Dr Sarno and You and Louise Hay are all angel’s on earth. I’m now able to walk chronic back pain free because of you great souls- It’s been so nice relaxing and letting all tge sensations leave my body. I’ve gone from my spine locking and not being able to even crawl to the toilet had to wear adult nappies and now two months in I’m back to my old swlf just occasional sensations travelling in my body- they’re now my friends saying hello. I’m no longer in a panic fight or flight mode. I’m forever greatful to you guys. Thank you soo much please keep sharing you’re wonderful work and wisdom x

I think this also works for generalized anxiety, generalized stress, rumination, worry and even fear of depression. “Go with it and accept it” and it will loosen its grip and pass.

What works even better for me with anxiety and negative self judgements is to send strong, direct messages to the amygdala on a consistent basis that it's no longer in control and to stop it! Dr Sarno terms it as 'talking to your brain' which is from the prefrontal cortex to the amygdala/reptilian brain. This signal needs to get stronger esp in us anxiety sufferers, and Jim talks about this signalling in some of his other recent videos. These somatic tracking and surrender exercises are then more powerful from that position of strength.

Yes, I’m having emotional releases of anger, frustration and fear- crying and screaming, it seems so weird to me to do this but I actually feel better after and my anxiety even goes down.

God, did I need to hear this tonight. Earlier tonight I was feeling sensations in my body and decided to sit with them . Instead of following your advice I found myself saying that what I was feeling was “bad.” Therefore, I thought I had to figure out how to fix it and to find out what was “wrong”…..after all there must be something wrong because I don’t like the feeling. This technique of yours is extremely challenging for me but it makes so much sense! My mind wants to analyze eveything which is preventing me from “being “ with, accepting and surrendering to what is.
@thepainpt

Yes analyzing can be a defense or distraction to the underlying feelings and accepting them as they come. Good awareness to see that in yourself!

Thanks Jim for another clarifying and helpful video.. ! I will apply this as much as possible! I literally feel the stress running through my body.(17 years of headaches and fibromyalgia). I think it will take a long time unwinding it all and getting out of this fight and flight mode. Hopefully not another 17 years 😜? Looking to your videos helps me to calm down, so thank you 🙏!

Yess Jim this was VERY helpful. Love all your content but this was especially practical guidance on how to actually invite the somatic experience. I’ve been dropping into a daily “awareness” half hour practice all year so perhaps that’s why this was an aha moment. I know to see thoughts emotions as experiences + not attach to these but our core beliefs / patterns just unconsciously draw us in till we become conscious. This video clip has given me the next step …to allow the stress to move through me like a river flowing …….now to practice this OUTSIDE of my structured daily half hour sitting in presence practice. Thank you.

In his book Alan Gordon breaks pain into two categories: he says if it is high then do whatever it takes to feel better, its ok to use avoidance techniques, to not even try to do somatic tracking (but also tell yourself it is just TMS). I.e use heat pads, lie down, whatever. But if the pain is medium-low then do somatic tracking. My question is: what you say here, surrendering, makes sense, but it also doesn't seem possible to do it all the time. Would you agree there are times when it is not feasible, but rather just try to do it as much as you can?
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 года назад
Yes agree with you and Alan. If it’s too much to handle and stay open to (window of tolerance) then doing other soothing stuff to get it to settle is fine. With surrender You are actually trying to soothe and settle and relax into what you feel so that you are activating the parasympathetic nervous system in the face of symptoms or uncomfortable sensations.

I’ve been suffering for 4 months with incredible jaw-tmj pain. A lot of neuropathic pain as well. I’ve tried everything to allow my brain to feel the sensation- allow- but I’m really struggling to find relief. I can’t get my body into the rest state with so much pain. I would love to see a meditation or something to guide me through this somatic surrendering.

This is very helpful. I healed myself of chronic pain and since then, I have been unable to sleep for 2.5 years. I get very uncomfortable energetic sensations in the legs that prevent me from sleep. The sensations run from moderate to extreme. Cold showers , throwing cold water on my face or standing outside in middle of night often gives me temporary relief/sleep. After watching this video, I wonder if I am better off trying to sit with sensations vs “chasing” them with cold showers thru out the night??

Hi Jim. What about when we are having extreme levels of sympathetic nervous system states- programs now are teaching to romantically move the energy through via movement. But I find it usually amps me and my symptoms up more. Would this also be something to just lay down and surrender to? Thank you for all you do- trying to get an appointment with you soon.

Do you also combine this with messaging to the amygdala that it's not in charge anymore and to knock it off as mentioned in your other video? Otherwise feeling is just a one sided process in a bottomless pit of sensation/emotion. That strong and consistent message to the brain is needed or else somatics just exist in a vacuum without the larger context, and without which the brain continues to discharge these emotions, pains and sensations to wreak havoc. Seeing through to the cause and stopping it at the source offers a truer surrender to a Higher Power, creativity, connection and expression
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 года назад
Yes good points all this! Lots of pieces to use. This one is about surrendering to your feelings from a place that these sensations are fine/ok- not dangerous. What has been produced by the brain is already produced into the body so can’t take it back- so surrender to it. you also want to feel emotions not suppress them since TMS is emotions coming out physically. But like you said also talk to the brain-soothe vs rage ratio of messages to get it to calm down settle down.
@TheMLMGold
@TheMLMGold 2 года назад
@@thepainpt I feel it's misleading to talk about somatic feeling without also talking about messaging the amygdala and limbic brain otherwise it's endless. For example, I watched your emotional and somatic tracking videos several months ago and it didn't shift anything until I saw the piece about messaging the emotional brain with clear, direct and firm signals that it's not in charge anymore and I won't take it. This has settled the brain down so there's less pain, more connection, creativity and sleep has improved somewhat. I couldn't have got this just from somatic tracking, it was only in combination with directing the brain that I saw an improvement. It's easy for someone to watch this video in isolation so that it becomes a stand alone practice and forgetting about the bigger picture of talking to the brain and sending the right signals. Orherwise we can get flooded esp. with pain and anxiety..I know you did a video about these 2 pieces recently so it would be good to continue this trend rather than talk about one without the other. People with chronic pain like myself need to be consistently reminded of the bigger picture and all the pieces of the puzzle.
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 года назад
@@TheMLMGold thanks for the feedback I agree with you 100% there’s different pieces here but yes the top down piece from communicating from your cortex to your amygdala that you are fine you’re OK is to be consistent clear and direct. Then with the somatic piece you’re just dealing with whatever has been produced by the brain without resisting or reacting to it. When I work with people one On one I go over all these different pieces and how we need to be doing all of them together
@noraa390

Cam you tell me what other videos he is mentioning here?
@TheMLMGold
@TheMLMGold Год назад
@@noraa390 It was the video about challenging the limbic brain somewhere in his video list. One thing that has helped me on this journey is that the brain generates anxiety and catastrophe all on its own and we're not doing it. So it's like a separate entity and when I see it in this way, it takes all the personalisation out of it. I can then negate it as 'not me' which discharges its energy and grip. Then I surrender to loving devotion, Psalms and inspired action. It works so try it out.

So Jim, I should just accept the symptoms for what they are and not freak out trying to push them away. Im on pain medication which dulls the symptoms a bit. So when the symptoms hit me hard , I need to acknowledge them and tell myself this is just my brain trying to protect me and I’m Ok?
@thepainpt
@thepainpt 2 года назад
Yes Larry do that also just start to acknowledge with emotional words the emotions you feel. Because a lot of chronic pain is emotional we don’t want to suppress or repress the actual symptoms or sensations they are usually emotions coming out you want to let them run their course
