Sharing my experiance with intermittent problem on my 2010 Pajero Sport / Montero Sport 2.5 liter 4D56 engine non VGT. I believed the same problem can occur on Triton and other DID diesel engine including Hilux and Navara.
Seems the issue came from one component called Suction Control Valve (SCV) which very common problem for DID diesel engine but not widely known by most people including car mechanics.
It seems quite hard to pin point the real root cause as when the problem happen, it will vanish once the car restart. Make it worse ss there is no engine management light triggered and can not be simply reproduced the same problem/symptoms.
My problem happen close to a year back where when pressing the gas paddle the engine failed to rev, for me seems the ECU went into "limb" mode. Fully pressing the gas paddle will not help. Strange thing was that no engine light turned on. The only working solution at that time was to restarting the engine which in my opinion reseted the ECU. Checked the engine error code using my OBD2 scanner and Mitsubishi own MUT did not show any error code.
For the past few months did few things e.g. changed new fuel filter during major service, replaced new battery, cleaned upper air intake manifold, Mitsubishi mechanics checked all the hoses and cables seem everthing looked fine. Note the mileage on this vehicle already 230K km and followed Mitsubishi 10k km service plan including major service plan till now.
Few days ago, the problem got worse as shown in the video. The car went into limb mode twice during my daily commute to the office, new symptom engine close to stalled during hard breaking. The next day, another new symptom poped up where the car stalled at the traffic light, hesitate to start, took me third attempt before the engine started properly.
Honestly rather than feeling upset, I felt pretty positive and this wad the actual moment I'm waiting for where now I get more new clues on the problem and much easier to pin point the actual root cause. Hope this video can help other DID Diesel owners whom having the same problem now ... Cheers :-) ...
