my friend has bought 2 of these to take one apart to see how it works. there is a metal rod in the back , and the magnets on the top and bottom are rods as well. you pull them both slowly, it pulls the rod up, and through an angled cut, releasing the locking mechanism the rod was part of. hence, the sound. when you close it, the rod is out of the post so quickly closing them peices pull the rod back into its post, locking it again. very simplistic in a complex manner. its insane to see such puzzles, and discovering how they work.

I have a theory! It might be that when Chris pushed the top and bottom pieces all the way, it kept a magnet engaged. But when he slid them *slowly* and simultaneously, it didn't re-engage the locking magnet; allowing the middle piece to come freely. Also explains the slight looseness of the piece when the top and bottom were all the way back; it was held back by a piece engaged by the top and bottom! Awesome video again Chris!

That's exactly what I was thinking but I also had another theory that the two top magnets were the same kind if magnets for instance south manget with a south magnets which creates the two magnets to push away from each other and then the middle magnets is the opposite magnet for instance north magnet attracts south manget. as the the 2 top ones slide away from the lid the middle magnet is attracting to the middle one of the lid. But when the two tops are not slided then the two magnets on the sliders makes the two magnets on the lid not attract but push away which I believe is the reason why he could pull the lid off little bit but not all the way. So when he slided the sliders the magnets on the lid as it sliding as while follows the two same magnets which makes it's easier for to slide it off!!!

DashiZle69 They certainly are contrasting styles. To the degree that a 'head-to-head' barely makes sense. What do you mean by that? A race to solve a puzzle? That could certainly be interesting. But even then, they have such different areas of interest it'd be hard to find a puzzle to use for the challenge. Interesting idea, though! I think both aren't too familiar with twisty puzzles? Maybe give them a 5x5 and a time limit, and see who gets most done?

Vark Ster yes something like that. Think it would be interesting to see how they both approach the same puzzle, given they have such different styles. I am sure that some puzzles require a more analytical mind and approach, whereas others that I have seen Chris solve you really have to think outside of the box. It is like giving a recipe to 2 people. You will get the same dish but they will not taste the same. The broken radio puzzle for example I found amazing as the solution is simple, but not something I would immediately think of.

I think each one of the magnets are moving a ball. Once the balls are moved sufficiently it unlocks and pop open. I think the speed is important because the magnet is week

I’m broke right now but even if I had to solve this puzzle for a million bucks without info on how and not remembering this video, I’d *_leaf_* in an instant. Even with my weak body, I’d rather *_box_* somebody even though I *_wood_* lose in the first *_tree_* rounds. Maybe I could be a little *_punny_* and tell a few jokes for some money since money doesn’t grow on *_trees_* _-I am so sorry-_ I hope you enjoyed.

Sir you made me lose my mind. You just made all orientations except up side down. I mean the side of the tree facing the ground and both hands holding the sides so you let the gravity pulls it out at the same time done. I just wanted you to do it but u didn't meh the puzzle feels boring the way you did it haha.
