Some Applications of Cone Penetration Testing in Oil Sand Geotechnical Practice 

Dr. Assile Abou Diab, Geotechnical Engineer, WSP, presents her talk "Some Applications of Cone Penetration Testing in Oil Sand Geotechnical Practice".
Abstract: Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) has become a widely used site investigation tool. The presenter will first briefly introduce the background of CPT. Then she will share its application in a few oil sands projects, including the evaluation of liquefaction potential, characterization of tailings, and monitoring of the compaction effort.
Speaker Bio: Dr. Assile Abou Diab is a geotechnical engineer at WSP in Canada. She completed her PhD in geotechnical engineering at the American University of Beirut in 2017. Her thesis focused on soil reinforcement with fibers. In 2019, she moved to Canada where she pursued an MEng in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Alberta and joined WSP (via Wood PLC). She has been primarily involved in the design and monitoring of some oil sands projects in Alberta.
