for the one with 3x in front, when you get to the part where you multiply by half... you said to simplify 1st....what did you mean? both the numerator and denominator or just the numerator like you did? i got to this point ----- 1/2x(3/8) how do I simplify this does the 2 go into the 8?
Completing The Square makes more sense (and is much easier) when you use, what Dr. James Tanton calls, the Quadrus Method (area model in conjunction with the Multiplicative Property of Equality), so you can avoid all those fractions.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a way to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
I love your style of tutoring Mr Whitt. I’m 69 and brushing up on my math to help grandchildren. When I was taught in the 60s we lived in fear of our teachers. Getting answers wrong in those days got you ridiculed and made to feel useless. They say every lesson can change a life, I’m sure your easy style of tutoring will inspire many kids to go on and do great things 👏👏👏
Thank you! After being out of school for 15 yrs, and now enrolled into college, I was SEVERELY struggling in Algebra. You have simplified it and explained it so well that even a simpleton like myself can understand it successfully, and now do this on my own! You rock :)
thank you Mr. Whitt, from a 55 yr. old attorney in nyc trying to become a mathlete on my own. I wish you had been one of my teachers at Bronx H.S. of Science in the late 1970s. God bless you and as we like to say in Calculus-land, don't drink and derive! lol.
Very nice David! Lol I would have loved coming 2 teach you in high school when I was 7. I'm sure I could have taught you a lot about math, life and Hot Wheels. Thanks 4 watching fellow "mathlete"!
Thank you Mr Whittington, after feeling like the math tutors at school were annoyed with me I thought I was going to fail my class. then I found your tutorials and I pretty much tune out in class now and just come home wacth your videos and return to class with a better understanding than any one else! you have truly helped me!
Mr. Whittington, you have a talent for clarity in your explanations. You also don't make things out to be more complicated than they actually are (which I see a lot with others). These are in my opinion, qualities of a great teacher...
Hi.. I am 68 years old this spring. I returned to college after 35 years. Your videos are the best. After a few examples I phase the video and tried to solve the next before continuing. Your videos are not only helping me pass my math course. They have sparked a new found Love for mathematics. I recommend your site to everyone at the University. I am a believer. Bill Trujillo
Mr. Larry Whittington, I wish you were doing this in 1977. I feared this stuff back then and my fear grew to anxiety which lead me to failure. I'm actually following this and enjoying it.
Words cant describe how much I appreciate this channel. Even when I think thats its impossible to understand certain things bc everyone around me does it makes me happy to know I can because of you thank you so much
All I have to say is, "You're Amazing!" Im following your tutoring lessons to the dot. Even though math is not my subject. You make it fun, and you explain it in layman's term. Thank you for doing this, Im sure many people are grateful for you!
You're incredibly powerful teacher, I am actually happy with your beautiful teaching experience, I don't know why they don't teach like this way in college, I am following your video every day thank you so much for your wonderful time.
These lessons helped me get to where I am now. I was able to get a B in college algebra. Now I'm moving on to Statistics and will be transferring to a University next semester. THANK YOU Mr. Whitt. I didn't think I was gonna make it.
I have searched lots of videos which were not helpful and I wanted to give up but you Mr whitt made me regain my interest thank you you're very helpful guy
Dear Mr. Whitt, Your teaching method is clear across all the sample problems. You have the touch to demystify the process steps. Thank You!!! I will order one of the Tee Shirts! Have a great day.
Can you do more of these type of videos ,I have a list ,building blocks that take me to the next level ,really like this format ,consolidating one method ,really clear
I never noticed before that you are left handed. I don`t know how I did not notice this. Thank you so much, by the way, for being of such great help in my understanding of Maths. Your efforts are much appreciated.
you have an amazing talent for teaching. i completely did not understand this concept prior to watching but i totally understand it after one watch. ive watched a handful of videos and none have compared to yours. you did not confuse me once and you explain it so confidently. Thank You! SUBSCRIBED!
Thank you, Now I can understand my College Algebra online class. You did many different Problems that help see how to solve. My professor only does two and then on the homework has problems we did not review. I am a step by step learner and need the to know the whys? to things or else I don't grasp!
I have been using your videos for the last month, (thank you too much, you have helped me tremendously) my husband always hears you videos. so today i was a little distracted talking about something else. He goes "are you DONE AND DONE!?" (are you done studying?) hahaha we like when you say that, and is our new phrase, we say it randomly during the day.
. . . oh dear, you are greatttt . . . so clear, quick, concise. . . you have been a huge help . . . thoroughly enjoy your personality as it adds value of your vids . . . God Bless . . . :)
Mr. Witt thank you so much for these videos they are really detailed and well explained. much better than my teacher. thank you. you have a new subscriber.
WOW! So simple! All those years I struggled with Algebra. Where was this 30 years ago? LOVE,LOVE,LOVE FBT! Thank you! PS: What kind of tablet and software do you use.
thank you, mr.whitt. Im study on ignitia and they always give me the easy example but then in homework or test they give me a lot harder questions.Thank you again.
You're a great teacher, I am passionately interested in studying this beautiful subject, thank you very much indeed for your awesome experience, and fantastic time.
Fort Bend Tutoring Thanks for your reply. I was wondering if, to practice solving these equations in this manner I can basically "make up" quadratic equations to solve, or will there be some that will not work, perhaps because the numbers (constants?)I would put in, would not really allow for a coherent equation. I understand that some will have solutions that are irrational numbers. Thanks!
Yes, the constants will make a huge difference and deter from your progress. You can find plenty of practice problems by searching for ["your math topic" worksheet with answers] on the Internet. You can also use the website www.IXL.com for free practice problems daily with or without a paid subscription.
I wish there was a to talk that wasn't so public. I don't need help with intergers, but thanks for the offer. From the being I was talk about problem #2. You said, "Take half of -2. That value is negative one and then I'll square that value so negative 1 times negative one is positive one and whatever I add to the left side of the equal sign I have to add to the right side of the equal sign to keep my equation balanced. Alright." Peace and Blessing, Sir.
Yes, you can send someone a "message" in RU-vid instead of a comment on a public video. Also, I have links to our FBT website which has an email address and there is also our Facebook page. In addition, we have paid online tutorials for students or individuals that would like one-on-one assistance building their math foundation. Have a blessed day Gina! I pray your concern was resolved.
Thank you so much! Tomorrow is my math exam and I have "problems" with solving Completing the Square and now I completely understand it :) btw your video is not boring like some math videos where there voice is monotone lol, yeah you doin good fam
Mr. Whit, I appreciate solving quadratics by completing the square, but can you demonstrate when the problem has a number (not a zero) on the right side of the equal sign? For example, x^2 + 18x + 81=1 or x^2 - 16x + 64=4?
Using your examples, you would begin by subtracting 1 from both sides of the equation first to set the equation equal to zero and follow the process in the video. In your second example, you begin by subtracting 4 from both sides of the equation.
Thank you bucketloads! I hate maths, but you make it much easier to follow and actually UNDERSTAND it. Also, give a hand to your intro man, (if it's not you...) he's hilarious! :D
Damn...last problem, off by an (i) oh boy am I a 'square'... haha This was most helpful. You students should be honored to be taught from such a well spoken teacher. GG sir will I am
