Im a psych major but one thing I doubt myself sometimes is: do I really want to work with people? Can i handle that? I feel its a subject I really care about but some days with my own social anxieties I struggle to know if its what I really will love doing. However for me, even if I don’t love a career everyday, I believe if I care for it and it challenges me than thats what is most important.

hi there, thank you for your comment! i agree with you, having a job i care for that challenges me makes it all worthwhile! but also because we're human, it's important to understand our own comfort levels. i felt very similarly to you during my university years and it was only after i started seeing my own patients and working with people when i realized that i could do it and i wanted to do it! of course some days are more tough than others (as i also have social anxiety) so self-care is very important! best of luck! xo

@@ARon82 look youre not completelt wrong but damn your wording is excessively rude and aggressive for no reason lmao. Most people I know studying psych as a major (including myself) are planning on doing post grad studies to go into research, Neuroscience or clinical psychology. Most psych kids imo are aware of the fact that a bachelor's degree is pretty much useless (job wise anyways) In the country I live in most bachelor's degrees are pointless without post graduate studies, this is not just a psych thing so I'm not sure why you seem to be so angry about psych degrees

This helped a lot. Thank you. Parents and teachers don't really tell you and guide with this sort of thing. They only put more pressure on you to figure out what you want to do and tell you to do your research. But it's hard to do research when you don't even know where to what or what to look for! So having someone like you give a little guidance is super helpful. Thanks!

Yay! I love this video! I’m a junior in psychology and planning to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. I’ve been involved in research labs in diversity issues regarding mental health and providing resources to underrepresented communities. I love every moment of it. I’m currently working my honors thesis which has been so exciting, it’s really helped me realize that I want to go into psychology research as a carrier. Personally, I reallllly believe psychology majors should try to get involved in a research lab for at least a semester because labs usually offer so much information on future careers in psychology. Most universities have various labs that focus on different topics so you pick one that interests you the most!

I think it was God's way of telling me to just chillax and I gotcha because I chanced upon your video talking all about the things I was worrying about since I'm in 2nd year Psych. Thank you and thank you sooooo much for creating this video and just giving me more insight into this field which is so complex and diverse. It can definetely get stressful at times and I get lost in figuring out what I wanted to do in the future, with psych being so competitive, the future just looked bleaked. Truly thank you for this video, it really helped me gained a bit more understanding with what I could do in the future, knowing that someone else before me has stepped into it already!! Btw, your smile and your persona is so comforting and uplifting, would love to see more from you :)

Thank you for making this video! You seriously opened my eyes. I was accepted in an Australian uni (i am from Romania btw) in the Bachelor of Arts program where i am planning to major in psychology and criminology. I always thought that i would either be a criminologist or a psychologist, but when you mentioned that you worked as a social worker because you wanted to help people, and the fact that the social work masters focuses on privilege, oppression and social problems - i really felt like this is a career that i could see myself doing because i am also really passionate about these topics. Thank you one more time! :)

I had to withdraw from my university recently and I'm still out of school... buuuut I want to go for a BA in Psychology next time (my previous course was actually Media-related haha...) You see, I discovered at some point that although I have a passion for 'creating things', I didn't want to *study* for that. That led me to rethink my academic goals and in the process, I realised that I'm super interested in Psychology! After much research and deliberation, I've decided that I want to pursue a BA/BSc in it (preferably BA, but I'll go with whichever is more ideal in the end) and then a Master's in Educational Psychology- because I want to help people who struggle with learning and that sort of thing. I feel a strong connection with this because I myself seriously struggled in school when I was younger and my teachers and parents weren't able to help me (not their fault, they just didn't understand my situation very well 💖). So I'd like to help persons who face similar difficulties- not just children and young people, but anyone of any age who needs that extra help to discover and unleash their potential ✨🥺✨

So I was just looking around wondering if I should change my major or not? I don't know, I guess I also wanted to hear and outside experience: how is it working in psychology? I guess there are pros and cons about every career no? I don't know if I am getting ahead of myself for just listening to those comments about nursing (from nurses) idk

I was wondering though, in your experience w your social work program? Do they work with you to find and get certification? Or is it more of a separated thing from the graduate program? I'm a sophomore and I dont know if I should major in international relations to become a international lawyer or psychology that recently has gotten me interested in. I'm just so confused right now and don't know where to go for a career :/

I was confused between international relations and psychology too! I interviewed a few law and psychology students as well as graduates.... And even everyone agreed that psychology is better because law is very stressful and hard, you barely have time for a life and I want to be a mother so I don't want to be a lawyer anymore. But international law can be interesting! You can work at the UN or become a diplomat. I'm enrolling in Psychology soon. 💖

if anyone has any advice: i'm a high school junior extremely interested in studying film production or screenwriting, but i've also always been interested in psychology/social work. i've been looking into how to perhaps intersect those two passions and was wondering if anyone had any advise on how to do so if it's possible. thank you!

Hey, I am also in the exact same situation as you! I know that with a psychology degree you really have a lot of options of fields you can go into. I've thought about getting a master's degree in media psychology and from there you might be able to get into the film industry. You could also minor in something like film studies and that could help with getting into the industry as well I think. Lmk if you have any other ways to combine those two interests

most people who are planning to go into surgery/ med school get a bachelors in human physiology, human biology or something similar. but it truly doesn’t matter what you major in, as long as you are working on the prerequisites for med school. Another thing you can do is minor in psychology :)

I love Korea so much because of their culture, food, transportation, and all about Korea. So I hope you'll acknowledge so that I can prepare and aware of the things that I should do before going Korea.

@hi.yeonni

Hi there! Hmm I think it really would come down to your reasons for wanting to do a master's in psych vs. residency into psych! I suggest making a pros and cons list of both paths that include items like financial costs, day to day life, time, fulfillment, etc. Best of luck!✨

certainly, as she mentioned, Psychology can open lots of doors to other fields, and If your speaking of wether the field of psychology has a future or not? than without a doubt. It is already grown hugely and it is only going to grow further with the rising awareness and importance of mental health and increasing research.

What route would be the best to take if i want to work with children with mental disorders
@hi.yeonni
@hi.yeonni 5 лет назад
hi there! from what i know, you could take any of the mentioned routes to work with children with mental disorders, really! i know SWs, psych nurse practitioners, psychologists and other mental health professionals who work with that specific population. it would really all come down to specifically how you want to work with them! best of luck!
@BLoren
@BLoren 6 лет назад
Would love to hear more about what you do specifically! I'm really interested in working with victims of violent crimes, and would love to work with children and adolescents (think Law and Order SVU) but I have no idea what kind of jobs I could even get doing something like that. I'm in a CMHC program, so I'm hoping I can just figure it out as I go along. But would social work have been a better route? Sorry if this question is way too specific!
@hi.yeonni
@hi.yeonni 5 лет назад
hi there! no need to apologize for the specificity of your question, i love it! i'll take note of your suggestion for a future video! ooh your interests sound super interesting! sometimes there really isnt one specific answer so i understand it can get confusing :/ if you have such a specific interest, sometimes working backwards (like starting off from the specific job title and description you see yourself doing) and broadening to the schooling and education needed for such a job could be a strategy! best of luck!
