A technical giant with the soul of an old black blues player from the south. He touches that guitar like a lover under the moon light and we all are blessed.
Mr. Lee Ritnour at his very best -- been a HUGE FAN since high school -- (1980's) - Thank you for the AWESOME reminder of what a truly phenominal musician Lee is on his own -- xxoo QT.
There are great musicians, then there are a few musicians a notch about greatness. It has been an absolute pleasure and blessing to have listened to Fourplay since 1991, when I was a freshman in High School!! I have developed my acumen for music, especially jazz because of Lee Ritenour, Bob James, Nathan East Harvey Mason, Larry Carlton and Chuck Loeb. However, Lee Ritenour and Bob Jame's incredible musicianship on the guitar and Keyboard continue to boggle my mind!!!
This was recorded in the late 1990s, and there was no HD back then. It looks like it was recorded on video instead of film. This is probably as good as the picture quality will ever get.
It is truly a rare ocassion to get all you favorite musicians onn stage at once - Fourplay is a EUPHORIC SENSATION for me! Thanx, Love, for posting thid phenominal recording of the very best in smooth jazz. xxoo sending u warm smiles* QT
Fantastic! Lee's guitar melody sounds to me like Dvorak from classic music. What a sophiscated combination of music as the band! This music video is one of top three I encountered in 2012.
some of my freinds are stuck on old rock and roll, like petty, allmans, zepplin, they no nuthin of great music like this,im so glad that back in 81 i was guided into jazz, thank god,ive been lucky to see people from miles to metheny,to this and so much more,i still thank those 2 ppl for guiding me,what a journey(another hasbeenband),even tho neal schon kix ass, anyway, thank u gods of jazzfor showing me the way
I happy to hear that I'm not the only person who thinks like this. I grew up in the 60's, listened to "oldies" when they were new.....70's where I discovered Steely Dan, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Chick Corea, and others. Listened to the music of the 80's and 90's and found some musical themes that were very good, bu, It seems the my musical tastes evolved over the years where other contemporaries stayed in the days gone by.
Addendum: I lived in Traverse City, MI from the early 70's to about 1984. In the late 70's Bob James bought a home in the area. He had a couple of children who attended Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, MI. I saw him three times in concert at Interlochen. Fantastic. At one of the concerts he introduced a new flautist that he had found in the Detroit area - Alexander Zonjic. Look this guy up for some more fantastic jazz flute.
Good guitar, whatever the brand. Lee is just awesome with this great group of musicians. Can't wait to see them perform in Holland on November 6th, 2011. Pity Lee won't be there. And a good time will be had by all anyway!
I remember when Rit was rated #4 in US session guitarists...behind Carlton, Dennis Brudmere and #1....Tommy Todesco. Always enjoyed LR’s playing - fluid, passionate yet tastful.
On the intro, Lee was channeling his fast-pick-octave-scales which he made famous in Strawberry Letter No. 23 guitar solo on the Bros Johnson famous Jackie Brown soundtrack from the 70's, a hot disco-funk-R/B-fusion track that everyone loves without knowing what its title is or means or who Shuggie Otis is or was in the day. Anyone know what I am alluding to?
I’ve been a huge fourplay fan for quite a while Larry Carlton and lee ritenour are both fantastic! Along with joe pass and pat martino and Wes Montgomery this is real music! I used to listen to metal or rock back in the seventies but no more this far surpasses that heavy metal crap I used to listen to
Lee must be if not THE best guitarist out there, among the top three, if you ever can rate guitarists. I personally rank Gary Moore as the best in the rockblues genre.
