Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time RU-vidr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. That's what I figured. Knowing very little but just enough, maybe a clip or two got dragged into the wrong order. Heh. Didn't matter to the testing. Those e.l.f. balms were such a disappointment and unexpected, with all their hits lately. Who thought this product was primed for launch.... 😳

Foundation matching is the bane of my existence I just recently bought blue mixing pigment to fix a bunch of my products because it's really hard to find cool tones, they make everything orange!

I have to agree with Jen that a lot of shades called "cool" seem to be leaning peach recently. Idk, maybe it's a trend that will have to run its course.

I read a statistic and not sure if it's true but 70% of skin tones are yellowish. So those are the warm leaning shades. Cool tones used to mean more pink but unfortunately in my experience they're more orange these days. Unfortunately when we need more coverage the natural skin tone doesn't show through if a product has a lot of pigment. Skin tints don't work for me so I'm constantly using foundation mixers and it's annoying.

I am thankful for LA Girl mixing pigments. I have pale skin and trying anything but the lightest colors I get yellow or peach! I don't for a minute feel annoyed about doctoring my foundation. I am the minority, I adjust.

Do you think that would work for tinted moisturizers too? I’m going to give it a try. I just bought two different colors from Lancôme but they turn orange on me. And I got the two lightest shades of tinted moisturizer.

Not that I personally care, but Jen has done the brush colab with Doll 10 and she raved about the Doll 10 lip products the most, sooooo....that's a tough one to know if that specific review was affected at all.

It is demographics and companies not looking after life long customers. Look for a British line like Rimmel, YSL etc. Everything is too orange for me too and I am in Canada. All the fair to light tones get bought up too quickly. You cannot go by the names also...I have always been light, now sometimes I am fair or porcelain which I am not!!

Hi Jen! Not sure if you know this but…When you were testing the Elf lippies the screen went black during the Pinky color. Maybe it’s on my end (No big deal to me since they were awful anyway😂), but just thought I’d mention it. Thanks for sharing the good, the bad & the ugly. I appreciate your time and expense doing all these reviews. I have the Elf lip stick and a couple of NYX. I think they both work well. I didn’t have the problem with the elf settling in my lip lines or patchy.

Those eyeshadow sticks are super cool! So great for travel. Also for people who do the halo eye with glitter in the center on top and then mimic it in the center on the bottom lash line that size of glitter would work well. I saw Alex Anele do a look like that today and I think this applicator would be great for that. Even for beginners of that who have never put glitter on the bottom lash-like me 😂

Totally agree about the peachy “cool” undertones. Apparently on top of that I’m some kind of unicorn having medium/medium tan skin with cool undertones. We don’t exist to most brands. I can find fair and light shades that supposedly cater to cool undertones. But they don’t even pretend to offer cool undertone foundations for darker skin tones. I’m so special and unique! 🙄🤣

L.A. Girl actually makes a larger pro mixing pigment in blue, orange, white, and black for shade modifications! Check your CVS. It's usually close to the bottom of the display.

I understand your preference of a less deep lip, but that dark cherry one was so pretty! It’s a no for me too on the ELF lippies. My lips are always dry and chapped so I’m sure I’d have the same issue as you did. The Doll 10 ones looked really pretty though and I love the colors.

Good review , and me being fair skin, definitely wouldn't like a foundation looking more warm or too dark. And not a glitter fan, I don't mind a shimmer ...you actually look good in a darker color lip product!💗? ...but I understand, The Rose was real pretty color ... happy Valentine's Day. Jen have you ever tried the be perfect foundation? It is full coverage, but I am soon to be 63 and have very dark circles around my eyes and it definitely covers them, better than any concealer I've ever used. Also another product I love is the wet & wild blush stick, that is my go to when I don't have much time to get ready, it's quick, easy, looks great and lasts pretty long.

That. La Girl blue mixer really saved the foundation. Will it work well with yellow toned foundations too. I have a couple foundation formulas that I love, but color ,not so much.

The eyeshadow stick with powder on the other end has existed for a while. I think there used to be a covergirl/max factor product like that in the late 90s early 2000s. Currently clinique just released something similar on the ulta website about a week ago.

You are so right about the cool foundation shades lately being peach instead of pink. I cannot find my shade in any of the new formulas. Really bummed that I can’t try the foundations that most people are really raving about, like Haus labs.

Use the la colors pigment to adjust shades.. they are affordable and they do not change the formula at all... RU-vid can help you with mixing skills.. it's really simple and easy... Anyone can do it... It is the best decision ever to add these to my collection..

Loved the Kaja eyeshadow sticks! Loved the Doll 10 lippies! Shame about the elf ones. I know the weather is horrid outside but I love yr view of the snow from yr window. I was born & raised in Philadelphia,PA so I miss those beautiful scenes of the snow on the trees outside. I don’t miss shoveling or driving in it. I loved growing up up North! Especially going sledding & making snowmen & having so much in the snow! I’m sure yr son loves it! I loved having snow days off from school lol 😂. Now, I live in Sunny FL. What a difference. But, I do miss the change of seasons. Our 2 daughters born & raised in FL. So they only know about “Hurricane days.” It’s a different way of growing up. Ty for always sharing the makeup & swatches. Ur such a delight to watch! I’m so excited to try the new City Beauty Multi-Purpose Sculpting Cream! Ty for letting us know. I REALLY love the new af foundation!!!!! The shade range is incredible. I do have a peach undertone so the “cool” undertoned shade I got was perfection! The wear time is fantastic and it looks great on my 54 year old skin. It’s ranking right up there with my HG Ulta Complexion Crush foundation. Highly recommend both foundations.

Oh gosh. I'm from CT. I moved to CA due to an autoimmunes so they could be more addressed but I completely miss the snow. My Lyme Disease didn't like it but I loved it 😂. F2 cool is a great match for me-usually I wear the same shades as you. This shade has a tone that’s similar to the Missha bb cream. Really enjoying this foundation, especially the price! Did you notice so many shades are sold out everywhere?

I agree about cool tone foundations. They are so dark. Example N3 and C3 in L’Oréal True Match Super Blendable are crazy different. The cool is deeper and even deeper than the W3. I am quite fair in the winter and neutrals work best, although I think my undertone is more on the pink side.

The eyeshadow sticks look good, I love using eye sticks for a quick, simple eye look. Those Elf lip balm sticks look almost too soft, for an easy application, I hate that goopy string feeling and a bad lip product. The Doll 10 ones look amazing though. In your last video, you showed the Nature Republic lip balms, so I decided to order one to try it. Enjoy the snow, here in NYC we also had a snow day.

The About Face foundation is absolutely amazing! I just bought it yesterday and wearing today with a matte primer and it looks incredible. Very long wearing and natural but not glowy or dewy. It’s $22 and a great value! Cons: The dough foot is terrible and sticks and splashes out when you pull it out and put it back in the bottle. Absolutely shop in store, don’t try to find your shade online. The swatches are not accurate at all, they were just released in store at ULTA. On another note, I’m a cool toned pink gal and I don’t know what is going on with brands making cool shades totally orange. @Jen, while I only like one of their foundations, bare minerals has the best cool shades for pinky people. Rose Inc has nice cool shades too. I hope they all get it together soon with the cool shades!

Be aware that this foundation has Gaultheria procumbens (wintergreen) leaf oil in it which is a type of mint. This can be a very irritating ingredient. It's way down the ingredients list, so there isn't much of it. But if you notice any irritation - redness, tingling, itching, and/or a rash - that may be why. I know I don't react well to mint, or menthol either, so I'll definitely skip this one.

Jen please try the L’Oréal true match Lumi, it’s old school but I just rediscovered it and will never use another foundation ever again! Great for drier skin and I’m 64!

i always have the HARDEST TIME finding foundations that match me, and it’s beyond frustrating!!! i’m interested in the about face but have no idea what shade to get. the kaja eyeshadow sticks look really pretty, but i’m wondering if the shimmers would run out easily. i picked up 2 of the juvia’s place and i reallllly like them, but i do wear a lip liner with them, and i sheer them out. the doll 10 juicy nude shade is pretty. i loveeee the nature republic balms i have from yesstyle. i do want to try the elf and nyx stick balm. the mauve shade looks pretty. 🥰🥰🥰

I had the same experience with the Elf lippies. I was so excited to have a more affordable option in that type of product, but this one is definitely not it. Enjoy the snow - it missed us up here in NH at the last minute so we were spared....this time. LOL

We're on the east coast also but much farther down in New York State Fingerlakes region. You guys have so much more snow! I think we lucked out for once 😅 Usually we get a few blizzards, loose power etc but this year it's been really mild and hardly no snow all season which is rare. Btw,I bought the wet and wild stick primer and love it!

Thanks for the video, Jen! OK, I'm going to make 2 separate comments on this video. So first: Re powder or no powder when testing foundation: I think you have a good solution here with putting it on 1 side only and seeing how the product works with or without it. I have really dry skin, so I generally don't use powder all over my face on cooler weather. I need a product that will work well without it, but, that isn't true for everyone. Also re a previous discussion about exfoliation being needed for proper foundation testing: IMHO, a foundation should work well without a lot of elaborate prep being necessary beyond using moisturizer and/or primer on clean skin, and of course, sunscreen, under it. Other people do seem to have other preferences...I want a product I don't have to mess with a lot. Also, foundations can have very different formulas, and they just aren't going to work on all skin types. I remember having oily skin before I took Accutane. I didn't wear makeup because my dermatologist told me not to, but I suspect it would have been very difficult to find a formula that would have worn well. (This was long before products like Revlon Color Stay came out.) I now have very dry skin, and I've tried a number of products that just don't wear well on me, no matter how much moisturizer I used.

Hey, Jen! Thanks for the thorough reviews. I’ve been having the same issue with brands and their new cooler toned foundations lately too! I do not get the peachy vibe! The last three new foundations I tried, I ended up having to return. But one of them, I really liked the formula, so I ended up selecting a neutral undertone option to get it to work. Not a perfect solution, but works better than Oompa Loompa orange since it’s a foundation formula that I really like. These brands need to go back to their color theory classes. 🤦‍♀️

Kiko Milano also has the dual ended eye shadows with a shimmery powder. They’re on sale right now bc they were part of their holiday collection. Holiday Première Daring Duo Eyeshadow €10.49. Idk how much in $ but probably around $11 plus tax.

In makeup/skin undertones, peach = neutral. Pink/red (ie rosy) is cool and yellow/golden is warm. I think Kryolan has a page with this info!

Hi Jen, we are very close in skin tone and I ordered the Light with cool undertone, shade name is L1. And its perfect! It wore all day and looked nice on me. I have normal to slightly dry skin. Just wanted to let you know in case you are gonna reorder or go to store. 😊 they had it at my Ulta.

I got the about face foundation as well and I too got the wrong shade. I got LM1 neutral. I think I need L1 neutral. But I do absolutely LOVE the foundation.

Just wanted to say that I agree with you regarding the peachy toned foundations. Peach and peachy pink are warm toned colors. I’m neutral and the peach leaning neutrals aren’t great on my skin. Hope this “warming trend” in foundations ends quickly.

Have you ever tried the Dermelect Smooth Lip Volumizer? It is so lovely and nourishing and stays on your lips for quite a while. Sometimes I use it during the day when I feel my lips are extra dry and I think they immediately look and feel better. There is a slight tingle that only lasts a few seconds but is definitely not bothersome at all. It’s lasted me a long time and I just bought another one so I have one when I run out of this first tube.
