Thank you so much for making this video I have a ford F150 2013 with the 5.0 leader 4 wheel drive. And that's exactly what my truck started to do I don't know where to start and after watching your video. I'm now going to do exactly as you instructed. Thank you so much for posting this. You've saved me a lot of money, time and stress as a single Mom my vehicle is everything so thank you again.
Very thankful i found this video. I have a 2015 3.5 ecoboost and the same thing started happening today. My Initial thought was low oil then maybe sensor or possibly oil pump. Oil was good so I was going to change the sensor but found this video first. It was a bit of a pain to get to as mine is a 4x4 but was able to reach it topside and sprayed it with sensor cleaner and cleaned what I could with a qtip so far it’s been working hopefully it was the issue. Once again thank you
@@purgatory671 So the cleaning worked for a while maybe about a month. So I decided to change the oil pressure sensor with a Motorcraft one. Haven’t had any issues with it since. FYI the sensor is 8 dollars but if you decided to change it yourself know how far the sensor goes in. I over tightened mine broke the housing and had to pay 400 to replace the housing. In hindsight I would have just paid to replace the sensor.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!!!! You rock bro. All I did was get a can of degreaser and blasted the part without even taking it off. Haven't had the truck turn off on me or given me the Oil message in two days. Thanks again.
My 2011 F-150 with a 3.5 EcoBoost just started doing it last night at a low idle when stopped just like yours. I'm obviously going to start off by checking the oil level and the wire harness and if that is all good then I will proceed with a new motorcraft oil pressure sensor and some contact cleaner. Good video. Thanks for the info.
@@JoelG7.3 I changed out the oil pressure sensor with an original Ford motorcraft unit; cleaned out the oil from the electrical connector and it worked perfectly.
If your problem is just the warning light then this should fix it. But if you are really having low oil problems then it could be something else. We weren’t having any actual engine problems it was just oil on the sensors making it go crazy.
My 2012 F150 just started doing this Wednesday! Stopped on Thursday and doing it today! I’ll replace the part this weekend. I’ll be sure to use the cleaner also. Thanks for the advice guys. I’ll let you all next week if it’s fixed or not😊
Dirty contacts!! Is that all? Bro, I eventually just tuned mine out. It ding'ed idling, driving, whenever. Replaced sending unit, same as you. Still did it. We were going on like a full year of that shit! And guess what...it worked THANK YOU.
Man this saved my weekend. Low oil pressure warning came on at the boat ramp and through the power of youtube and this vid it was fixed 20 minutes later.
Replaced switch with a ford switch revision B. Says 6 PSI on it. Cleaned connector when I was in there. Didn't fix it. Gonna try a different oil filter. This started happening right after I changed my oil. Filter may have more restriction than the last one. Does it at 500RPM in drive but not ~600 RPM in neutral.
if it started after changing the oil, then doesnt sound like a dirty contact, or a sensor maybe.... Was it the oil filter, or did you replace the sending unit after all? maybe it didnt move the FOMOCO one on it?
@@bt8406 it stopped after a while but now after a few months i just replaced the spark plugs and coils and now the issue is back. i also had the oil changed but no ford filter.
Cleaned the terminal with DeOxit and put in a new MotorCraft oil switch and all is good. My oil pressure hot when checked with a master gauge was 25 psi. Ford mechanic friend called the corrosion on the terminal ‘fricking’ and says it is pretty common.
Great video. I had been dealing with this for about two years but it got progressively worse. I just took it into the shop today and they said that I had cracked the oil pressure sending unit and replaced it under warranty. This started within a few months of buying the truck though so who knows.
Broo!!! Your the only video I have seen that actually helped but I have a question for you, since you fixed this issue with the contact cleaner have you had any problem since and since it’s been a year since you mad the video did it fix your issue
This is happening to me as well. Everytime i hit a stop sign or light it goes off like mad, give it gas and fine but now does it while driving. I just changed my oil weeks ago too.
I have a 2019 f150 diesel and had a turbo oil leak diagnosed on a change of oil. Low oil pressure warning happened next day. I brought back truck for turbo repair and they could not fix warning. I bet oil from changing it or turbo leak messed up sensor. Headed out to buy sensor cleaner. Hope that works. Dealership was going to open engine up to get to oil pump on Monday.
This really worked for me. You're the best! Most importantly make sure to use the cleaner and make sure its no oil inside the connector!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!
Good video but I have found the after changing the part out 3 time in the last 2 years that just running a 40 weight oil instead of the recommended 5-20 and no more leaking sensor I believe the tolerance around the sensor it to loose and the 20 weight oil is simply to thin Forgot to add It's been 70000 mile now and not a drop of oil since switching to the 40w
I wish I could say your video fixed my issue…I eventually did try but no positive results. Ended up getting a new sending unit. Thank you for the suggestion though. Looks like it helped a lot of ppl!
I’ve got a similar situation going on but I believe it’s because I didn’t seat the oil dipstick properly. Oil prolly shorted that sensor out I bet! Thanks bro. 🤘
One important fact you left out was what the oil pressure gauge on the dashbooard showed - low, no, high, normal, etc. It looked normal from a distance, but if it was low or no then you might suspect a bad oil pump or clog somewhere.
I had the same issue for my ford 2013, and I bought the spray cleaner. Nd sprayed it all over the black cover nd cleaned it with quittips nd ran my truck for a while and no beeping sound thank goodness
Same problem on my 3.5l non turbo. First time it was like -10F and the low oil pressure warning went off about an hour from home. Scared the crap out of me. Pulled the truck over and listened to the motor, was quiet with no ticking like it was low on oil. Checked the oil level was fine so I drove it. Has gone off intermittently since but now is almost continuous. So i have to deal with it now. Also my hood latch is giving false alarms. Can't use the alarm system and it goes off constantly. Only thing I like about this 2017 F150 is the aluminum body. Stuff like this really sours me on Fords. Don't think I'll buy another Ford. Buffalo Rusty Salt belt is really hard on vehicles.
I had the same problem, all I did was changed gas stations and it quit doing it, since the price of gas went up I used a different station and it started doing it again. Buying my gas at conoco from now on.
Well, it seems like we all have the same problem with our Ford trucks. Mine is a 2012 F-150 5.0 214000 miles. I replaced mine with a Motocraft sending unit. It worked for about a week then started again. I read the comments and so many different fixes. One guy says he started buying gas at a different gas station and it fixed his. I think I am going to change the air pressure in my tires and see if that helps. I am just kidding but one guy said he cleaned his throttle body and that worked. I might try that and see if that helps. It might increase your rpms at idle, but mine does it even when my rpms are up. Who knows?
Mine did this when I was driving, like 60 mph down the road. It dings low oil pressure, then the wrench flashes on the screen and it loses power. The ford dealership said, well, sometimes we just can’t figure out what’s wrong with a truck 🤦🏻♀️
I did buy the sensor from Ford. I haven’t put it in yet due to lack of time. I did spray 1/2 can of carb cleaner around the sensor trying to see what size and how to get the connector off without breaking it ….so far the light has stayed off. I still intend on changing the pressure sensor when work slows down.
12/23/21: Merry Christmas from Orlando!🎄 Thanks a ton for posting this! Low oil pressure warning started this morning. Based on your video I went straight to the connector and cleaned it and the sensor…problem solved! Total cost: $0.00 (I liked and subscribed, thanks again.)
I changed my oil pressure censor but it's doing it now more than ever and that's while driving it. I just stop and shut it off, restart and it clears it. I will try cleaning the through body now.
Well I'll do this before I change the sensor and see how that goes. Mine started right after an oil change and since I wouldn't let him change my air filter he had an attitude. That makes me think he may have splashed some oil while changing the oil filter or something.
Do you have to remove the oil and sensor to clean the connectors? Or can you unplug the connector and clean it first without remove all the oil and sensor?
Just did this tonight added with a 10 mile drive hoping the relearn will accept the E-85 I’ve been dumping in the 5.0. Seems to have corrected itself 🫡
I dont have the 5.0 i have a 2012 f150 xlt 3.7 when i put it in D it idles really rough and then dies once it cuts off i get low oil pressure warning cut it off i can turn it back on but once i put it in D it dies again and gives me the same warning
I’m having the same issue, I replaced the oil pressure sensor with a cheaper aftermarket, watched your video and replaced it again with the motocraft one, still having the same issue. I think my next step is taking it to the shop.
I have this issue with mine and we changed the unit but I'm sure my husband used Duralast since he has a commercial account at AZ I'm sending him this video! I hope he does it and it stops! That digging drives me crazy!
@@JoelG7.3 it definitely is! Not to mention it scares me. I'm always afraid I'm gonna blow it up. I mean my husband would be ecstatic about it but I'd seriously cry. 🤣
I know this video's 2 years old. My pops own a 2013 Ford F-150 with the 6.2L. Recently the low oil pressure warning light came on. That's essentially the same issue with the 6.2L right? I just have to change out the oil pressure switch? I've checked all the basic stuff like oil leaks, checking for any engine knocking noise yet I found nothing. The truck recently had an oil change, so the oil is full. This morning the low-pressure light warning came on again while driving along I-15 going to Las Vegas. I've looked around the internet and so far, this is the closest oil pressure related video I can find for a 2013 Ford F-150 6.2L V8.
@@JoelG7.3 Figured it out. and correction on my dad's F-150 engine, it's got the 5.0L not the 6.2L, I was reading the wrong sticker under the hood that tells you the engine class. I was reading the A/C information sticker that for some reason had 6.2L engine written on it located on the top right side, not the white top left sticker on the left side. Glad I found your video.
I have a 14 F150 5.0 with 200+ miles.. and the oil pressure sensor comes on at idle. Basically, had the same symptoms. The warning came ON when on idle but if I shifted it to Park it would go away. Anyways, went down there and it was leaking so I decided to replace it with an OE part. Unfortunately, the same warning came ON more frequently. I don't know what the hell is going on! I made sure the connector was cleaned. I sprayed electronic cleaner and I even blew the connector with compressed air. Currently it's not leaking but the warning is most consistent and I don't know what it could be. If someone has any ideas that would be highly appreciated.
@@purgatory671 yeah man. So the update is that I changed the oil pan gasket. It’s reusable but mine was gone so I went to buy a new one. Put it on, torqued it down to specs, changed the oil pressure sensor and although the low pressure message came ON for like two days, after that it never came back ON. Idk if changing the oil pan gasket also helped or the computer just needed time to adjust for the new oil pressure sensor. But I haven’t seen the message ever since all that. Good luck my friend.
Figured this is what’s going on with mine. I’ve got a leak right there oils all over the plug. It hasn’t done it recently but I’m willing to bet this is the issue
My 2012 5.0 just stalled out twice this past weekend. Except it happened when I was going up a slight incline and the truck was articulating slightly and I had to put it in park and restart it. I literally had my oil changed last Wednesday at the dealer. Took it back had it all day today. Could not find an issue. Going to check that plug and possibly replace it just in to be on the safe side. Thank you for the info.
I had the same issue for months. Tried this and it didn't help. I also noticed that it seemed to be idling at lower RPMs, so I decided to look at the throttle body. It was horrible. Removed it and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner, reinstalled it, and never had an issue again. Now it idles at around 650rpm where it was idling around 500rpm before cleaning. The oil pump connects to the timing chain, so the lower the rpms, the slower it turns and the less oil it pumps. Maybe it was just idling too low to keep the oil pressure up because of the dirty throttle body.
what was the name of the part you added to it.? our truck oil light just came on.. and also the engine overtemp..🤦♀️ any idea if the engine light has to do with the oil light..?
2006, Lincoln Mark Lt was being driven one day 1.5 years ago and the oil light came on, and it stopped. It had to be towed. The mechanic / shop said cylinder 6 had no compression. I'm saying all of this because it is my bfs truck, a truck he loved, and I want to find a way to fix it but not sure if it really is a matter of an engine replacement? I know nothing about trucks or cars. I dont want to piss him off by asking random questions from what I read you know? Is there a way to do this without exceeding the value of it? It had over 200k when this happened.
started happening to me too, but only happens in the morning, when its cold, about 40F, so i thought it also has something to do with teh cold. that could speak of the contact, but i also banged on my instrument panel, thinking it was a cold solder joint, and was able to get it to move half way down, (and back) twice, without the warning light, so i thought for sure that meant it was the instrument cluster, which isnt cheap. how did you fix it?
@@bt8406 I haven’t yet haha. My wife’s 2011 explorer started doing it and I changed the oil pressure sensor and it’s gone. Was acting same as mine. Mine just comes once and a great while. I have the part, just haven’t changed yet. Haven’t had it in months
Joel G; Thanks for the video, it suddenly helped me a lot. So as not to bore all of you with the same story, my 2012 F150 3.5 Ecoboost truck was doing the same thing everyone mentions here. I'm running down the freeway and the LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT comes on. I went and bought the new Motorcraft oil sensor and installed it, I was driving around town and everything seemed to be ok until I jump on the freeway again and the warning light came on again. Now I wonder what to do. ?? Anyone Please Help.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@JoelG7.3 It seems that the new sending unit has fixed it for now. Only had the problem once after the unit was replaced and then it’s been fine ever since.
Just replaced this part yesterday, and still getting the low oil pressure reading at idle. I'm guessing I didn't clean the harness well enough. Going back in with q tips to clean it better. What a pain in the ass these are on 4x4.
I had the same thing on my 2012 f 150 I had a oil leak a the sending unit that I replaced with unit from oriels then started having oil light come on at stop signs for my truck I changed to 5/30 oil and got another sending unit from ford the hole on bottom of of ford unit was half the size of the one from parts store that stoped the oil pressure from dropping at stops
@@JoelG7.3oh okay thank you now I know what to do since I just changed the motor oil and added extra I need to do something with that sensor then thanks bro now I know how to deal wit it 👍🏿👍🏿
Which part needs to be cleaned the oil sensor? I didn't hear you say what the part was so I'm thinking I meant oil pump pressure sensor? What should I use to clean it,what fluid is best. I'm thinking electrical cleaner made by CRC.
Thanks for the video brotha, this shit had me perplexed for weeks now. I never thought to clean out the connection and I will definitely be trying that. I should of know to search RU-vid first before changing random parts.
I took it to a mechanic today...they said they couldn't get to it until Jun 28th.. which is fine - so i am going to try your resolution and will let you know. I have a 2013 F150 Lariat, 5.0 just turned 184,000 miles. This started over a year and a half ago. Two Ford service centers haven't been able to fix it. I'll let you know what i find out.
@@ThePreachaMane hey Andrew - unfortunately, no. Just two weekends ago, perfect opportunity to get the truck up on high wheel jacks. And I could maneuver under the truck and around the 4whl drive differential casing. I was able to pop off the cap and I dry up inside the sensor and used compressed air inside the cap. From underneath .. I walked my buddy who was on the top side blindly press the cap back in place. I got down the road and it started again🤦🏼♂️🤬… Any other suggestions? Let me know, thanks for checking.
Thanks for posting this video brother . I keep having the light on my 2013 Ford F-150 5.0 FX2 come on the same way as you. It’s not loosing power or doing anything else thank god. I guess I can pick up the contact cleaner at auto zone or something like that? As for the Ford brand part do I need to buy through Ford or can I also pick that up and auto zone type place?
Sometimes you just have to add oil this happened to me a year ago and i just change the oil and it fix it, and now its doing the same thing again i check the oil and it was fine next day did the same thing hopefully this video will solve the problem.!! Thanks bro
Did you say the oil pressure ding came on when you are at an idle when engine is up to operating temperature? Mine is doing that when I slow to an idle . THANKS
