Solo WINTER CAMPING - Total Solitude in the Most Remote Area of the Lake District 

You could tell you loved this camp Dave..and at the end of the day, that's all that matters..We've run out of superlatives to describe these videos you are putting out. This had everything, atmosphere, solitude, stunning scenery and you being in total control. As always, you happily explain your thoughts to us and point out landmarks and surroundings. Home from work, brew and toast, swerve the news. Sat down to this wonderful hour in the lakes with Dave. Thanks for this one, you ended the year on a high. Stealthy Solo Summiteer and the Top Guns - great 🎄👍👏👏👏👏

Hi Dave, great meeting you on my way up through Eskdale as you made your way down. Found a great pitch around the area we chatted about; specracular views and a stunning sunset. Came down Saturday afternoon to find the road to Eskdale Green and beyond was covered in 1 to 2 inches of the smoothest, shinyest, most polished ice I'd ever seen in my life. Overnight "freezing" rain had fallen and hit the sub-zero surface, freezing instantly. Had to strap on my crampons just to walk along the road. Tried driving out but even the winter tyres were useless on the slightest icy incline! Had to stay the night in The Boot Inn followed by a night in the car Sunday night (Boot Inn closed for accom Sundays and Mondays). Fortunately I'd packed extra food, tea, milk and gaz for the stove for such an event - it was actually fun, while l spent the hours listening to the radio and reading my book: always be prepared as the moto goes. A good thaw and plenty of overnight rain allowed me to "breakout" Monday morning. All the Best for 2023 Dave and keep those inspirational videos coming. I cannot add to the comments about how wonderful this video is, and the top quality an effort they put into them. Dave. Here I am at home, huddled next to the radiator, and yet taken to a more wonderful place in the Lake District amidst such beautiful scenery. So many thanks Dave for your efforts in getting out there to get the footage and editing it so professionally. I have spent a lifetime, and I am now 71, fascinated with aeroplanes and watch the progress of warplanes over there many decades. F 35 is a remarkable warplane with technology of the highest order, and to have the experience of sweeping through the snowcapped mountains of the Lake District must be an unbelievable experience. However, it is a war plane, designed to shoot bomb, and destroy, that is its purpose. Although we have had a number of decades with relative peace, the war in Ukraine just shows the sheer insanity of what can happen when these things get out of hand. Keep in mind that each of these warplanes cost £80 million each! So I view the sight of these planes as a scientific marvel, but as a social and humanitarian disaster that we have to have them exist at all.

38:45 - doesn’t look real mate, you and the Allak look superimposed! Agree with all the comments, this looks like a special camp, outrageous conditions. Wish I could have got away from work that week. Funny, I watched your Great End video this morning which had a couple of Jets on - this one was special though! Did that last jet dip his wings to say hello? So everything amazing - except one thing…. You make half cups of teas like my dad! I need the full mug (even if the last mouthfuls are cold!). Well, that was a real unexpected treat, Dave, thank you for sharing it. You couldn't know it but that is my favourite walk in West Cumbria - I've lost count of the number of times I've sat on the summits of Border End and the neighbouring Hard Knott in all seasons and in all weathers, just drinking in that view, both just out for the day or camping. Love that broad ridge beyond the summit, though it's a good job it's wide and grassy as I'd be forever falling over my feet through gawping at the view ahead of the Scafells! Super drone footage and that lovely morning shot of the cotton wool covering the Scafells. That quality of silence is not something you get very often, even in the hills. We live in a world of noise, so when it happens, it's quite special not to hear a manmade sound or even the wind. And I'd call 25 hours on your own ideal... as you said, solitude at its finest. You're right about the spikes though. At this time of year, that path dropping down parallel to the beck doesn't really get much sun in winter and even without snow on the tops, it can be pretty icy and the last bit down to Lingcove Bridge down past the waterfall can be pretty slimy and slippery even in summer. And as for the Bounty... love 'em but really, Dave... it has to be dark chocolate! 🤣

Tremendous thank you! On dehydrated food have you tried TentMeals? They’re 800 calories but cost around £6. You heat them in your pan, not in the insulated sachet, or you can hydrate them in a few hours without having a cooker/gas with you. I think they’re great, and they have a delicious range of plant-based meals as well.

What do I think, I think it's bloody awesome Dave, that's what I think. The red base layer you're wearing, do you change out of that at camp and back on next day or leave it on, I always have to change cos I'm a sweaty bustard!. One last thing, the tent, which is it and would I get border collie in with me. Thanks pal, you are definitely the number 1 for nicest camps

Loving the videos, not only inspiring but has now helped me convince my wife that some wild camping will do me good, I've taken notes on some of the gear that you use and will be investing in an Allak 2 shortly, will get a few nights under the belt before taking my 10 year old Labrador along with me, lucky to have moved north to Aberdeen after a few years in NZ - best camping moment was when the wife fell off the bed like a mummy in her sleeping bag - a cartoon like cry followed by laughter, aching sides and a woken camp site! keep up the great work!

It's been a while since I've watched one of your films but boy was it worth the wait. 2022 was an interesting year for me, was diagnosed with a frozen shoulder but I'm slowly on the mend. I love the Lakeland fells and spent many a happy night camping on them back in the day before youtube was around. I am always amused when those small hills are called '' Mountains'' the problem being there is no universal classification between a hill and a mountain. For instance the walk to Everest base camp involves walking at heights of 11- 12,000 ft for days before you get to the actual Mountains. The highest peak in England is Scarfell at just 3,210 ft. There really needs to be a world wide system of '' Mountain'' grading. Just a thought. 🙂

Dave, I think the planes start at the Mach Loop in Wales and then hit the Lakes on low flying exercise. If you enjoy planes get off to the loop, (you can camp) you will not be disappointed.

Your videos are always awesome, but this one felt a little different somehow, that's a compliment btw, you was definitely at the top of your game in this, I can only admire your accomplishments 🤜. The R.A.F. seemed to of put on a show for you, I'm sure they knew you was there, and what a sight that must of been for you to enjoy in the morning....WOW!!... On another note, I can certainly understand your logic, who wants to spend hours in a tent, we can take the rain, wind, cold and snow, but my way of thinking is, I think most don't like winter camps because of the long nights, what is the point if you can't appreciate your surroundings and see what we all like to see....the views and the natural beauty of mother nature, the mountains, woods or even if just camped on a beach, so I totally agree with you!! I don't always get to comment or like your vids as watch majority of them on telly where there is no where to comment, but believe me when I say I thoroughly enjoy your camping trips, brilliant photography and drone shots. And mountains/lake district looks awesome on the bigger screen. Excellent vids, especially Winter camp ones. Love the jets too!! Thought it time to open laptop so I could say all this.
