Coaches communicating with their athletes from the shore, as the race unfolds? Really? Always thought they were watching but communication was forbidden.
You make a fair point James. The coaches are allowed to yell from the shore but they're not allowed to use any electrical device to communicate with the athletes.
Here is the US Rowing rule on "outside assistance". (a) No Crew shall receive any outside assistance, coaching, or advice during a Race. Nothing in this rule shall preclude communication to Crews from shore using the unaided voice.
Trust me, you couldn’t hear them anyway. You are totally on the zone, plus so many bikes got just 6 or 8 boats? You would never be able to hear your coach.
