First night out in my Jack Wolfskin Gossamer 1 bivvy tent, which I picked up from eBay for just £80. I took it for a summit wild camp on Fan Frynych, Bannau Brycheiniog, after walking underneath the beautiful Craig Cerrig-gleisiad. A good night of high winds and heavy rain to test my latest used tent, and as you can see in the video, it's superb.

In 1997 I bought a Gossamer, when it was still Eureka, for the Cambrian Way. First leg goes through the Black Mountains and we decided to do a last camp on the summit of Waun Fach before going into the Beacons. That night a summer gale past over us. I've never been more scared but the Gossamer held up, not a drop inside the tent (I even managed to cook in it) It has been a faithful companion for years and although it is spend I can't chuck it away 😁

Thanks for sharing! That's the story I always hear about this tent: utterly waterproof, will survive pretty much any storm and a real faithful travelling companion!

Had a gossamer tent years ago, excellent for stealth camping. Some great photos from one of my fav trig points. I always chuckle up there thinking of the masses on Pen y Fan wandering up and me having the space to my self.

Thanks. Didn't see a soul. Would have liked a slightly better morning to do some proper timelapses, but the views were still great.

Well done, Kev. I'd never heard of this tent until you told me about it, and what an interesting thing it is! Loved the area you camped in, and in particular the timelapse while you were packing the tent down, with the clouds whisping around. I bet that tent can handle some major windage! Good stuff 👍

Thanks. It gets lots of really positive reviews from people who've used it in all weathers. It was pretty windy on this camp and I felt totally secure in it. The location was well worth the reputation, and really accessible as well. I might well return to this general area again.

@@joinmeoutdoors there is one spot a really short distance North that could be a potential great pitch, a little standalone lump right on the edge... Didn't have time to check it out but will get back at some point.

Nice tent, seemed spacious somehow! Fabulous video of clouds on different levels, it's quite beautiful up there isn't it.

It's such a lovely spot. For a tent so compact it is surprisingly spacious inside, just really hard to move about as it is so low! I'll take it out again at some point...

Kev an enjoyable watch 👍 Crystal clear video as everything looked so lush and green. Excellent panoramic views but I was trying to work out exactly where you were pitched. There's nothing better than laying under canvas so to speak when it's raining. You have all summer to get your fitness level up. Until your next adventure atb Taff 🤠👊

Thanks Taff. I was pitched on Fan Frynych, north of the trig point and towards the edge facing Pen y Fan. I had a wonder around to find a decent patch of grass, but didn't want to spend too long looking as it was getting dark! I just wanted the Pen y Fan views really!

It's not tall! The Jack Wolfskin website should have specs for it. I've sold it on now.

Hi Kev, i have one off these with a bit of thought you can pitch it inner and outer together. Keeps the inner dry when raining.

I think you could use the velcro to attach the outer before pitching?

@@TheWalkingKev Yes i attach the velcro and loop the inner and outer corners together, then when you lay it all out you can peg out the corner then feed the pole through and re adjust.

@@steveproud2893 thanks Steve, I'll definitely give that a go next time as that could definitely help if it's raining. It's a really solid little tent and I'm really pleased with the impulse purchase so far!
