In this video, I will be heading up to a lesser-known part of Pennsylvania for some Solo Winter Hammock Camping. We will be heading to a Wilderness Area known as the Square Timber Wild Area. From my research, I have found that this wilderness area is very remote and secluded. I will be flying solo for this adventure and it will be a good opportunity to test out some winter hammock camping gear in preparation for some more challenging trips.

Beautiful area for a trip. I’m surprised the creeks were dry. Thanks for the shout out. It is great when you take out your bear lime and it doesn’t tangle. lol. So much easier. That little nightcore light looked pretty cool. Really good Astro shots! What tripod is that? Looked like a really great trip! 👍

The creek thing was different for sure. The creeks kept going underground, haven't really seen that other places. That bear line tip is legit! Haha the tripod is Amazon basics 50 inch camera tripod. I've taken it on a bunch of shorter trips with me. It's very stable and great for when you want to shoot alot around camp.

I love winter trips. I just finished an overnight earlier in the week. Got a good dusting of Snow too. Love the mountain man beard. I always remember to dress for mile two when winter backpacking. Start cold because you'll warm up fast. Try out some fishnet base layers for winter backpacking, you'll never go back. Good stuff and yes lower mileage and longer camp time for winter trips.

Winter trips can definitely be fun. You really need a fire for entertainment/warmth though when it's getting dark at 5pm lol. I want to be out in some snow this year. Really don't have experience with that.

@@HikeIntoTheSunset Perhaps we can partner up. I know some great spots to snow shoe etc. As long as we have the right gear we're golden. You seem to have good gear! I can bring my saw and Bushcrafting knife and we can make a decent fire.

800,000 calorie lasagna. Good luck. 😂😂😂 Was thinking maybe that size is for a kid or a small lunch. Haha. Great video. Cool to see a winter trip!

Good to see some new content from you. I have car camped in areas near Hammersly but have never explored it much. Right now I’m at home, laid up with three broken toes and a severely bruised foot. Fortunately I have RU-vidrs like yourself to take me outdoors while I recuperate. Thanks, Derek !! You need to get Elliott out in the winter. Somehow I think he would provide some good interaction and entertainment value. Have a Merry Christmas.

Wow, hopefully your foot heal up quickly for you. I don't do well being laid up sick or injured haha. I'd like to get him out and winter is off season from his sports activities. I don't have enough gear to cover him for winter temps so I have been thinking of doing a winter shelter camping trip with him. Probably still would need to get better sleeping pads.

Thanks for watching, it was a really nice area. I sure it would be really nice in the spring/summer. The Rd I parked on is supposed to have a bunch of nice vistas along the Rd.

Thanks for watching. This was a good winter warm up trip, temps weren't bad at all. Haven't got to the oppressive cold yet. Fun tunes! Haha

I'd love to make it up to the white/green mountains sometimes for sure. You guys have so much good wilderness plus I believe the high peaks also. I've noticed camping is much more regulated though when I've gone to NY. That's what I love about pa, as long as your in a state forest and only stay one night you can camp pretty much anywhere.

Whites are the harder of the two awesome ranges. Green is breathtakingly beautiful (and wet). There's remote stays you can find but typically I've found myself around a designated AMC spot. Thanks for the video. I've been contemplating switching to a hammock over a Copper Spur UL3 but the 3.3 lbs to have the safety net of a waterproof tent isn't too bad!

Great trip, Derek! I’m still trying to get that sub freezing overnighter in this year. What’s your trail goals for next year?
@HikeIntoTheSunset
@HikeIntoTheSunset 8 месяцев назад
I don't have any real specific goals yet. May try to dial my gear in a bit more for some higher mileage trips next year. Most places I'd like to go outside of pa are national forests and I don't know specifics of the new regulations. Are they really Going after small creaters for filming youtube videos?

Love the videos you make!! On this one do you recall what road you parked off at the kiosk? Very interested to recreate your adventure. Thanks
@HikeIntoTheSunset
@HikeIntoTheSunset 8 месяцев назад
Sure do. I was on Ridge road, just turn onto Grove hill Rd from route 120 and it will eventually turn into Ridge Rd. The kiosk I parked at I believe was at the beginning of pepper hill trail. If you look at the dcnr map you will see it. It the brooks run division map. www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateForests/FindAForest/Elk/Pages/Maps.aspx Thanks for watching.
