I'm never watching another Tony Khan interview. I'll watch the clips. I didn't watch this busted open one because I checked the comments first. Everyone confirmed to not watch it because it was a typical TK interview. Filibuster the entire time and never answer a question.

Maybe if AEW acted more like a wrestling company and less like a blood sport. A little more story line and a little less blood and guts and gasoline and other dumb gimmick crap.

I lasted like 8 minutes watching that interview and turned it off. I’d imagine the most painful submission hold in wrestling might well be trying to have a conversation with Tony Khan for 45 minutes.

Tony will never be honest. He's a lot more like Vince than he would like to think. Except for all his flaws Vince understood at his core what would sell. As long as his niche fellow internet/indy wrestling fans are satisfied, Tony is, too, which is why AEW will never be a true competitor. It will always be a niche product that got on TV somehow.

Interviewing him seems like a complete and utter waste of time. He'll dodge any and all questions and proceed to hype upcoming events. There's nothing inherently wrong with promoting your product but you have to give the interviewer something interesting to work with. Tony will say "Well that's a great question." and then proceed to say anything besides giving a direct response.

Tony Khan is so insufferable. He hasn't truely accomplished anything and doesn't have anything regarding AEW to be truely proud off. He didn't organically grow a wrestling buisness. He used his seemingly bottomless pockets to cosplay as a successful company. He just spent money to look like a successful company and didn't have to worry about it actually being successful. They didn't get their first TV deal or Toy deal or Game deal by hard work and proving themselves. They had those deals immediately by spending money and acted like they were a proven and successful company. AEW didn't grow their audience and prove themselves a force in television. They did the opposite. They were on TV immediately with a good size audience that has diminished year over year at a double digit percentage. Their ability to keep spending despite loosing money has allowed them to succed purely by just sticking around long enough to see the state of cable tv deminsh to levels so bad that even AEWs declining numbers have become valuable. That situation doesn't make Tony Khan a great creative and artistic success worthy of celebration and congratulations. Most start ups and entrepreneurs don't have the capital to survive that long without turning profit. Other promotors would need to actually grow their audience and their fanbase. He is being rewarded financially strictly because he already had money. Their numbers (attendance, ratings) are dropping at alarming rates and he is going to walk out on TV in a few weeks with a pompous grin to congratulate himself. By all measurable metrics AEW has done nothing but decline. The only blessing is that the subscription TV industry has been failing at an even steeper rate.

Imagine how much money AEW could have gotten if the product were still as good as it was in 2021-2022.

So, if the deal they signed initially with WBD was for 45mil a year, and now they are making 170mil a year, that's almost 4 times the amount. Which would be fine, except when you realize that in between then and now, they have also added a second 2 hour show, a single hour show, and 4 BOTB specials. It sounds like this is less an "increase" and more them being properly paid for all the extra content they agreed to make. I know you mentioned around 85mil a year towards the end, but that's still WAY too low for what they are providing. No wonder they are 150mil in the hole.

I watched about 5 mins and turned it off because its just the typical Tony Khan "interview" where he rambles and says everything is great and answers nothing I can see why Ariel Helwani got frustrated with him and called it the worst interview he's ever done because Tony doesn't answer anything he's just there to promote his shows which theres nothing wrong with that but you also gotta give your interviewer something to work with. He needs to have renee or someone else do his media for him because he's so bad at it.

Based on rumors AEW is also partly owned by WBD, they had a portion of AEW after the first deal and after this deal they have a bigger portion. Its very possible that WBD owns about 25% of AEW by now. So they are not that different than WCW

Tony has gotten in his own way by wearing too many hats and not letting somebody help him. Signing talent and booking PPVs he knocks out of the park, but he should let his grip loose a little on everything else and hire some writers to carry the weekly shows. As much as we hated it several years ago, budget cuts need to happen instead of wasting money. Ceratin talents need to know when it is time to walk away for awhile *cough* Jericho *cough*. This is possibly the greatest roster ever assembled so they could get hot again but we need writers and quality control to make sure everything makes sense. I do think The Bloodline story has ruined the way people take in wrestling, if its not a long drawn out story people wont call it a story, but AEW could do alot better at mapping a 3-6 month story itleast.

One thing I wonder is if AEW gets on Max will the stream finally go through with their b/r add-on charge of $9.99 on top of the subscription. They were suppose to in March but didn’t cause of issues. I think it was more of complaints that they were doing that. Than I heard they were gonna finally do it but no official word. I hope they don’t cause it’s ridiculous to do so. Even Paramount & NBC don’t do that with their streams. Just a subscription and you can watch sports as well. I think this whole add-on thing was a way to try and fix that debt WBD has

Tony Khan has zero obligation to go on a show where the hosts spend 99.9% of their time shitting on AEW and maybe 0.1% on WWE criticism. And sure, Tony is evasive in interviews, but so is Triple H. Remember "I haven't read the lawsuit?" and nobody following up with "Well did you read the WSJ article at least?" Let's not pretend the pendulum only swings one way. All wrestling journalists crave access and rarely ask tough questions for fear of losing that access. Ariel Helwani gave the softest of softball interviews to CM Punk, it's not like he only does it for Tony Khan.
