Hi Paul. Middy's stated elastic rating is a guide, even elastic in itself varies, the traditional 16 size elastic was based around solid elastics of 1.6mm diameter and even that is confused with the introduction of hollows and hybrids. In addition because it is a guide it does not mean it totally relates to strength, so for example, more pressure would be able to be applied on an XK pole when using a 16 as compared to an XZ that is set up with a 16. It's all about the feel of the pole when playing fish. We asked Dale for an update on what elastics he uses with the XK, he said: • Margins and up to top 5/5m line 18-22 Blue Hollow Hi-Viz fish 5lbs + 20-24 Crimson Reactacore fish 10lbs + • 6 sections to 13m 12-16 Red Hollow Hi-Viz fish 5lbs + 14-18 Saturn Reactacore fish 10lbs + • 14.5m to 16m 12-16 Red Hollow Hi-Viz fish 5lbs + "On these elastics I can comfortably fish for big lumps on rigs of 0.18mm and 0.20mm mainline. Even though I'm quite heavy handed the XK55-3 sections cope beautifully especially under the elbow when I'm netting a fish or when a big carp or even a barbel decides to make a run on the elastic. The XK55-3 section for section is somewhat stronger than the XZ65-3 and this is why it's my pole of choice."

Love middy xk55 pole I had the mk 1 if spare sections were readily available and the kits fitted with side pullers I'd buy the mk 3 tomorrow.
