Soloshot recommends setting the tag at least 30 feet away from the camera and turning it on early to give it time to calibrate correctly. I just got my Soloshot 3 and am thankful for your creating this tutorial.
Thanks for taking the time. I order an Optic65 last month from B&H. They 'say' it should ship Nov 30th. Glad to see someone else from Co. bought into this. Good luck.
Thanks for the video. Informative. This company is very small to produce a technology like this. They should have sold the company to Sony or Canon when this idea was fresh.
I just got mine yesterday. Getting it updated now to try and use it. It looks like my Soloshot2 works better than the 3. I think they jumped the gun a bit on the new one. I just wanted the auto calibrate feature. My Soloshot2 worked really good. They are adding way to many other features. The auto edit could be eliminated all together. If you aren't willing to go through your video to edit it then you shouldn't be taking video in the first place. I will be testing mine out today. Maybe all the bugs are worked out by now.
great video mate.... much appreciated. I tried to use mine yesterday for the first time on the beach for surfing, had my dad wear the tag as i wanted to learn how to use the ss3 and to see if it worked................. and ........ IT DIDNT!!!! i tried for over an hour to get it to work switched it on and off 5 or 6 times and had the exact same result after a long drawn out calibration process each time it would find the tag dad was wearing 300m away and then it would point down at the sand on the beach and claim it was tracking and start recording.... So i have some wonderfully clear footage of grains of sand.... definitely unhappy and disappointed with the product thus far. I also couldnt see the auto zoom function on the ss3 working at all. which is important for surfing which is the sole reason i got it. I ordered mine november 2015 and asked if the could send me a tripod or memory card as a thanks for being a loyal pre-order customer and got a cheap hat and 2 dollar water bottle. Soloshots support team takes up to a week to get back to you with any issues you might be having and their FAQ section is almost unhelpful. I tried using the zoom function on the touch screen and it was so unbelievably buggy and laggy that it was pointless to even try. I did manage to get my dad directly in the zoom cross hairs and when i hit resume tracking the camera angle straight down to the sand again. On a final note the fact that soloshot doesnt include the lock for the camera to the base is disgusting. Having to fork out more money for a product that to date is not working as advertised is just wrong. The lock should be included because obviously for most ss3 users they are going to be away from the base and keep the camera and base attached is important.
I ordered my Soloshot with 3 tags. I did my first test with two of them. I saw that it maybe had the potential to fulfill the promises they made about choosing between the tags, and adjusting the frame, etc. But it was unusably erratic for me. Anyone else test with multiple tags?
You have to give the people who made and came up with this camera the benefit of the doubt that it takes a lot of brains to make one and yes there might be some kinks
I just watched the Pixio tutorial. It was definitely interesting. Though I wonder how long would it take to set up the 3 remote sensors on buoys for surfing shots? How many hazard cones would I need to set up around the 3 remote sensors for skiing shots? And would weather balloons be a good way to position the 3 remote sensors for RC aircraft shots?
No, I dont think you need to be that far away. I've had good luck with 20-25. I like to do the following in this order...turn on tag, wait for tag to show a good gps signal, while I'm waiting i set up the tripod and mount the camera, once the tag has a good signal, set it down out in front of the ss, something like 20-25 feet, then turn on SS, make sure the tag is being tracked and that it shows up on the ss, then start tracking, that will initiate the calibration once calibration is done it automatically starts recording and tracking, pick up the tag and walk back and forth in front of ss a couple times and then start your session. Ensure that the green light on the front is a steady blink and very bright, you can see this light outwards of 1000' If your loose the light, its not tracking you anymore. If do loose a track, walking back by the camera lens seems to get it back on track. Following these step in this order has been very successful for me. I used it the other day out to 1649' and it did great.
I got mine but I can’t get it to track me. I was out in the yard at the house but I guess I need to be in a bigger field which kind of sucks. Looks like I am doing everything else right. Just keeps reading ‘poor gps signal’ Have you tried it in your yard?
No, it actually seems to take a few minutes to find a signal. I dont know if you've watched any of the other clips I made about Soloshot. I've had mixed results. One day good tracking with just a few lost tracking times and then the other day it wouldn't do anything. I tried like 7 times and it would just stare off into a random direction and do nothing. So, more testing today.
I was having the same problem of POOR GPS SIGNAL with my tag, found that leaving it out open to the sky during the calibration process worked well and seems to resolve that issue.
