add a small splash of cold water to the cup. The shock of the cold water will knock the grounds down to the bottom of the cup.

Steve Irwin runs through this man. He’s so kind to every animal and bug and all of nature around him. Not everyone would put the log back where they found it after catching bait or make sure their crawdads are comfortable. Love this man and his content

If you add a small amount of cold water to your coffer right after you turn the heat off, it will cause all of the grounds to settle to the bottom much faster and you can washe the grounds from the side of the pot in the process.

The craws are red in early spring because they’ve been buried in the rocks all winter. As the summer progresses, they get their typical brown/green with blueish that craws are known for.

When you see trout rising have you ever thought about using a clear teardrop fly bobber and either a gray hackle fly or a black ant with a small white wing. You can get the bobbers that you add a little water to for casting. You just cast them out and slowly real it back in. I have caught a lot of mountain trout using that method. Martin

hey a little tip is to pore a bit of cold water in your cowboy coffee and the coffee grounds should fall directly to the bottom

After letting your coffee sit for like 1 minute add a bit of cold water and it makes all the grounds sink to the bottom! Great video man!

Man, I wish we had mountain trout lakes like that here in KY. I'd never come home, lol. We have stocked fish in streams and lakes, but nothing remote like that. One of these days I'll have to make the pilgrimage out West for some true trout fishing and maybe some elk or mule deer hunting. Till then, these videos scratch the itch. Fish on, baby!
