✨Learn more about how somatic yoga can release physical and emotional tension from the hips, especially the psoas muscle (also known as our "fight-or-flight" muscle): www.yogawithrachelmarie.com/p...
Put simply, somatic yoga is about getting out of your head and into your body. When you apply somatic principles to your yoga practice, the focus is on finding what feels good in YOUR body. The focus is not on the end result (the pose), proper alignment, or mimicking exactly what the yoga instructor is doing on screen (unless that feels good in your body). Instead, you are invited to turn your attention inward allowing your sensations, feelings, or impulses to guide your movement. Your body becomes a compass, guiding you towards what feels good in your body.
Based on the feedback from your body, you may decide to stay in a posture longer, skip a movement that doesn’t resonate with you, adjust the pace of the movement, back out of a posture to stay in a range of motion that feels better in your body, and so on. While your instructor will provide guidance and variations, the practice is ultimately yours to tailor. This shows a deep level of love, compassion, and respect for your body.
You are invited to be a curious explorer on your mat. The beauty of somatic practices is that you’ll likely find that you take what you’ve discovered on your mat into your everyday life.
Finally, somatic practices can rewire habitual movement patterns that can lead to tension, discomfort, pain, and more. The more you show up on your mat for somatic movement practices, the more information your brain receives. This input can help create new movement patterns that are more functional and sustainable, leading to less pain, tension, and discomfort.
Although this class focuses on the hips, it’s really a somatic yoga experience for the whole body. Movement in one area, influences movement in another area. I invite you to keep that in mind as you move today.
Feel free to let me know how this class goes for you in the comments!
Sending lots of love to you.

Hey friends! How did this practice feel in your body? I love that somatic practices invite us to take stock of what's happening internally. It's a beautiful opportunity to explore a rhythm and pace that feels good in your body. During somatic practices, you are invited to use the feedback from the sensations within your body to guide your practice. This means that you can stay in a pose longer, opt out of a pose, explore breathing patterns that suit you, explore a pace that feels good, and so on. Somatic practices invite you to get out of your head and into your body. Thank you so much for being here today! Take care 🤗💕

Rachel, thank you so much! I appreciate what you're doing for us here. This class felt absolutely amazing. It was so slow, yet I completely disconnected from my thoughts and let my body just guide me for those 30 minutes. I'm feeling very calm and happy. Loved the voice over, I feel like it created an even slower atmosphere here. Hope you're having a good day

Hi Tristan 🤗 You're welcome! Thank you for sharing what you enjoyed from this hip opening class. I hope that your right hip feels better soon. You can explore directing your breath towards your hip to help soften and relax the muscles, which can hopefully help with any discomfort. The breath is a powerful tool for helping us find ease in the body. Thank you so much for being here!! Take good care 🙏😊
