SOLO SAIL IN A KAKAK 50KM OFFSHORE AND CAMPING ON AN ISLAND

Sail 2 Spear

Setting out for my longest sail yet and furtherest from the mainland in a sailing kayak to a nearby Island. Like usual there's ups and downs and overcoming them is what makes trips like this challenging but worth it. Its not about the destination but the journey travelled although in this case the island has a pretty special feeling almost like its from the prehistoric period.
While the usual camping and spearfishing occurs there's a mix of fishing, goat searching, cooking (catch and cook) and filming footage for a guy who's developed his very own own special and unique anchor.
Enjoy and if so remember every thumbs up counts and drop me a comment or question I take time to answer everybody.

I 'invented' a camping kayak. It's an inflatable kayak that you can sleep in on the water. It has a canopy to keep you dry and is a fantastic way to explore places which you wouldn't normally have access to. In a lot of countries (Europe) you shouldn't 'wild camp' but you can camp on the water so it gets around certain laws. I have done some journeys where the river gets so narrow that it's not wide enough to paddle in. You have to push against the banks. Sometimes there are cattle in the fields and they come to have a look at you wading in the water. I can get the whole lot on the train so you can cover long distances and you don't have to worry about where you are going to stay when you get there. Just load up with food and off you go.

@@markjvairy So here are two separate systems. The yellow inflatable kayak is the one I'm talking about. It's about ten years old now and I am in the process of making a new version with state of the art pack-raft type kayak. I lived in London but I was recovering from a serious illness. So I could get this two seater kayak and all my camping gear on a train and go to the Norfolk Broads which is a network of medieval cutting and small lakes. I preferred to stay at the extremes because it's quieter and more fun. The other system is a more recent set-up. It's a pack-raft which fold up really small. The bike is a folding bike called a Brompton. They are hand made in London and are recognised as the best folding bike in the world. The idea is I can tootle off on the bike towing all my gear. I can then find a bit of water to cross or go wild camping right off the beaten track. Again I can get all this on a train or in a cab to cover the longer distances. I don't think RU-vid allow links in replies so I have put a space in which you will have to take out. It's not a video just an image. Remove the spaces between the two forward slashes. All the best Nige. https:/ /ibb.co/9gLgJSz

Love your Mods its no fun to have to work out the rudderlines underway in big wind. I have a TI so the back up rudder system with the waterski style rod steering would probably have to go to the front seat. I'm also a Spearo and would like to build a Haka box like you've got for my rail guns and kit. Are you guys using Rob Allen gear or do you have local gun makers? I spilt my time between the US and KZN South Africa. We mostly fish off Stealth Kayaks here which are fiberglass and tough enough for shorebreak landings. Your island hopping, camping fishing and spearo action are Living the Dream. Hobie should give you new craft to modify. I think the Spearo angle isn't one that many people exploit but one that I will eventually. Most Spearos can't afford to shell out for the craft. But what a Dream Craft you have rigged out there. You make it all work by hunting for your dinner and thus don't need to carry lots of food stores for even a few days out. Please keep making videos and if you would consider making one showing even more details of your Haka mod and some drawings we could screen shot that would be sweet. Kind regards, Rick Gutierrez

Thanks for tuning Rick and great hearing from a fellow minded adventurer I actually use a riffee euro 1300 aswell as a Picasso gun which is almost 25 years old . Recently I’ve just purchased a rabbitech 80cm roller gun which I’m so keen to try out and hunt some barramundi in dirty water with it Have tried rob Allen guns before but really love the riffee personally I’ve seen a lot of stealth crafts and they look awesome , maybe one day I’ll get one myself Not to sure hobie would gift me a kayak although it would be nice and help out , creating these adventures can be expensive with all the gear from cameras to boat to spearing gear but worth every cent ha ha Still trying different haka mods so once I find one I love I’ll def make one for ya Thanks again for tuning in and always love feedback and a general chat

Look a reef! Drag your anchor across it mate! Nothing is more important than making sure your life is easy.

The anchor is designed to do less damage then modern anchors , a normal anchor does a lot more damage hence why I support this product , would you rather drag a normal anchor that tears the reef apart ?

I wasn’t impressed at the way the anchor scraped and destroyed the coral- not very good example of proper conservation.

Understand your concern , I do support this invention as Ive seen what normal anchors can do to coral and the reef and this option has much less impact with less damage, realistically any anchoring system is gunna do some short term damage ,

Might wanna check with hobie on that one ☝️, does a sailboat stop becoming a sailboat because it’s trimaran ? No it’s still classed as a sailboat

Too bad, people want a near death experience or they think it's not entertaining. I bet they never just spent an evening enjoying a sunset.

Are you going to personally pay for Air Sea Rescue that you will undoubtedly need one day? It all looks like fun under the sun - until it isn’t. Really irresponsible.

Actually I’ve lived and worked on the ocean for 25 years and had a lot of close calls including being charged by a shark and almost drowning , I know the risks and carry a lot of safety , irresponsible would be doing what I do with no idea or no gear and Yes I would pay for the rescue if that day comes. I choose to live my life on the ocean living it , not behind a keyboard 😉
