Welcome to the third episode of the cut kick solutions episode! Today, I'll be going over a technique called the "Moldova". My coach, Brian Singer and I were watching some matches from the Grand Prix and we noticed an athlete from Moldova fighting the cut kick quite well. Although the Moldova kick does not have a high success rate, it doesn't hurt to have this kick in your arsenal. Key points are:
Kick under a cut kick that is floating waist level or higher
Stay low! Get your entire body below the cutting leg.
Cover!
Tilt the head back!
For our next episode, we'll be going over a technique called "cancelling".
Million thanks to Tj Curry for helping us shoot this episode today and Richard Lee for the super supreme camera work!
If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about when I'm talking about P# and K#, you have to watch this video to understand:

Phillip hello !!! Sorry, I know a little English on why I communicate with the help of Google translator. I'm from Russia, Smolensk. I engaged in WTF taekwondo since 1995. was a member of the Russian national team, I am the master of sports. Now I work as a coach in the school of the Olympic reserve. I really like your channel, your technique Taekwondo, your charisma. You are a great master, I was watching your fights, they are gorgeous !!! Much of what you show on your channel I use in their training. And it's great when you can learn from the best athletes in spite of the distance, national and political views. Phillip, thank you for your work. Good luck and Development ...

Wow! Google translate did a wonderful job! Thank you for your wonderful comments. I would love to see your students train if you wouldn't mind uploading a video. Also, I'm very open to suggestions and feedback- about 50% of my content is from people telling me: "hey it would be cool if you talk about _______". I will also see if google translate is indeed good at translating English to Russian as it was good at Russian to English: Вау!

That is what we used to do with ITF players in the late '90 early '00... worked every time 😁😁 Nowadays players are more aware of that!!👍🥋

Just loving these videos! I'm definitely going to practice the 'Moldova' with my guys tomorrow. The obvious question, of course, is what do you do when the cut kick is below waist level? My guess is that you have to 'cancel' it, which is what your next video is about. I also noticed that in both of your videos dealing with the cut kick that you were in open stance. I guess in a closed stance, it would be the same 'Moldova' kick, but off the front leg, correct? If you're open to suggestions, I have an idea about a future video. What sort of techniques do you use to prepare competitors mentally?
@itsenzothephillip
@itsenzothephillip 8 лет назад
+djfee Thank you for watching! I will cover countering low floating cut kicks in later episodes. They are relatively easier to counter, since the knee of the cutting leg for a low floating cut kick doesn't act as a good shield for the cut kicker. You can cut the cut kicker above his low floating leg, any kicks to the face and etc. And yes! you are correct on using the front leg in closed stance. I actually forgot to cover that extra scenario in this episode. As for the mental training part, I like to teach that part in person during my seminars. I feel like the information is better delivered to the athletes that way.

Great technique, some of our guys use it all the time, especially the shorter ones ;)
@itsenzothephillip
@itsenzothephillip 8 лет назад
+Helgi Rafn Guðmundsson Yes! it really is an easier technique for the shorter fighter because it's easier to get under the cut kick.

Thanks for sharing these tips. Interesting way of dealing cut kick. It would be so easy to grab that leg or sweep, cut kick just exist because of WTF TKD rules. I think it's a very bad habit to use this kick in a fight elsewhere.

I think you missed something about the "Moldova" kick. It's rightly identified as eastern european because it exists in the repertoire of Systema's style. I think often these athletes are delivering a kick which is not only traveling on the horizontal axis but moving in and down towards the ground.

I usually wait until the cut fully extend and go for a 360 roundhouse. I'm short, so it also helps me close-in.
@randmc1986
@randmc1986 7 лет назад
This only works if the attacker isn't executing the cut very well - as in stopping his forward motion without actually having attempted the cut, or not extending the cut far enough due to not feeling strong enough at a distance. If the attacker is proficient you will most likely not be able to hit the hogu / hurt yourself / open yourself up to follow up axe to the head or worse. There is simply NO real technical solution against the cut kick as long as that shit is scoring and even scoring better than any other kick on the electronic systems. It's simple body mechanics really - it's the easiest, most far reaching, safest way to attack and also to defend - the all in one holy grail against everything and anything human feet have to offer as far as kicking goes (the only thing it doesn't do is ironically the very thing a kick SHOULD do - hurt your opponent; cutting only delays the fight, which is why scoring sensors from the balm + heel of the feet should finally be removed and back kicks should be scored manually) Only solution is to be better at cutting than your opponent, which is quite the stalemate and utterly boring at the highest level...

@itsenzothephillip

+Jake Maji (Olamikan) No. As the impact moves up the shin, the posterior crucial ligament starts getting strained. You can't train ligaments to get stronger.

With regard to the google translator, the Russian language it translates not as good as I would like. But I can understand. In addition, my wife knows the English language, it is the teacher. She says that the google translator is simply awful ... So I have a free translator.
