50 bucks is super fair for that diagnosis. And the way so many people are hurting for money these days, it makes me happy that Matt keeps his prices reasonable. It's easy to say he should charge more but alot of people don't have that additional money to pay. Great video.
@@jaqthedragon6657 my shop is a licensed shop in California we offer mobile services we charge $80 for the basic diagnostic visual inspection scan tool and we are 160 for a complete inspection and diagnosis which is pin of wires and actually taking things apart and putting things back together and our diagnostic fee comes out of the repair as well. Most of the time is definitely fair a lot of people in my area charger, minimum of 120+.
Just get a 12v transformer, and than hook it up to the coil terminals. Multimeter to the NO/NC contacts and you'll know everything you need to about a relay (coming from a sparky)...
Matthew your living right! God is always looking for a good man, to follow his footsteps! I use a Star computer for all my Mercedes Benz troubleshooting! Many technicians do not know how to troubleshoot. Thru use of proper tools, experience and know how. Just about anything on this planet can be diagnosed! Keep being the man you are! Keep helping stranded folks. I have helped many on the freeway with no decent spare, no jack, no jack handle! Amazing how some young people are not prepared while traveling! May God bless you! Anytime your in Houston Texas. Let me know I will take you out to eat some Texas barbecue!
I like to do mechanics myself and i have people ask me for help many times. Some pay a small donation for a beer and some dont pay at all. But having a mech come and do diagnosis and all that you did for them, 50 bucks are really fair and they would be stupid to not ask you to change it.
Think you should move to the UK and be my neighbour we need people like you , honest and pleasant and a good mechanic it's a pleasure watching you work .👍
I really hope he has something soooo nice happen to him (Parker) bc he just seems so humble and just a genuine nice person. Absolutely love that. Keep grinding brother. ❤
For a modern computerized headache vehicle 40 was very fair for troubleshooting. That equipment makes it very quick and convenient for both you and the customer. Great jobs on both ends here! 👍
@@Wheemer Not saying he overcharged at all 40 is what I would've charged if I had that type of equipment and was mobile. 50 is still very reasonable especially when most shops in my area charge a few hundred to troubleshoot. I generally don't charge much for troubleshooting if at all if someone brings the car to me- Free if you are going to get the parts for me to fix it since you'll be paying me for the labor, 20 if it's simple and you just want to know what's wrong but don't want it fixed, it can go to 40 if I have to jack up the car and crawl all around but you don't want it fixed. If it's local and I go to them 40 is fine. I've only charged over what I normally would due to a person who did me very wrong beforehand (we are talking bad relationship, bill money, all sorts of stuff) wanting me to troubleshoot their car and they were a ways out. This was like 4 years ago. No other shop around here would do it for under 250 dollars. After asking them why in the world should I consider looking at their car after they screwed me over and they told me because they were sorry, I actually knew what I was doing, and I'm that they should've listened to me in the past. I quoted them 95 dollars accounting for a normal charge, time, mileage, and a P.I.T.A fee for the situation. I figured it would've chased them off but they agreed. So I showed up and found out exactly what was wrong in less than 5 minutes, showed them how I troubleshooted it and how I was able to find it, and even gave them part numbers and told them a shortcut on how to get to it quickly and how to fix it for less than 10 dollars in parts and cleaner. (it was a leaking water pipe oring on a 2000 Civic). He thanked me and sent the money directly to my Paypal with his phone. After that he never fixed it and it sat in his apartment parkinglot then when he went to move out of the state with his girlfriend he bought a new car and then called me and asked me if I wanted the car and felt that it would be the right thing to do settle the things he did in the past. I got the car and the title in my name and then fixed it myself. He didn't want to tell me but apparently he had a "friend" try and fix it and they straight up stripped the thermostat housing bolt thread in the engine block with an impact among some other things. I was able to fix it for myself easily by retapping it and installing a stud and nut before replacing the Orings that were the original problem. Alot of patience, honesty, and tolerance goes a long way and it resulted in me receiving a car. I also feel like every job requires it's own special attention as well.
Damn bro u so smart. I had this same issue on my elantra a couple years back. Car would crank and not start. They replaced the battery, alternator, solenoid valves. And nothing worked $1000 bucks later. Funny thing is I told them it could be a fuel issue way before. I went to another mechanic and told him it could be a fuel issue and they quoted me $800 to change the fuel pump. I said ok then it fixed the issue.
Just want to say thank you for posting these, since finding your channel I’ve taken an interest in maintaining my vehicles better! I always just did whatever needed done instead of preventative maintenance. Thank you!
The root cause of that is a broken ground wire on front of bellhousing. like 5 wires go to that eyelet. You pull on it and if it rips out its bad. The proper fix is to cut the terminal off and put new one on. You moved the wires and its making connection. Its gonna come back. You never should have to add any wires.
I'm disappointed, his scan tool could have easily commanded the fuel pump on and and he could have easily accessed the fuel pump for a correct diagnosis.
@@Tat2Dragons but he failed to check at the pump connection with a load. He could have a bad connection or bad wiring and unnecessarily replaced a good pump.
you are so patient, i hated people telling me how to do my job when i was a decorator. i know it's a totally different trade. but if they left you be you would able to diagnose allot quicker, rather than telling you it might be this, might be that your the expert not a DIYr
Matt I wish I had someone as good as you are with cars. Stealerships suck. I’m having shifting issues with my trans. The dealer says I need a $2000 computer and $500 to “flash” it. I just said screw it and am driving like nothing is wrong
I don’t practice Santeria I ain’t got no crystal ball Well, I had a million dollars But, I spent it allll Keep up the awesome vids, Matt! Before you know it, you’ll have a million followers.
dont get me wrong. 43 years doing this. and ive done it myself. 50 bucks. while commendable think about the cost of those scanners etc. its bit me in the ass. still i could have made alot more money and actually paid for the tools. i am not knocking ya man in the least. at 56 its time to turn the reins over to the young-uns!!! just be safe man!!!
Take the fuel cap off put your ear to the opening and listen for the pump while someone keys it on. No sound, then take a hammer to the tank and jar the pump that is stuck between the teeth of the electric motor. NOTE : ALL ELECTRIC MOTORS GETS STUCK EVERY NOW AND THEN.
I see some people saying 50$ is alot. If you're not a parts changer and know how to properly diagnosis a car you should be charging 90$ to 120$ a hr. 90% of the time the problem should be found with in the hr. Nowadays cars are advanced and it takes alot of knowledge to Diagnose properly.on the other hand if a customer paid for a proper diag, you have to be positive that's the problem. If by chance your wrong (it happens even to the best) then you have to eat the cost. We get a bad name because there's shops out there that lie
I’d also replace the fuel filter if that one isn’t on the pump itself, some are in line and others are on the bottom of the fuel sending unit in the tank.
Dude where are you from? I have a 95 mustang gt 5.0 with a parasitic draw on my battery and have struggled with finding the source for so long that every time I drive it when I get home I disconnect the ground from my battery just to keep it charged.
@@user-oh5jy7bg4i you realize that ZERO obd codes tell you what part to replace and you have to diagnose the issue right? Or are you just one of those people who think replacing random parts is actually how you fix vehicles?
@@MobiTechMobileMechanic why? Your diagnosis takes time right? It’s still labor so unless you are factoring it back in elsewhere in the job you’re cutting yourself short.
I’ve been doing mechanical work for 3yrs I didn’t think charging for diagnostics was real ima have to start doing that but probably only $20 $50 seems like a lot but to I didn’t even know and everyone is saying it’s fair
$50 is actually cheap considering he’s driving out to you spending money on gas mileage on his truck and most of all his time so yeah $50 is definitely fair
I am thinking about this business but it looks like you deal mainly with low income people and you can't run a profitable business at 50 bucks you just can't
