The basketball players wouldn't fit in those tiny beds. The gymnastics team got mattress toppers to make them hopefully less uncomfortable. They also have portable air conditioners in their rooms. Most of the athletes are treated like props to fill up the Olympic tv spectacle instead of as human beings performing exhausting and difficult sports that need privacy, quiet, appropriate heating and cooling and a comfortable bed for restorative sleep. It's kind of shocking how badly they treat the athletes without whom there would be no Olympics.
@vincesiy1403
@vincesiy1403 Месяц назад
Huge Agree. Instead of trying to treat their guests the best they can. The French basically focused on trying to push their ideology and political messaging. I am all for green technology and minimizing pollutions etc. But not like these. And with most rich countries deciding to either move some of their athletes to hotels or buying dozens of portable ACs for their rooms, the olympic village designs basically failed in its supposed intended purpose and message. Countries with lesser budgets are now at a disadvantage because they will have to suffer the uncomfortable accommodations unlike the rich countries' athletes.

An Australian tourist was raped in Paris a few days ago amidst tight security. Athletes are served half cooked meat and at times meals are scarce. The accommodation is not as needed. The list goes on. And yet not a single major French news channel has this covered. Not even one. However, if the Olympics were happening in India or in some "third world" country, they'd have it printed in kindergarten textbooks by now. Such hypocrisy! I understand that managing such a huge event is not a child's play and therefore things are bound to go wrong. And they did go wrong. So at least now stop labelling other countries as crap when such things happen there as well! If it can happen in "well developed France", it can happen anywhere else as well. If your news channels & newspapers carefully ignore them, you have no right to make a mountain of a molehill when they occur in other countries.

@@ComtedeMonteC "Buses is Paris are air conditioned" Not the one that's moving the Olympians around. The living quarters for the Olympians are not sufficiently air conditioned, either. San Francisco has roughly the same climate as Paris did in past (Paris is warming), but all public spaces, including the EXTENSIVE, WORLD CLASS network of public transit buses and trains, are still air conditioned to 20 C. Down here in San Jose, it gets much hotter than San Francisco or Paris: we have several weeks each summer where the temperature is 40 C the entire week. You bet that most down here in Silicon Valley have an AC unit, and of course all public spaces have AC. Seattle, Washington, is on the same latitude as Paris. In the past only 30% of people had an AC unit in Seattle. Now it's 55%, because the world is getting hotter and people in Seattle are mammals, not lizards, so they need the temperature outside their bodies to be lower than that inside their bodies. The French and the Europeans in general are stupid about AC. California agrees with the EU on pretty much everything. We agree that pollution is an issue. That's why we built out a massive network of solar power, hydroelectric dams, and we still have one nuclear reactor. At this very moment, California is about 80% solar power. We also have the largest energy storage system in the world, 10.3 GWh. So we can output the same power as a nuclear reactor, for about five hours (the system is charged by renewable energy). So we have no hesitation in running AC. Our grid is clean. France's grid is also clean -- 80% nuclear and 15% hydroelectric -- so why not run AC?

Finally someone saying that this is not only happening in Paris, cardboard beds and athletes staying outside of their village is not a new thing, but looking at some comments, people seem to think France is just doing it wrong, it's almost a trend on social media to critize it now. While the reality is, the atmosphere in Paris atm is super chill and joyful, you can feel people's excitement about the city and the game! Happy to got the chance to be there and experience it outside of internet ♥️

The big thing for me is that olimpics make billions of dollars but the athletes without whom it wouldn’t be possible get zero money zero. Some live in poverty to compete it’s the largest display of inequality on earth. And now biggest display of perversion on top of that. Olimpics is dead.

this story is tired. We basically have high-level, high-pay athletes that never stay in the villages cause they are stars and somehow it is turned into a story of athletes walking out. Some athletes said the beds were uncomfortable, while others said they were okay. some delegations bought mattress toppers. There were food supply issues as well. But no people aren't walking out of the village, some athletes just happen to be travelling stars who are used to hotels and don't want to be in dorms

For the catering of the Olympic Village, there was an overdemand for meat and eggs on the first day, there was a readjustment the next day to meet the demand of the athletes. The same goes for transport, drivers have been added, etc. There is the testimony of athletes who said that the problems were solved and that everything was fine for the food and that the quantities were sufficient. There were also cooling pipes under the floors, roller shutters and fans.
