This is the last leg of this adventure, which brings us to Burnett Heads. It was another 60 mile or so sail with the wind really picking up towards the end of the day.
Little Wing and I arrived with a bent spinnaker pole and the eye ripped out of the head of the spinnaker.
For me arrival was accompanied with mixed feelings. I felt a great joy and sense of achievement but it was tinged with a tiny bit of sadness that this amazing sail came to an end. Great learning experience voyage. Lots of tidbits to go into the experience log. Little Wing performs well in all conditions and you are learning what she needs from a sail configuration, balance and timing standpoint. Very worthwhile adventure with minimal carnage….👍

Greetings from the land of braais, boerewors and rugby nuts. I really enjoyed your videos of the solo sail back south.🙏 As the owner of a Samson C-Mist I have a real affinity for the Westsail 32 which is a similar design.

Another cracking sail by Little Wing ......... Winter is coming down under - any plans for some varnishing/tlc for Little Wing this time?

The list of boat jobs is so long and most of them are more critical than varnishing. So unfortunately varnishing is going to miss out again. She would look so good with her timberwork properly looked after but I need to focus on the important maintenance and improvements.

The windvane is a Fleming. This is an Australian built all stainless steel vane. Works a treat.

My 1977 Westsail 32 is on Long Island. How do yo singlehand reef?

I have a servo pendulum wind vane which does and excellent job of holding course for me whilst reefing. To keep things simple I use a traditional slab reefing system. It can be done with lashing the tiller and balancing the boat while sailing under the headsails and with the mainsail flogging but it is not as reliable, especially in a seaway.
