You could put the jam nuts on the bottom with about 1" of allthread protruding for the plate. It would jam against the plate and stop it from rotating and you wouldn't have to hold it with the wrench.
I don't think I could make videos based on the comments I do things different in my own way and I think if someone was rude to me saying I was doing something wrong I would probably be rude back because it's only fair but I commend you Bill for taking the high road about the rude comments! There is always more than one way to do things right or wrong we learn from every mistake we make!
Dry ice from Walmart. Just watch them fit a 30 inch diameter sleeve in a 102 year old steam engine they rebuilt. Huge chest with dry ice left for two days. The crate holding it was right beside the casing. Fork lift lifted the sleeve out of the dry ice and inserted it the casing. Piston drove the rod that turned the drive wheels. Small cooler with dry ice on the sleeve will shrink it.
Did a similar trick with wheel bearing races But I had access to a reefer truck the hauls ice cream. -20 in the box. I put them back there and took my 30 lunch break. Dropped right in the hubs with just little taps to set it home
Hey Bill, just a tip, if you spin a single jam nut down against the plate you are using to pull the sleeves out, it will jam against the plate and stop the rod from spinning. That way you don't have to fight with a 2nd wrench. I know it is a little late now, but if you ever have to do similar in the future.
Thanks Bill. At least the Fabricobbled Sleeve puller worked. Keep the Nut/Rod at the top Lubed up well . I am working on My Bolens to see if I can get it running and moving under It's own power for Our Steam Show at the end of the Month. So far everything looks positive, No broken hardware YET.. Mike M.
Bill in all fairness I could not see the jam nut in the last video, so I was with the others that commented " get rid of the jam nut" but now seeing and hearing you explain why you have it on makes sense now. The WD 40 will help you remove the sleeves, or some other penetrating oil soak the tops of the sleeves good first. You need to get a grade 8 threaded rod to do that work. The regular threaded rod from wherever just isn't what you need it will work as you shown but it will not last. Can you use your tap and die set to clean the threads on the rod? Just a thought Bill. Good luck, hope to see the 800 out and running soon!
Still watching it but had to give you a thumbs up cause all your vids are info packed. I want to get a for N tractor one of these days for sure! Howdy from NC!
Bill you need to ignore the haters they do nothing but tick you off if someone dost like how you do something reply why you did it that way and don’t take it as them being rude
You should be used to the internet trolls by now messing with you. Just keep on keeping on. I am behind on videos due to YT unsubbing me from your channel so I don't know why you are rebuilding this engine. I will catch up in time
I am not going to say a thing about you measuring the wrong end of the piston set.i missed the fact that you had it upside down myself.that tool will work but you should have bought rented the on proper tool.
