Some strokers struggle on House Pattern

If you are a stroker, this energy loss problem is the biggest concern you are having daily on a house pattern.
Here our discussion is on the lane where outer part is drier causing quicker transition.
Some of us may not create the rev rate we dreamed of, but that is not what kills your score.
There are a lot more about a rolled-out shot...

Ok, I take exception with this video for a few reasons. 1. This bowler is not playing down and in. He is throwing the ball left to right. That is not down and in, it is inside out. 2. He is sliding on 23, no down and in bowler slides that far inside. 3. His ball is crossing 12 at the arrows. That is not down and in territory. 4. He is using a fairly strong resin ball that would burn up if he played down and in, which he is not. I am a down and in bowler, a Classic 1960's Full Roller. I throw the ball right to left. That is down and in. I slide around 8 or 9 board. This give me angle on the pocket. My ball crosses the arrows around 6 or 7 board. I use balls that work well in drier conditions with higher grits and weaker layouts so they do not lose energy playing in the outside part of the lane. Playing down and in is not a disadvantage, how do you think Earl and Walter won all their titles?

Thank you for your comment!! Can’t agree more that those shots in video are far from down-in and merely demonstrating the condition in the 5 boards area, where most strokers struggle in leagues especially on high ratio house pattern. Despite of lower rev, skidding in oil is just the easiest way to produce powerful strikes for most professional strokers. Many legendary stroker champions on our list did succeed by full comprehension of oil patterns, say, playing inner lines from oil to dry for amazing strikes on sport pattern. Changing to a particular ball sometimes refer to a struggling day. Hope you understand what I mean. Good bowling!! ;)

Sometimes not getting splits has to take priority over leaving a one pin makeable spare.

It is sometimes hard to read the white text on the lane. Black text may be better. And maybe have text stay on screen longer. Thanks for the informative lesson.

Watch video in normal speed. After video under settings slow video down to 50% speed and enjoy the slower reading of the text as well as watching video a little slower. Easier to watch hand positions as well Enjoy@

He's fixed the issue with newer videos by using a black drop shadow. Great job @JanProShopChannel

Great vid showing what a stroker might have to deal with on a house shot, but precious little advice on what to do about it. At the very end of the vid, you display that the bowler should move left and then "good bye"?! How about a part 2 showing what the bowler actually needs to do to solve the problem?

One solution is to move inside where the oil is and slow your ball speed. Another possible solution - get a ball drilled with a pin down layout that is designed to hook later down lane.

Excellent point! I have an RST X-1 drilled pin down and it's my best league ball. 25-28 left foot, targeting around 2nd arrow.

I experience this every time I bowl, but as a stroker, I don't have the rev rate to move left. What is the solution? A weaker, more pearl ball with a high diff?
@FearTheWeird300
@FearTheWeird300 9 месяцев назад
Slower speed and move left or loft. Pearl balls are a lot less likely to burn up.

Same here. 200 rev rate at 16-17 mph, so I try to bowl in the drier portion to the right, but it transitions after like 10-15 rolls. What I do is move one board at a time, and use a very aggressive asymmetric ball. Exotic Gem, Absolute, or Black widow 2.0 Hybrid. This allows my hook to still cover 10 or more boards even with a low rev rate.

@@StephRenee812 you are extremely talented and observative… the original purpose of this video was right leg, yet I countered a burnt lane which is better for energy loss. Surely I will take another one to talk about it.

Move left and throw it through the oil to the dry rather than being up against the dry from the point of release.

Sorry but none of these shots were down and in. I can get in depth but I'm sure one or more people who bowl multiple times a week in leagues and tournaments have already pointed this out. What you are actually demonstrating is where down and in bowlers need to move to once the lane breaks down. At that point, it is no longer a down and in shot. A true down and in which is not shown here, is just as capable of not loosing power once it gets to the head pin as a high rev bowler. I play down and in because it leaves less splits when missed (for me at least) than when you go board to board. When you miss that shot, you leave a lot of ugly splits to try and pick up.

These shots are not "down and in". Just a tight launch angle. "Down and in" means that the lay down point is the same as the break point.

I’m sorry you put out great videos , but you are throwing the wrong layout and wrong hamd position for up and in . Your still trying to crank it , drill a ball for that shot and stay behind it , And tell Walter Ray , Norm Duke and Lovoie that their balls loose energy Just saying

First of all, you've probably never seen Walter Ray, Norm, and Francois bowl on a house shot, which, if you read the description, is the focus of this video. Second, and probably most important, his layout is his layout and his hand position is his hand position. The shots he threw were to _demonstrate_ the reaction. If you had watched any of his other videos, you likely could have figured that out. With that being said, I'd be very interested to see any of your bowling videos demonstrating how down-and-in strokers can succeed on a house shot.
@park-n-sonsarchery9570
@park-n-sonsarchery9570 9 месяцев назад
@@NeilTruick I don’t disagree with you on what he was trying to demonstrate, however most people with his rev rate and talent don’t throw up and in . And yes you can drill a ball with a layout for up and in bowlers so that the ball won’t lose energy . I’m not a pro , by no means , and I love his videos , if he is only speaking to folks with a high rev rate then I totally agree with you , if he is speaking to all bowlers then that’s where I differ .

@park-n-sonsarchery9570 is correct on all counts. It's simple constructive criticism. "Down-in" or "up-in" players do not hit the ball with that much hand at the bottom of the swing. They can't. The shot won't work on house. Also, the creator (who we all love obviously) is not far enough right to be considered playing down-in. He's playing in the track. Down-in is typically right of 7 or further and up the gutter. Secondly, he could absolutely get something drilled to keep and store energy through that part of the lane. There are plenty of dry condition balls, weaker cover stocks, and layouts to be able to navigate those conditions. Watch the pros. I think this was just some good constructive criticism for the content creator to do a little more research and development on his next video. Certainly nothing negative was meant by his original comment. Otherwise, keep up the great work and we'll be watching.

@@lastans18Great post! I agree with you, and I'm grateful for the video as it is trying to answer a question that I'm currently trying to answer for myself. I feel that most modern balls make it very difficult to play down and in unless you're a speed dominant player with a low rev rate and forward roll. Most of the reactive and hybrid surfaces are simply too sensitive for dry conditions. And, some of the balls that are advertised for dry conditions clearly have a skid/flip reaction which, IMO, is not the best choice for that shot. I have a urethane ball with a symmetrical core with which I can play straight up first arrow, but there is just enough oil that I have no room for error. I'm going to try some entry level performance balls beginning with the Brunswick Rhino.
