I used one while playing aboard a cruise ship in the Hawaiian Islands. It actually had enough acoustic volume to play while strolling through the dinning room, from table to table, performing for the guests, with a guitarist. I improved its sound by using Thomastick flats and replacing the bridge saddle with a ‘Martin’ compensating saddle, which improved the intonation dramatically. I made a lot of money with that bass.. After a few contracts, I jumped ship while in Kauai, and moved here. Eighteen years later, I’m still on island, playing with a latin band and working as a jungle tour guide.. Living the dream….
Well, you are a very fortunate human being and musician! Doing what you enjoy for a living, in a beautiful environment and living the dream. I really hope that that dream lasts for the longest time. There's not much that I can say except for, congratulations! Not a lot of people can say what you said.
I love that sound. And mic'ed (unplugged) tone beats plugged every time. Idk why more acoustic bass players don't build themselves a decent mic rig for recording and live playing.
Because there is no such thing for “live playing” lol. Unless you’re Peter Paul and Mary with no drummer/percussionist and no other stage noise. Even trying to amplify an acoustic guitar that way live is an exercise in frustration compared to something that will isolate the instrument.
Thanks for the video. I was simply looking to hear a fretless acoustic bass played a) not plugged in (not using an electric out, just mic'ed) and b) not picked or played down at the bridge. You'd be surprised how rare that was. So yeah... thanks!
Excellent. You are among the very few that I have seen play an acoustic bass guitar like a bass, and not some tiddly, plucked folk guitar thing in the upper register. I'm more than a little late to this party but we'll done, sir.
hey, well done. I am so jealous of you that you can own one. I had tried that bass today and it was just so wonderful, but I don't have enough money to get one...
+Renato Marcianò Oh, true? haha, perhaps you had it before :D I am a taiwanese and it sold about 1034us dollar here... it's quite a big number to a student like me...
